House of the dragon S2 🤦♀️ ------------------------------------ Rhaenyra - let's not go for this war Alicent - 😛 Alicent - let's not go for this war Rhenera - 😛 ------------------------------------
Let's keep going: HERALD: Aemond's eye was just cut out Rhaenyra: REVENGE! Alicent: MORE REVENGE! -------------------------------------------------------------------- HERALD: Viserys is dead. Aegon has been crowned Rhaenyra: How DARE they! Let's get houses pledged Alicent: Oh I was going to give you a last chance but now it's on! ------------------------------------------------------------------- HERALD: Lucerys has been killed by Aemond Rhaenyra: Bring me the head of Aemond... ah you know what? I was just blowing off steam. It's fine. Alicent: Oh, wait, Rhaenyra's MAD about all that stuff we did? Gee, maybe we went over the line. -------------------------------------------------------------------- HERALD: Some guys just broke in and murdered your grandkids Alicent: Gosh, Rhaenyra must be really hurting to go through such lengths. What? Yes, yes Helena, I'm sure you're having a hard time too... Rhaenyra: Well, this is a bad look. Alicent must really hate me now. How are we ever going to patch THIS up? -------------------------------------------------------------------- HERALD: Battle of Rook's Rest. Castles destroyed, people burning. Queen that never was is dead. Thought you should know. Rhaenyra: Y'know, I think I'm just going to pay Alicent a visit. Just to make sure if she's REALLY sure about this. Because you know this could be just one big misunderstanding. I mean just because I lost that... that kid and his dragon, whatzisname... Alicent: Do you think Rhaenyra would think this shade of green looks good on me? I'm planning a trip to the summer isles to take a break from this silly 'war' thing...
This wasn’t a finale. It was a “set the table” episode for a penultimate jaw-dropping battle episode and a finale where the dust settles and we tie up some loose ends and resolve some conflicts and set up the primary storylines for next season. Except we aren’t getting any of that. Just leaving us hanging for what will probably be a two year wait.
They completely re-wrote her character in S2 to fit more with the writers' visions according to which Rhaenyra and Alicent have romantic feelings for each other that they're both not fully conscious of. That of course is a fundamental shift from the source material and requires many other changes alongside in order to even remotely make sense. However, in S1, the motivations of Alicent mostly aligned with the source material which makes this shift in S2 even less justifiable. It's the usual problem Hollywood has nowadays, where the agenda of the writers takes precedence over the source material. E: Grammar and spelling
@@divusartemis2045 Absolutely, Season 1 Alicent still aligns with her book counterpart and should've doubled down this season, nor suddenly hating her entire family who she has spent decades trying to protect and prepare for inevitable war. The real Alicent would NEVER.
@@divusartemis2045while i agree with your point, my theory is the writer's agenda is to portray the trad housewife archetype on alicent as opposed to the girlboss archetype of rhynaeyra. Alicent's own sons have basically told her to go back to domestic aka kitchen affairs lol Not only did she fail as a mother, she failed as a competent human being almost while all the cards are in favor of rhynaeyra by season end. Whats more left to watch at this point?
It's crazy how they focus on the most uninteresting and boring things like Daemon spending a whole season in Harrenhal or Alicent moping around in the woods for half an episode but then they skip over the interesting stuff pertaining to the war like the Blockade in the Riverlands that they always talk about but haven't even shown once or Aemond setting fire to a whole fishing village but we only see it in a 20 second after math scene. The interesting events are all off screen.
+ all the remaining stuff and battles from books they will either cut or cram all in for two seasons left.. 3 and 4.. kinda dumb not to put it in season 2 some of it right.
They have completely whitewashed Rhaenyra’s more nefarious deeds, tried to make her into a generic “girl boss” but taking away her flaws and agency has made her boring, and managed to turn TB into the good guys and TG into the bad guys like it’s some sort of Marvel series. They shouldn’t even be meeting in the middle of war, it’s ridiculous. I don’t mind them aging Alicent down for the show but it’s literally INSANE that Alicent is betraying her family for a friendship/“love” from 20 years ago. Goes against both the book and S1 characterization They could have shown a kingdom needlessly ripped apart destroying a dynasty over bullshit like not wanting to follow a woman but they made some weird mopey fanfic about two indecisive impulsive women whose petty fight about who was sluttier in their teen years is causing a bloody war
They pussed out hard with this season. End of season one Rhaenyra was about to go to war. Season 2 started and oh wait nevermind she can’t do war cause of collateral damage (one kid), then e4 she can do war again and is ready for it, then nevermind that’s scary we can’t do that lol, oh wait nevermind we have more dragons so let’s kill thousands of innocent people (who care about collateral damage? Not her! 😜), aaaand a convenient offer from Alicent for peace that Rhaenyra will probably stupidly take. That’s not character development it’s flip flopping because you don’t know what to do with her character!
Not to mention Rhaenys could have ended the war in the scene Sarah Hess wrote into the show cause “it would look cool”. “Its not my war to start” because she didnt want blood on her hands…ok well you burst into the ceremony and stepped on a bunch of innocent peasants with your dragon then agreed to fight in the same war you could have ended and torch a bunch of soldiers. Then you saw Aemon attempt to kill the king who you thought was dead and could have used that info to dethrone Aemon as a usurper and end the war again…but cgi dragons are cool so lets fly the biggest dragon in Rhaenyras army into a suicide mission when you could’ve fled. Because…honor? Sarah Hess sucks at writing. And for the love of god just have Sheepstealer eat Rhaena, complete waste of screen time for a weak character.
Fanatics of the show really dare to say Book Rhaenyra and Book Alicent are more boring, but at least they were consistent. Rhaenyra from the moment Aegon is born to the sad end of her life remains steadfast in that she's The Crown Princess/Queen of Westeros. She never abandons her claim, she never bends to her brother, she never runs away from power. She wants it. In the show, Rhaenyra was willing to give up her crown in order to save the realm 🤡. And later on, she GENUINELY believed Alicent that Viserys had changed his mind about the succession, even though Alicent is a liar who hates her, contributed to the murder of her son and there were no other witnesses. Book Rhaenyra would have NEVER been like "Oh yeah, because you swore it on your mother's memory that he changed his mind, even though there were no other witnesses present and even though it stands in your best interest to crown Aegon, I will believe you and abandon my claim 🥺". As a matter of fact, Book Rhaenyra would've had Otto incarcerated to be used as a hostage against the other Greens if he had visited her in Dragonstone as he does in the show. Alicent in the books at least remains a Green from the moment Viserys refuses to make Aegon his heir till she goes mad. She's not a victim that throws out stones and later cries for forgiveness after the damage is done. She owns her ambition. She had real POWER, real choices. They made her a plot device. Anytime people say Show Alicent is better than the outline in the book, I want to retch.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-ΔI don’t mind them aging down Alicent so she’s not the evil stepmother from the books and they are besties instead. But FFS I want to see the Alicent from S1 who pushed Aegon onto the thrown not this weird mopey fanfic of her switching teams because she wants to run away with Rhaenyra and go get margaritas in Essos together. The war is in full swing and they have both lost family members, they should both be bloodthirsty royals by this point.
No wonder George is pissed at this show. STOP CHANGING STUFF. I get it, some stuff has to be changed. But if they really killed sunfyre.....that would be a really really huge and bad decision.
George can eat a bag of monkey phalluses. He keeps selling out to HBO and allowing them to milk his creation instead of finishing his books so he has no right to complain anymore.
At this point I doubt we see rhaenyra get eaten by a dragon. The changes to blood and cheese and nettles have already completely changed character motivations and will have to change the ending
@@Trazynn yeah but afterwards he criticized the writers indirectly through his blog. 1) there were unwanted changes made in the show. he said that when adapting a book, screenwriters have a bad habit of changing some plot in order to make the story "theirs". He says that although many changes are often made to the story 99 percent of times such writers never succeed in making the story better 2) In the books Sheepstealer lived in Dragonstone. But in the show that dragon is shown to be in Vale searching for food. George said that dragons are not nomadic. Unless their riders make them, dragons don't usually cross large mountains and plains. he explicitly stated that "You won’t find dragons hunting the riverlands or the Reach or the Vale, or roaming the northlands or the mountains of Dorne"
It’s George’s fault for letting the writers have too much creative control in the contract Same reason he has the blame to the downfall of game of thrones Dumb and dumber had horrible resumes before GOT yet George was okay with letting them take control
The second half of the season just seemed like set up with no pay off. The only episode where anything significant happened was episode 4. I normally don’t complain about lack of action in a show, but I do think it’s perfectly appropriate to have some in the season finale. It honestly felt like the second to last episode. There should have been at least one battle. People talk about Game of Thrones being slow in the beginning, but every season delivered climatic moments at the end. It seems like they’re trying to draw it out because the source material is so thin. I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t have to possibly wait another two years.
The biggest budget of the season clearly went to episode 4, this is probably they dragged out everything else this season! It was a waste of a finale! We waited 2 years to see the conflict at hand we got absolutely nothing in the end!
the weird thing is that they confirmed there would only be 4 seasons and season 3 would likely only have 8 episodes, so they're not really trying to stretch it out
It is the fault of whoever thought women cannot be ambitious. Rhaenyra can't want power for power's sake, she has to desire it because of The Prophecy and duty. Alicent can't want power because she did her duty and it is now time to enjoy her position as Queen Mother, she has to want it because everyone trapped her into it, as if she were still a child. Rhaenys can't feel salty about the Great Council of 101, having mixed feelings towards Viserys. She has to be the voice of reason and forget all who wronged her.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δvery well said, in taking the ambition out of the women who are big parts of the dance they’re straying away from what makes the Asoiaf universe the Asoiaf universe. GOT may not have ended well but they depicted Cersei pretty well early on imo and should’ve taken inspiration from that character for people like Alicent in this show.
@@seezu84they bait u with the first 1 or 2 seasons. The last seasons are always trash. Dont know why people keep doing this to themselves. Everybody should be in revolt stage and not watching anything after what they did to GoT.

And his whole visions about very long and very dark night with white walker for Arya… They really expecting from audience being excited for this after disaster season 8?
Daemon bowing to Rhaenyra felt completely weak. He doesn't do it because of love or sacrifice or appreciation of her, he does because a literal dream had to motivate him into it. It is still selfish and Daemon hasn't changed or learned anything. Utterly weak moment.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ ofc he doesn't do it out of love, the dream is the most important part out of all the episodes so far. he does it bc of aegon's dream, bc of the prophecy which is what the whole universe is abt. it literally doesn't matter that he doesn't do it out of love bc the dream is so much more important and ties game of thrones and hotd together and shows daenerys' importance in the story. it is not a weak moment, it is a moment of epiphany and revelation. just bc you don't understand something, doesn't mean it's bad.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ All they should've done is remove the dream from the script. It would have made more sense if Daemon overtook the castle *for* Rhaenyra, but he had to pretend it was for himself because the armies would not bend the knee to a woman. Then, once it was all set and done, and all of them sworn to serve him, he would bend the knee to Rhaenyra in front of all of them, effectively making everybody Rhaenyra's vassals.
PhilosophyTube was an absolutely terrible casting choice. If you had to cast a trans person for whatever reason, surely you could have found someone who is actually a good actor/actress.
@@MsSovereign1214 Nah, you think most people came to realize how bad season 8 was on their own? Lol so many sheep just change their opinions based on groupthink, and now that they're back (not all but enough) on HotD, they're coping so hard against the criticism.
As a fanboy, I can understand that this season might not have delivered the best and that it some parts could've been cut out in favor of some parts they didn't show (bonding of Jace and Kregan), but I liked it for what it was and I guess I just like watching people in cool armor deliver interesting dialoge. And if it's set in Martin's world, that's even better. So yeah, I hope next season is better for all our sakes so that both us fanboys and you regular people can enjoy.
@@stefankrunic8188 Yeah, I enjoyed it. Every episode. But it was a poorly paced season that did miss the mark. First season was weirdly paced with it's time jumps, but wouldn't call it poor pacing. It still told a full and complete story. This season was weird. Definitely retread some ground already tred. Really stretched the story and then cut the tail off. I enjoyed it still though. I didn't enjoy GOT Season 7 or 8. I'd akin it to season 5 GOT.
If only Jace just said " I'm not POUTING, I'm Mewing" I'd be willing to look past the disappointment that was the second half of season 2. "I jest" 😂 I absolutely loved fire and blood , the source material is RIGHT THERE and we know what happens when the show runners start making changes. The blueprint to the Dance is in their hands and they still manage to fumble it. Episode 6 and 7 should've been one episode and we should have been able to see what the season has been leading up to. They weren't bad but they wasted valuable time that should've went to an actual finale of a show we've waited 2 years to return. 😪
Alicent betraying her family for Rhaenyra? The woman that wanted Aemond tortured right after he lost an eye, starved a city, and husband decapitated her grandson? Helaena forgetting Daemon kiled her son? Blacks now fight to save the world? No it was a fanfic...
Better to wait until season 3 & 4 are out then binge watch the whole thing. Watching this disaster of a season with only 1 real episode play out over 8 weeks is a massive waste of time energy and money
@@2424rocket The Boys is so goddamn boring and stupid with them doing the exact same thing for like 4 seasons now that I stopped watching. Every minute of HOTD was more interesting than the ridiculous personal bullshit drama of Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko and most of the others.
People will just say ‘it’s character development’ but who developed? Daemon was forced to face his demons but ended up defecting for the white walkers, not his own guilt. Rhaenyra was mad about being impotent while waiting 6 episodes to do anything ABOUT this. Alicent felt powerless and alone, and made no effort to change her station like she did in season 1. Corlys and Addam played the same daddy issues scene on the docks all season. Aegon and Jace seemed to be the only ones actually taking actions to change their situations (flying to rooks rest and the twins respectively), and we got less and less time with them as the season went on.
Aegon had very good character development this season because the actor is amazing and the writers seem determined to embarrass his character while showing Rhaenyra to be a perfect girlboss which ends up being so boring in comparison
@@Casboof Idk I feel like Rhaenyra is constantly shown to hesitate and make wrong decisions. It's definitely less on the nose than in Aegon's case, but I do think they show her weaknesses quite well.
Also Rhaenyra. In season she’s spicier doesn’t care so much about duty and acts more pissed when people try to take her throne. In season 2 she complains a lot and does nothing. She doesn’t want to murder innocents but also doesn’t want to give up her throne. Like ladies please just do something 😪
For me this episode started of well enough and I was thinking hmm OK if you where the 8th episode of a full 10 episode season this would be decent set up, but this is the final episode of the season so what are you gonna do, and then it started getting stupid for 5 reasons for me 1. Just everything to do with alicent and rhaenyra and the constant sneaking in and out of each other main base and how much they are butchering thier character arcs and what they are meant to be 2. I found the show started rushing itself in terms of getting all the armies into place instead of spending a couple episodes more getting everything together 3. Rheana actress is constantly annoying me with her face in constant worry and I hate how they are completely cutting nettles out for her to claim one of the coolest dragons 4. I was enjoying deamon having a spiritual journey unpacking his family trauma even is it could have been done a bit better but for it to turn around and be about white walkers was stupid 5. And finally they've completely wasted otto this season, wtf has he been doing since we left and why is he in a cage? This is ridiculous
Also 6. Daemon gets the woke treatment similar to Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones(old, sitting around, apparently wants to bag his mom), submits and kneels to strong female protagonist 7.Lesbian Sisterhood on dragonstone 8.sh*t rooks rest battle to include a feminist sendoff for female actress 9. man playing a woman playing a man(triarchy pirate chick?dude?thing) 10. blue haired(antifa/BLM/sjw)pirates And more...it's going the boys on us....
i honestly thought i was stupid and forgot about some sort of thing that happened with otto in season one. I kept thinking "soo.. where is otto?" and then i saw him at the cage in the end and thought i MUST have missed something. but no i guess the writers themselves forgot to explain that to us... weird
@@AnthonyRomero-w8u i agree some of the wokeness is hindering the show but you're being kind of extreme and stating things that aren't even true. Seems like you're brainwashed or something, because that pirate chick is literally just a pirate chick.. that's it. Idk where you saw blue haired characters but i won't call you a liar, maybe i just missed it. i don't remember any feminist standoffs. The lesbian kiss thing was definitely terrible, though not because they're lesbians, but because it didn't fit in that scene and it was completely pointless and weird. Like it was literally just there to push an agenda that just makes gay people seem like attention seekers when most aren't, the main actress just is.
What ? You mean you weren't on thr edge of your seat when Rhaenyra and Alicent sighed at each other for 10 minutes? Or the mud wrestling? Or the, errrrr, oh yeah, the boats sailing possibly toward each other. Or the Starks.... marching by the Twins. Looks like the Freys let them pass without forcing the king in the north to marry someone they'd never met. To be honest he can keep his Winds Of Winter because the ending of Game Of Thrones WAS how he intended ASOIAF to conclude and he's snookerd himself .
So you cry about the show becoming like GoT with a lot a fanfic action but no story & charactoer development ... and then bitch about HoTD having no fanfic action and too much character development over 10 minutes? lol.
people talk a lot about the lack of characterization in this show, which i totally agree with, but the lack of relationships, dynamics, in this show is astounding too. one of the most interesting ones is the two female leads, who are obviously separated for most of the show. but every time alicent is in a room with one of her children, i'm asking myself if i'm seriously meant to believe these people know each other. compare it with cersei's relationships to: sansa, tyrion, jaime, joffrey, robert, tywin, ned, etc. sooo rich, so many aspects to one person, such a complex understanding of the rich web of social interactions that create politics
It’s ironic, HBO decides to cut costs by not making the final two episodes, yet the ultimate cost is losing millions of fans, and cheapening the brand. Great show, thank you.
I am still angry, that this wasted my time. I skipt, this ridiculous dialogscene with the two queens out anger and boredom. You just have to remind them what the season finales were like in Game of Thrones. Season 1, Ned Stark is beheaded. Season 2, Battle of Black Water. Season 3, Red Wedding, Season 4 The Wall. So you get the idea.
why did they make alicent go to kings landing to sell out all of her children (except her daughter) and cole and gwayne. Daeron and gwayne are innocent.
@@r.beeeee yeah the show should’ve made alicent mention daeron when she was talking with Rhaenyra. She herself prob forgot bout him bc she barely knows the little dude herself
The original formula that made Game of Thrones so successful initially was making it more like HBOs show ROME and letting Miguel Sapochnik the original showrunner go was their biggest mistake, he was Game of Thrones. They need to get the best people in the industry and not just hire people because of inclusion and diversity. The current directors, producers, cinematographers, and writers have all been mostly subpar. We waited two years it should’ve been much better than this. Let’s pray they get better people. #bringbacksapochnik
HBO gone Woke. That's sad but like did you see that fight in the mud with that crappy trans guy ? How about all the annoying you go girls moments all season ? That stupid forced kiss etc
@@Makta972Oh man, give me a break, the problem isn't that it's wOkE, the problem is the pacing, consistency, and character motivations, in other words, bad writing, the Arcane series has "woke" elements and is pretty good.
The fact that I've seen wannabe intellectuals saying"oh you just have tiktok brain and wanted big dragon battles" As if we didn't all love Season 1 even without any actual dragon fights. It's not about being or not"action packed" it's that nothing of note happened, it was filler
whatever happened to 23 episodes shows they were the good old days now a tv series says nope only 8 episodes that's a joke. the whole series could have been done in two full seasons. another 2 years for season 3 and another 4 years for season 4 its a joke
@@Paa375 I mean that's what Bri'ish TV was like from the 70s to... well, to now. Fawlty Towers was two six-episode series. Mr Bean was a handful of short runs and specials. Black Books was three six-episode seasons. The Office was similar with some specials. Sherlock was just fkin awful and was also a series of tiny runs. Black Mirror was two three-episode seasons before Netflix bought it. One Foot In The Grave - six six-episode seasons with a bunch of Christmas specials idk why this is
I just don't see how this series is gonna work at the moment. The pacing is so unbearably slow, the premise itself just smells so thin, and the lead actor playing Rhaenyra sucks the life out of literally every scene she's in. I dunno what it is but I just can't stand her, the vibe coming out of her is just so.. tame and lifeless all around. Not sure how what the casting department were thinking but there it is. The only selling point it has at the moment is that it's a prequel to GoT. Well okay, lol.
I just watched the final episode, and I came to see what people feel about it. This video really encapsulates how I felt about it. I love character development, dialogue, intrigue, etc. That's why I love asoiaf. But this season just felt so meh. Just felt like there's a lotta stuff that wasn't needed, and a lot of stuff that Was needed wasn't there haha
So many thoughts: - One of the show-runners left after season 1 maybe that was the reason why S2 was so dull. - While in GoT they had way more material to work with here it's just half of a book well at least its finished I think. - The producers want to milk to cow and drag it out as long as possible
Condol became the main showrunner… he was D&Ds protege and helped write the last seasons of GOT that’s all that needs to be said this show will die very quickly if the don’t fire him immediately.
Season 2 of HOTD was similar to the second season of The Walking Dead when they were stuck on a farm spending multiple episodes going in circles searching for Sophia..
I'm so glad somebody else remembers that, too. I remember how The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones were once the biggest shows out there and they both faded into oblivion. Bojack Horseman and Breaking Bad really were the highlight of television, huh.
True. "Lord of the Rings" is more than just a fairytale with swords, but "Song of Ice and fire" sure is. Plus sexual perversion to attract more audiences.
The Season 7 comparison is harsh because I personally was more let down by season 7 than season 8. The final season just felt like a continuation of 7, and from 6 to 7 it felt like an entirely different show.
I feel like it was only disappointing in the context of a season finale. As an episode of the show it was amazing. But it wasn’t that. People have said that GoT has its climax in the penultimate episode, but the claiming of the dragons didn’t feel like the climax of the season. The climax happened in episode two and it’s just been regular episodes since then
Okay, I feel it's fair to ask now, but where the fuck is Harrold Westerling? Graham McTavish is pretty awesome and the show seemed to have forgotten about him faster than Daenerys forgot about the Iron Fleet.
I feel like CGI Dragons raises the production budget, plus including huge army battle scenes = even more production budget... A full on season of wars and battles would bankrupt HBO...
At the end of season 1, i thought war was inevitable. Then s2 rheanyra pulled a mission impossible nun disguise to try and avoid it? I thought we settled it was inevitable. End of s1, I had Daemon on Rhaenyras side. He took a whole season to.. stay on her side?
Build up hype just to have ALL THE BATTLES OFF SCREEN…but of course let’s give screen time to Tyland Lannister mud wrestling a lesbian. Rheana leaving joff to chase a dragon. Alicent sneaking to Dragonstone(WTF KIND SECURITY DO BOTH SIDES HAVE THAT ANYBODY CAN JUST ENTER THE ROYAL HALLS????)Alicent wanting to stop WHAT SHE STARTED. Rhaenyra showing up to Daemons army acting like she didn’t push him away from Dragonstone…RUBBISH
We need someone to count how many times that damn song "ahhh ahhh, ooh ahhh, ahhh, ahhhaaahhh." Everytime rheneara had any type of dialogue. Its like each episode had 3 directors each, and each wanted to include the song in their own scenes for each episode.
This season did have problems. One was Rhaenyra being far too hesitant on everything. And Otto and Alicent also come to think of it. Daemon did fuck all pretty much and only had a couple great scenes here and there. Mysaria should be dead tbh because even in season 1 I forgot she existed. Aemond should be a tad more cunning but he’s one of the better characters this season. Helaena should have gone mad in the books and blood and cheese should have been like it was in the books also. Corlys really needed to be active in the blockade, honestly kept forgetting about the Velaryons and Rhaena should have had a lot less screen time searching for the dragon.
They definitely could’ve made it 10 ep, 8 was good set up for us to see the new riders training with their dragons, they could’ve left off right before the battle of the gullet starts.
I've laboured through S1 and then S2 in the hope it would come to life. It hasn't. This is more akin to a House of Bridgerton than anything else. Biggest issue for me is the characters are utterly wooden and I struggle to think of one that I'm interested in. Script is flat out tedious and stretched out like someone spreading too little butter on too much bread. Prequels and sequels are always hard but this effort is downright horrible. I don't know what the show runners are up to but doing a good story justice doesn't seem to be their thing.
What they’ve done with Rhaenyra and Alicent’s characters is a pretty good argument for why women SHOULDN’T be leaders which is definitely not what they’re going for lol. Like the shows decision to make them both super indecisive and worried about peace over everything even when their side losing means at least some of their family has to die is ridiculous. It felt like team black just get wrecked this season despite having the advantage with dragons. It isn’t wise and measured to let the enemy pick off your allies one by one while you sneak into the enemies base and beg your stepmother for peace. Just stupid behavior
This season had a few hits and a lot of misses. Starting with Blood & Cheese which was much more shocking and impactful in the books. With muddled story lines, character motivation, and dubious verisimilitude, this gives me the feeling of GoT season 5 and 6 that this is heading in a bad direction.
Yeah the writing has been pretty bad since EP1. The characters don't have coherent motivation/characterization; buncha filler then a scene with the shape of a dramatic event, but no weight. The poor actors have to ham up the fluff. I legit cringed/felt bad for Matt Smith's "To war!" scene
it would be perfect if we got two more episodes why do they keep thinking that cutting the number of episodes would be a good idea? it never is...looking at you GOT
The misunderstanding and what they did to Alicent is such poison for an otherwise good show. Reminder that characters like Cersei only ever contributed to the greatness of the show. If they wanted to emphasize Alicent going hard down this route it should've at least been after her children and thousands have already died.
Alicent and Daemon both bending the knee saps the show of a whole lot of the tension it had. The heavily-teased action that MIGHT come in season 3 seems more pointless than ever. House of Dragons is all talk and no trousers.
The problem is that they try to sell the show as a Rhaenyra vs Alicent fight and we all know that the show would be better without them. They showed a scene of Alicent taking a bath in a lake but they don’t want to show how Aemond burn everybody in Sharp Point. They focus on the wrong characters. Fake female power is ruining entertainment
I wouldn’t mind the prophecy if they did it in a more ironic way. GRRM has show multiple times in his books that people who follow prophecy tend to shape them to their own benefit, sometimes to the point of getting it completely wrong, and use them to justify their actions. We know that the Targaryens don’t actually personally stop the threat or sit on the throne, but they don’t know that, and that could have been used to show their hubris. But the show is using the prophecy to actually try to justify why Rhaenyra is right to try and win the iron throne. Which I think goes against the ideas that Martin has, that war is never justifiable. They have Rhaenyra talk of peace whilst still trying to go for the throne, when laying down her arms and surrendering would be the most peaceful solution for the realm. This could be an interesting hypocrisy of Rhaenyra but the show doesn’t portray it as that at all, just that woman want peace and men don’t. It’s things like that idea which bring the show down. The show refuses to really show what this story is about. A family so hungry for power that it eats itself alive and tears down the realm with it. Neither side is necessarily good because they both continue with the war.
I wish they’d change to animation. This world is beyond live action. It’s less costly and would be able to be more book accurate with room for creative elements.
I'm probably going to get hate, but I'm so tired of everything being about Daenerys in this franchise. She's a great character - yes but I want HOTD to be about the current story. I want this show to be about itself and not have to keep bringing in GOT to keep people drawn in. I know it's because of nostalgia, but it's really peeving me at this point.
I love the point about comparing how much progress the plot made in s1 v s2. I keep making that point to my friends. We saw 17 years, 3 transitions of power/kings made, multiple allegiance shakeups, dragons are born and claimed left and right, and there’s so much action, entire setpieces got yada yadad for time, like Lianna claiming Vegar. Season 1 was so packed, they had to choose which awesome moments to include. In season 2, we leave the board almost exactly where we found it at the start of the season. There was a botched murder in ep1, a botched assasination in ep2, and an epic dragon battle in s4, but all of these monumentous events ended in stalemate. The closest thing we got to political plot progress is Aemond stepping in as king regent, but Aegon is still “the rightful king” at the end of the season, and while there are lots of new dragons and army’s, but They don’t mean shit until something happens with them. This needed to be 10 eps
When I told people, Who Don't watch youtube regularly, that I was perusing the recaps of the end of house of the dragon.... They Didn't even know that season two had come and gone... That's when I realized that the game of thrones franchise is never again going to be a global phenomenon... Normies just don't watch this prequel show. Game of thrones was a show for everyone, And this show is just for hardcore fans. The show runners had a chance to change that with the first two seasons and they have failed completely.
Yeah that's just not true. Like it or not this show is insanely popular and the discourse around it is all over the place at the moment, I can't come up with a single friend group I know where there aren't at least three people watching it, some of them never seeing Game of Thrones. Then again you can discard my whole comment as anecdotal evidence, which it is in parts, but your entire comment is conjecture based on personal anecdotes
@@simonriley4131 First off, I think I may have been misunderstood. I don't LIKE at all that this show has failed to become a massive global phenomenon. I WANTED it to succeed. I wanted it to redeem G.O.T. for the massive failures of season 7 and 8 that pushed so many people away. 2nd, what I'm talking about is the normies, man. Not our friend groups. I'm talking about the ubiquitous following that G.O.T. had at the end of Season 2, that House of the Dragon simply has not achieved. At the end of Season two of the original G.O.T., everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY you ran into watched that show. The grocery clerk, the security guard, the waitress at the restaurant...everybody around you had their own theories and favorite characters. You could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and there was a 50% chance they were watching the show. Young and old, man or woman, boy or girl. You can't seriously be claiming that HOTD has that kind of notoriety. It simply does not. I WISH IT DID. And I wish that the showrunners had not completely SQUANDERED the opportunity to create that kind of buzz with this milquetoast, pathetic season two. But I'm glad you like it. I'm not at all trying to dissuade you from that.
@@retroguyst8132 Honestly I agree, while HOTD is certainly popular, its nowhere near the level of popularity GOT had. It also doesn't help that HOTD keeps diverging from the original lore in bad ways that either hurt the characters or the story.
The season was boring, it was episode after episode of the same things happening over and over. Then a dumb finale. Even the soundtrack was dull, when Ramin Djawadi doesn't feel like doing his best, that's a bad sign and I'm talking about the guy that even in GOT season 8 (the worst season) he made master pieces of his music.
Cant believe I just watched the whole season waiting for something to happen and nothing really does. During the finale you think finally, something is going to happen, but no, the build up is the finale.
Cozy Kino- I loved the last episode. I think it sets us up for season 3 very well. I especially loved the ending where they are all "walking through their destinies". As Haelena said, "we are all part of a story". I hate I have to wait 2 years for season 3. I enjoyed your video and listening to your point of view. I was NOT disappointed.
100% agree. There were some good scenes, but the pacing is way off. An this last episode was just one big disapointment. And AGAIN with a very convoluted Rhyneara / Alicent scene...
YES you expressed all of my thoughts about this season! Like I don't wanna flat out say this show is bad and boring and the writers don't know what theyre doing, after all some episodes in this season were excellent and the overall quality of the show in writing, acting and production is still incredible. But, the direction they took with the story of this season and with some characters in particular and the way it was all paced and executed was confusing and frustrating. Season 1 was supposed to be the set up for this war that would play out in season 2, but it turns out this was just preparing for a war than will happen in season 3! This season was so focused on the character drama and politics that it forgot to actually pay off everything it set up, and weirdly episode 4 did get really satisfying pay off for the set up of the first half of the season with the battle and the brotherly rivalry and Rhaenys death, big emotional shocking story moments and character development and spectacle. We didn't need to have a battle and big character death every episode but to at least have more plot progression and to have the story so bogged down with characters indecision and procrastination and bickering and second guessing. Aemond feels like the only character with motivation and ambition and moral ambiguity who is corrupted by power and greed and desire, but I swear he gets the least screentime, whereas everyone else is just... kind of there. They literally spend a whole season forging alliances and gathering armies and finding dragon riders and fighting amongst themselves before the war even really begins! And characters going rogue and being reckless and trying to get swift revenge and trying to prevent the war after it's already begun and offering a peaceful resolution when it's too late, instead of them all being power hungry and bloodthirsty like in the books. Again the only character who's exploiting the chaos for personal gain and manipulating others to gain power is Aemond, and maybe Larys. I guess it adds more depth to the characters to actually have more emotional vulnerability and regret and shame and self-doubt and to debate about the morality and necessity and strategy of war, but it takes far too long to reach the point episode 8 ends on and it doesnt feel like a finale! Not all filler is bad filler, GOT has always been a slow burn, but GOT had a diverse range of colourful characters and engaging storylines and engrossing political drama, this season just feels like it's dragging it's feet and filling time to give us a season that gave us more set up than payoff, and is especially jarring after season 1 was so crammed full of story almost to a fault as it rushed through so much of it. I pray season 3 really picks up the pace and delivers on the gripping bloody drama and action this season shouldve had
Tyland was brilliant - honestly in about two scenes he went from being a background character I couldn't remember the name of to one of the most likeable characters on the show :D I'd happily watch a series with him just going on a Grand Tour round Essos :'D
5:05 he was smelling Alicents handkerchief with her name on it (her favour) when the scene started, that plus the vibes he noticed at the red keep I think were enough. this was pretty clear. The season still fucking sucks tho dont get me wrong
The theme of the season I think is supposed to be duty is sacrifice which aligns with S2E1 opening dialogue, but it was somehow both underdone and overcooked making for a messy experience. I'm still riding with this show but give Rhaenera and Allicent some edge and each season 10 episodes.
Daemon’s character has the best arc, too many characters that theyre trying to squeeze in and they did it for cgi dragons. They did no development on the dragon riders, no attachment to them or context. Theres a few good characters on the show, original GoT would omit characters from episodes to focus on developing everyone properly. This show tries to develop them in small bits every episode. Sarah Hess is a terrible writer.
When I heard you say there were originally supposed to be 2 more episodes it almost made sense- tread some water and then have 2 climactic episodes of major plot - except those 2 episodes will now be in season 3 I guess!!
The thing is, if they didn't have a budget for a fight or battle except for rooks rest and the sowing sequence then how in the hell they gonna have budget for the events to come? Either HBO starts to throw money into the show or they will cut and butcher every battle which in fact isn't the writers fault since it's evident they planned this for 10 eps, what's the writers fault tho is more wandering around the corridors and another driftmark dock scenes with some questionable writing, because that aside from the lack of budget is also the problem.
I’m sorry but I hated the battle. They set up an amazing battle that would be a siege for the ages. Within a few minutes the whole thing was over, CGI dragons and fire kill everything. Everyone runs away. We see a dragon bite another dragon. That’s LITERALLY all that happened in the battle. The writers think dragons are the why we are watching these shows. But that isn’t nor should it be the reason. The dragons remove any tension that a scene could be afforded. They are too strong. We know what will happen every single time they fly in. They should not be normal tools for war. Instead used very conservatively and with some sort of consequence when utilized. Otherwise it’s either total destruction or a crappy CGI battle between two dragons with two actors sitting on wooden horses in front of green screens pretending to do something.
"They are too strong" ......That's the entire point of dragons. They are overpowered and can literally melt castles and armies easily. That's why Targaryen families have all the power in Westeros.
@@centripetal6157 yes lol. I don’t dispute the point that this was intentional. That has nothing to do with what I’ve said. Which is a critique of the show and how lackluster the only battle scene in the entire season ended up being because of them. As a tv show where there is only an hour per episode and the CGI makes them look so clearly CGI, it was far too abrupt.
@@searsino I don't understand your logic. A dragon can delete an entire army from a battlefield.... So, why not use them in battles?? They are extremely effective. Why would dragon lords and rulers not use the most effective weapon they have in a war? Its like having a machine gun in a pillow fight - you win no matter what the enemy does. Why not use it in a war?
I'm not even excited about Season 3. Not only was Season 2 boring but they kept pushing more and more woke ideology instead of focusing on the actual story. Overall I'm super disappointed.
I'd generally agree with your comparison to GoT season 7, in that both felt incredibly drawn out, like they were either stalling for time or had no compelling ideas to put to screen. If you take out all the repetitive or unnecessary scenes, the result is basically half of a season of TV. Which is sad, because absolutely none of my criticism lies with the actors, the cinematography, the set design, costumes, visual effects, or music. It lies squarely on the writing, which unfortunately, everything else is in service of. Great video. Looking forward to the next one!

HERALD: Battle of Rook's Rest.

@@2424rocketwith how they treated us with GoT I dont know why u guys thought they would respect us.
The Alicent who wanted 'an eye for an eye' would've let the whole realm burn before willingly sacrifice her first born- whom she put on the throne.
This is dumb as fuck even more if you will consider 2 other of her sons still will be danger for Rhayenyra
Goes against both the book and S1 characterization
They could have shown a kingdom needlessly ripped apart destroying a dynasty over bullshit like not wanting to follow a woman but they made some weird mopey fanfic about two indecisive impulsive women whose petty fight about who was sluttier in their teen years is causing a bloody war
Well said
They pussed out hard with this season.
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δthe writing in the show makes me sick

But FFS I want to see the Alicent from S1 who pushed Aegon onto the thrown not this weird mopey fanfic of her switching teams because she wants to run away with Rhaenyra and go get margaritas in Essos together. The war is in full swing and they have both lost family members, they should both be bloodthirsty royals by this point.

No wonder George is pissed at this show. STOP CHANGING STUFF. I get it, some stuff has to be changed. But if they really killed sunfyre.....that would be a really really huge and bad decision.
He isn't pissed at all, he's promoting every episode and was particularly fond over the battle at Rook's Rest.
He says that although many changes are often made to the story 99 percent of times such writers never succeed in making the story better
2) In the books Sheepstealer lived in Dragonstone.
It’s George’s fault for letting the writers have too much creative control in the contract
Same reason he has the blame to the downfall of game of thrones
Dumb and dumber had horrible resumes before GOT yet George was okay with letting them take control
The dragon claiming scene was immense and completely flipped the board.
the weird thing is that they confirmed there would only be 4 seasons and season 3 would likely only have 8 episodes, so they're not really trying to stretch it out

Aegon had very good character development this season because the actor is amazing and the writers seem determined to embarrass his character while showing Rhaenyra to be a perfect girlboss which ends up being so boring in comparison
Man, I hate the Daemon thing so, so much
@@Casboof Idk I feel like Rhaenyra is constantly shown to hesitate and make wrong decisions. It's definitely less on the nose than in Aegon's case, but I do think they show her weaknesses quite well.
Alicent feels the most butchered by this season
Also Rhaenyra. In season she’s spicier doesn’t care so much about duty and acts more pissed when people try to take her throne. In season 2 she complains a lot and does nothing. She doesn’t want to murder innocents but also doesn’t want to give up her throne. Like ladies please just do something 😪
For me this episode started of well enough and I was thinking hmm OK if you where the 8th episode of a full 10 episode season this would be decent set up, but this is the final episode of the season so what are you gonna do, and then it started getting stupid for 5 reasons for me
1. Just everything to do with alicent and rhaenyra and the constant sneaking in and out of each other main base and how much they are butchering thier character arcs and what they are meant to be
2. I found the show started rushing itself in terms of getting all the armies into place instead of spending a couple episodes more getting everything together
3. Rheana actress is constantly annoying me with her face in constant worry and I hate how they are completely cutting nettles out for her to claim one of the coolest dragons
4. I was enjoying deamon having a spiritual journey unpacking his family trauma even is it could have been done a bit better but for it to turn around and be about white walkers was stupid
5. And finally they've completely wasted otto this season, wtf has he been doing since we left and why is he in a cage? This is ridiculous
Also
6. Daemon gets the woke treatment similar to Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones(old, sitting around, apparently wants to bag his mom), submits and kneels to strong female protagonist
7.Lesbian Sisterhood on dragonstone
8.sh*t rooks rest battle to include a feminist sendoff for female actress
9. man playing a woman playing a man(triarchy pirate chick?dude?thing)
10. blue haired(antifa/BLM/sjw)pirates
And more...it's going the boys on us....
i honestly thought i was stupid and forgot about some sort of thing that happened with otto in season one.

On pins & needles.

So many thoughts:
- One of the show-runners left after season 1 maybe that was the reason why S2 was so dull.
- While in GoT they had way more material to work with here it's just half of a book well at least its finished I think.
- The producers want to milk to cow and drag it out as long as possible
How about the woke agenda ? A fucking trans in westerlos lol
Condol became the main showrunner… he was D&Ds protege and helped write the last seasons of GOT that’s all that needs to be said this show will die very quickly if the don’t fire him immediately.
To the showrunners: we'll look over your shortcomings if you gives episodes 9 and 10 RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!
No deal. They gotta go
Season 2 of HOTD was similar to the second season of The Walking Dead when they were stuck on a farm spending multiple episodes going in circles searching for Sophia..
I'm so glad somebody else remembers that, too.
I remember how The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones were once the biggest shows out there and they both faded into oblivion.
Bojack Horseman and Breaking Bad really were the highlight of television, huh.
The Walking Dead should have ended around season 6-7.
You nailed it on the head. The House of Drags-on endlessly
I've fallen out of love with A Song of Ice and Fire. As I've got older, I see now how nihilistic and empty it is compared to the Lord of the Rings.
This also feels like a different brazil, low-budget TV show... Season 2 of Sulejman
The Finale That Never Was
I feel like it was only disappointing in the context of a season finale.
Ahh, the curse of HBO, the legacy of D&D still roams Kingslanding in House Of The Dragon.
Mud wrestling a Troon
I thought Joff and Tyraxes stayed in the Vale as per the dragon agreement? Am I mistaken?
We need someone to count how many times that damn song "ahhh ahhh, ooh ahhh, ahhh, ahhhaaahhh." Everytime rheneara had any type of dialogue.
Its like each episode had 3 directors each, and each wanted to include the song in their own scenes for each episode.
We need another 1-2 episode for the season with some actions.. too much talking and lack of climax for season finale..
I woulda of excepted the last episode being the training for the new riders an their character development, but they couldn’t even do that….. 🤦🏾♂️
Your assessment of this season is spot on. Couldn’t agree more.
4:40 More of Jacaerys mewing in the background killed me 😂😂😂😂😂
Real happy I got to watch a mud wrestling match and sing song from characters I couldn't repeat their name if you paid me.
I legit cringed/felt bad for Matt Smith's "To war!" scene
it would be perfect if we got two more episodes
why do they keep thinking that cutting the number of episodes would be a good idea? it never is...looking at you GOT
Oh, I hope you are right about a total reboot of Thrones; otherwise, why else keep going back to the Distater.
Yea I bet you had a lot of fun with the Tyland Lannister scenes 😬😬😬🤡
?
Bran still sits on the iron throne, so the visions dont make any sense
Terrible season and worse finale! Boring!!
The whole season felt like it was buffering while season 3 loaded
I'm probably going to get hate, but I'm so tired of everything being about Daenerys in this franchise. She's a great character - yes but I want HOTD to be about the current story. I want this show to be about itself and not have to keep bringing in GOT to keep people drawn in. I know it's because of nostalgia, but it's really peeving me at this point.
I cancel my subscription right after the season finale.
“Fire and Blood “ turns into, “Chatting With My Bestie.” Peaked at episode 4, then died.

Not for me. Loved every episode. Maybe you should stick with acolyte
8:14 them retconning by having the night king just be a miniboss would actually work, and fix it in john snow series
After episode 4 nothing happened except for bad and boring dialogue.
"They are too strong"
......That's the entire point of dragons.
@@centripetal6157 yes I can see you don’t understand. I’m not debating the strength of dragons. I’m criticizing their impact on the tv series
