      I remember when Doug Kristi was drafted, George had issues with Doug because he wouldn't sign a BS contract. Doug went like 15th in first round,Sonics offered him low second round money. he held out, George bad mouth him after that.

    Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, JR Smith, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Gary Payton, Andre Igudola, Ty Lawson & Boogie Cousins all hated George Karl when he coached them... Who's the common denominator in this equation?

      Matt The Knicks Fan On Carmelo game, I felt he just there because he gifted. None wrong with that but if he wanted to be the man he need to carry himself as a man (basketball term) like LeBron. Melo need to pass more, make teammates better, defensively, he talented in score but everybody can score

    • @matttheknicksfan
      @matttheknicksfan 8 років тому

      Air Jay i think its the other way around, everyone can play defense(rather than offense) all u gotta do is slide your feet and talk. but just like harden, he wanted the other 4 to handle that and he'll handle the offense.
      hes gotten better over the years, he had 15 in a quarter tuesday while he limited pg13 to 16 for the whole game.

    Karl's had beef with every star player he coached. In Seattle, he got fired for his beef with Gary Payton. In Milwaukee, it was Ray Allen, in Denver, it was most of the Nuggets roster, and in Sac, it was Boogie.

    George Karl is 100% correct. He covered up all of Carmelos weaknesses with the team he built in Denver when they were good. Carmelo only did one thing in Denver and that was shoot. He got beat off the dribble consistently and always had Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby and Nene to pick up his slack and do his dirty work. Then he forces his way out of Denver and is struggling to win in a weak eastern conference. That 2014 season before they drafted porzingez he straight up quit on the knicks. Melo is not a top 15 player and barely a top 20 player if you ask me. George Karl did was Stan can Gundy did for Dwight Howard hid their weaknesses and then they got exposed once they left

    • @EynouxLaStar
      @EynouxLaStar 8 років тому +1

      trey092001 just because he is super talented offensive player doesn't mean he has to be great on defense. EVERYONE has a weakness, that why basketball is a team game, and you need complimentary talent for everyone to shine and succeed. For Carl to now criticize Anthony sounds very diva-like to me

    Typical George Karl, never takes blame for failure, but is willing to help you (or remind you if necessary) heap all of the credit on to his placid shoulders, where his ego is perched unbothered with the world around him. His premise, Melo is no saint on or off the court, may be true, but his reasoning and approach to sharing his experience is ego-maniacal, self-centered, and irrational. Funny, cause that's what Karl would have you believe about anyone he does not approve of!

    Don’t know what Karl was like but do know that what he said about Carmelo was true. He was not a winning player. Really more of a compiler. Not a very good passer and seemed lazy on defense. I’m a Knicks fan and when they made move to get him I was not that happy. I didn’t think he would move the needle on winning. Odd thing is they were losing under 500 one season and he went out with an injury and the team went on a tear beating everyone led by an undrafted third string rookie point guard from of all places Harvard. Linsanity was born because he Jeremy Lin started hitting teammates when they were in position to score and infusing an unselfish team spirit. It didn’t last forever but the point was made someone with less ability then Melo but a winning style and IQ had a better impact on helping the team win. Melo was better when he played in the Olympics. Maybe with bigger stars than him he was forced to play smarter.

    I literally have no idea WHY Melo has been getting all this unfair hate the last couple of years. Offensively, I do not need to explain to anybody why he is so great. Passing? He doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves for it, like every volume shooter. Defense? People try to pretend that Melo is not one of the strongest and most physical combo forwards in the League, great rebounder and when pushed and focused, a very capable defender from 3-5. That, equals a GREAT player, a SUPERSTAR. A basketball player that can do 8 out of 10 things at an elite level.

    Has anyone ever stopped to think that what George Karl is saying could be true? Carmelo has lost more than won with the knicks, with the knicks being a more successful team when Lin and stoudemire were running the team, not to mention how he gutted the knicks of any assets when he did make his way in, instead of just signing for a free agent for money reasons, which is somewhat understandable, but he obviously had the most powerful hand at the table and could have rejected the trade had he felt the knicks were giving up too much.

    Honestly, I never understood the hype around Carmelo. I always thought he was overrated. He was a star, not a superstar. George was out of line when he mentioned family, but no one can argue what he said about Melo's game. Anyone who has paid attention over the years can agree that both George and Melo underachieved, especially together...

    Criteria for the Top Ten in first half of 2016-17/Individual skill, effort, and numbers. Team success cannot be counted because if you trade Lebron for Anthony Davis, the Pelicans would still stink, just a lil less. 1. Lebron James 2. Russell Westbrook 3. Kevin Durant 4. James Harden 5. Anthony Davis 6. Kawhi Leanord 7. Demarcus Cousins 8. Kyrie Irving 9. Steph Curry 10. Isaiah Thomas

    If you feel a coach has the right to criticize his players or former players publicly, then what he said is fine. George Karl is not the first person who has said this about Carmelo Anthony.
    Is it a coach's job to be a father figure? Some say yes some say no. I don't think it's my boss' job to make sure I know what I'm doing with my personal life. That's my 2 cents.

    say what you want about melo as a player, but the moment you bring up family that's out of line, and on top of that, Melo's father died of cancer when he was 2, so that whole not having a father comment is just heartless and a bigoted remark, to assume him not having a father figure is why he is the way he is, and what exactly is wrong with melo? he's always been a class act, has a great wife and son, Karl is just a bitter man because he has all those wins and nothing to show for it, if people from as far back as Gary Payton have a problem with you, then it's clearly not the players fault

    1. Bron
    2. KD
    3. Kawhi
    4. Paul George
    5. Greek Freak
    And I could make a strong case for Gordon Haywood. Look at their numbers this year....very similiar. Utah is better than NYK in a tougher conference with less talent. So that's 5 definite, and maybe 6
