I was a kid when I started to listen to Gorillaz, because of the cartoon look, and now I love both the former Blur vocalist and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn (that's why I love to listen to music so much) and the animator behind it all Jamie Hewlett (he's the reason why love to draw and do sketches)
I wouldn't call Gorillaz pop, or Damon Albarn's other projects for that matter. He is a trend setter within genres (like dancehall for example) that maybe will be one day in the future. That however does not mean he is in the pop world.
I just have to say, when I first heard Saturnz Barz the other day (the day the video dropped), I had a genuine smile for for the first time in a good while- and the second I heard 2D start singing, I started jumping around my apartment, laughing out of pure, overwhelming, childlike happiness. As a guy now in his early 20's, cynical and apathetic towards most aspects of life, I must say thank you to both Damon and Jamie for bringing back this feeling of excitement into my world. I'm sure there must be others who feel exactly the same way I do right now, so this is a thanks from all of us listening around the globe.

There are lots of Electronic stuff in Think Tank. It's not very "Blur" in spirit, as it doesn't have Graham Coxon, but it's my favorite album nonetheless. Also, be sure to check out The Good, the Bad and The Queen, a one-shot album by Damon and three other great musicians. :)
I wonder if he reached out for Childish Gambino on this album. Because Gambino would fit well. Even at the beginning of "Have Some Love" by Gambino it sounds like something the Gorillaz would produce.

Simply put Damon Albarn is a godlike musical genius. He can be the swaggering frontman, but knows when to step back and produce artists tying them into the Gorillaz sound and vibe, like he's describing with Popcaan. It really takes a special kind of person to be happy to have someone else dominate your own track but Gorillaz make it work so well.
I legitimately cried out of happiness when Gorillaz released their new songs. I only became a fan about a year ago but I listen to their music nearly everyday, and I thought they wouldn't release any new albums.
The second I get my first paycheck I'm buying the crap outta this album! I was about 14 when I discovered Gorillaz... Its been a beautiful six years of love and discovery for me
