It is best late June through early August. Around Tangle Lakes, there are campsites but you can literally camp wherever you want. There are several spots along the way with great views.
We did it in july of 22 from Paxton to Cantwell. The first ~65 miles to the Susitna river is the most beautiful. Beyond the river to Cantwell I felt the road got significantly worse. In fact the road was terrible and we were down to 5 to 10 miles per hour for long stretches of time. It was very bad. That said, we want to go back and stay along it in the many places there are. It was among the most beautiful places we saw in Alaska.
@@jayamos456 I am a little jealous. My post trip research leads me to think we missed a great area not doing the Tok cutoff. Did you visit the mine site at the end of Nebesna road?
