I purchased my first ever wood burning kit from one of your videos and I’m super excited! My wife and I are expecting our second child this summer and we’re striving to find other ways to make extra income. I’m excited to begin this journey and I have your channel to thank for helping! May God bless you and your family! I’m subscribed and looking forward to future content!
That is awesome! Congrats on the new addition! Which burner did you go with?
@@Pyrocrafters thank you so much! We went with the wood burner off Amazon that’s linked in your description. Walnut Hallow I believe!
Fab video even four years later! Loved that you spoke about the line texture and the scorching vs non-scorching, I love seeing the way every crafter has their own style. I've never burned a lettering piece so I'm excited to try it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m new to woodburning and this was very helpful!
Thanks!! Glad you liked it!
Super helpful! You guys are underrated!!
It so mesmerizing watching the process. My first kit is ordered. Planning to do a project on an electric guitar after I get more comfortable.
this didn't even occur to me to wood burn instruments! My snare would be an awesome idea!
You are a helpful person, and your accent is endearing. You get a like.
Chris C awe! Thanks!! 😍
I love the bloopers - you’re right, it really is so much harder than it looks, talking to a camera, trying not to sound like a crazy person 🤣
Laura Kemp Yes!! It’s weird talking to the camera. It’s takes some getting used to.
Too cute on the outtake -- you did a great job, thanks!
Tracy Parks thanks!
So simple and to the point! Thank you for this 🙌🙌🙌🥰
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this. I have such a steep learning curve but am having fun so far with my slow progress.
You're welcome! And that's okay, it's fun to go slow and just experiment. Thanks for watching!
I really appreciate your bloopers!
Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had fun with it. :)
I have just bought the tool so was looking for some videos to get some advice. Your videos are awesome!! Thank you so much I have learned so much from you already.
I think you wanted to say I've added it in the link below but that's okay you are too cute and you did a wonderful job. Thank you for the information and thank you for the smile❤❤
Yes! Thank you!
Bloopers cracked me up!😁
Thank you for sharing! I want to try this now. Great work!😊
Nice job, simplifies it for us, funny outtakes too. Agreed, making videos is harder than it looks.
The Angry Mushroom Emporium thanks! Yes it’s very hard. I kinda freeze up on camera.
Great. Thanks
Nice tips! Thank you! And fun bloopers! 🥰
Thanks Celita!
Girl you are awesome!!! Thanks so much!!!
Thanks! And you're so welcome!
That's freakin' awesome! Just startin' to get into wood burning and this was an awesome video...I'm doin' that
Thanks Leah! I'm so glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this tutorial
Microsoft Publisher works great for laying out your sign as well.
Im just getting into wood burning, this has been very helpful, thanks for posting.
You're very welcome!
Brilliant video, subscribed!
Thanks BigKev!
very nice✔️
Beautiful!
Thanks Carmen!
This is wonderful and helpful! What type pf tip is being used?
Great video! Many thanks! I did find the background music a little annoying though
Amazing work! Thank you for sharing your talent and tips. I've been trying to find a tutorial on how to burn words and your video was on point! You've earned yourself a new subscriber and follower!!! One question... Whats the best wood to burn on? Thanks!!!
Great video! Thank you!
Alvin's Dad thanks!!
Very nice!
Your video was very insightfull, just one thing, could you please turn your volume up some more? Thanks!
I agree! I chalk it up to being inexperienced with making video's but I'm learning. Hopefully my new ones are getting better. Thanks for watching!
I Print a mirror then iron it on dose a great job that way.
That's a great idea! Do you use a certain type of paper?
My wood burner is just a $30 kit.. It doesn't seem to burn anywhere near this well... Am I doing something wrong or using the wrong wood or somethjng??
You're not doing anything wrong. The $30 starter burners don't get as hot as the Colwood burner I'm using in this video. They starter burners are great for trying pyrography and you can certainly burn very well with those, they just aren't as fast and versatile as the pros.
Thank you for the help☺️
I would like to learn this thing’s
How well will this withstand the weather? I’m thinking of making outdoor trail signs. My current signs are painted and the paint seems to fade quickly. Would the wood burning hold up better?
I love this! Thank you for showing us how. Also, I noticed you stamped the back. Where did you get your stamp from and was it ink or burned?
Wendi M thanks!! It’s an ink stamper. I got it from rubberstamps.com. It’s a 4”x4”.
Did you mention why tip you were writing with? I’m a newb
What type of tip did you use?
I’ve just got my first pyrography pen. I am truly terrible at it! Can’t wait to get better though 😬😬😬
LOL! You will! Just keep playing around with it. It gets easier. :)
Pyrocrafters thanks for the vote of confidence, but It’s not happening yet!xx
Nice one 👌🏻
Hi! I just subscribed... But I need your help!! How deep am I to burn into the wood? I've been told 1/4 inch, 1/8 inch, and also, just deep enough to burn...
I just bought my first kit and am loving ever minute of it! At this time I'm just doing lettering and numbers. You seem to be the teacher to follow on u tube. You're calm, happy and you explain how and why.
Keep up the beautiful artwork and I'm looking forward to more of your tutorials.
Thanks Amherst!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the tutorials.
I’ve never followed a depth limit for burning, especially when it’s silhouette work. I really enjoy deep burns on high heat, so I just burn as deep as my pen will go. The only draw back (imo) is if there’s a big mistake like a typo and your only option to fix it is sanding, then burning deep will work against you. It will take a long time to sand it down and get to the raw wood so you can fix the error. Other than that, I don’t see a reason to limit yourself to a certain depth of burn.
@@Pyrocrafters Thank you very much. I've been working on freehand burning, and just finished a Dungeon & Dragon logo for my friend. I dyed the wood red with food coloring, then used color shift red paint inside the logo. I finished off with high gloss clear coat. I think it came out...not too shabby.
Thank you for you're knowledge! You're an amazing teacher!
Hi, do you still run the free monthly Zoom sessions?
Hi there
What other tips can you use? Thank you
Hey Lez! It really depends on the kit you get, but there are a ton of options out there. What tips are you looking for?
pretty cool. looking for a new hobby
What font did you use on "not all those who"? Thank you for this video
It was so long ago, I don’t remember, but I think it was Nexa Rust
donde lo puedo encontrar en colombia
I'm new to this, so it's just a soldering machine and with what kind of adapter at the tip exactly? And where can I get wood templates to do the art work
Hey Steven, I'm using a Colwood burner in this video and it's for wood burning. You can find them at woodburning.com. They have several models.
I like to make my own templates or I download them from Creative Fabrica. Here's a link:
www.creativefabrica.com/ref/972705/
Hi great video. What wood do you use?
Hey, same town!
What? That's awesome!!
Hi. I did a project on oak. It looked great. Then my customer had the wood worker finish it. I think they sanded it and put a coat of polyurethane over it. It lost a lot of burning and looks so much lighter. How can I fix it? Can I re-burn through the polyurethane? Would polyurethane by itself make it “loose” burning?
Hey Moire! I don't recommend burning over the polyurethane. It's not safe for you and it will damage your tips. I'm not sure why you would lose burning detail unless it was a really light burn. When you varnish wood, the grains get a little darker and more brilliant, so if your burn is really light it may lose color with varnish. I'm not sure of a way to fix it beside resanding and starting over, but I would really need to see it before saying what the best thing is to do.
What pen are you using to stencil on the wood
I'm using a sheet of carbon underneath the template and then just a regular pencil to trace. Thanks for watching!
Did you burn over the tape? It looks like there was something on the wood over it
No, I didn't burn over the tape. It's probably a shadow on the wood!
@@Pyrocrafters after rewatching the video a couple of times I realized the wood was different colors! I actually went out and bought a walnut hollow wood burner after watching your review and I’m so glad I did!!
Just wondering what tip you used while filling in.
I believe it was the writing tip, which is how Colwood labels that tips. Some other brands call it a lettering tip. But it’s basically the tip that is just a curved wire with nothing welded on the end. Thanks for watching!
Hi there could you please tell me what kind of burner you are using? Looks a good job. Thanks Jim Smith
Absolutely! I'm using a Colwood Super Pro II. We sell them in our Etsy shop if you want to check it out. :)
Great video. Looks like you use a mask and an extraction fan?
Yes, absolutely. It's not good to breathe in smoke for long periods of time day after day.
Pyrocrafters any tips on where to get those? What type of mask do you use? Thanks for your help!
I legit looked this up with the sole purpose of making my own Ouija Board out of real wood. Al I the only one?? Lol 👻😈💯
What kind of burner is that?
Cali Hunter hey there!! It’s a Colwood Super Pro II from woodburning.com. Thanks for watching!!
Nice but I’m trying to do 3/8-1/2 inch letters and numbers on an ice cream stick as part of a sign on sandstone
Well Daxx, some projects are so oddly specific that you just gotta figure it out on your own bud. The good news is those sticks come in giant bundles, so you got a lot of tries to get it right.
@@Pyrocrafters yea A LOT of sticks,,,,it looks like I burned down a Lilliputian Forest,,,,,I went another route, I got effed up younger in USMC so my handwriting is crap and worse with a burner and dremel with engraving strips on sandstone so I think I’ll look for steel stencils about 3/8-1/2 high font
What photoshop file are you using?
Hey Damien, I just create them on my own by laying out fonts. Here's another video where I share that process. ua-cam.com/video/Eg0WFxwBHgE/v-deo.html
Por favor él tutorías en español, gracias
I have a question, is it necessary to have a mask like yours for safety
I think so. If you're going to be burning for long periods of time, It's really a good idea to wear a mask.
Hi nice work ❤️ !!
may i know the name or brand of the wood burner !🤗 please .
It's my Colwood Super Pro II amzn.to/3k0CxM1
Is that printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper?
It sure is :)
Could a similar effect be achieved using a soldering iron?
supersamschwartz absolutely! Check out our wood burning for beginners video. I show an example of a soldering iron tool.
Very useful, thanks for the video ! How did you get the logo on the back if I may ask? Is it just like stamped?
It is stamped. I got a custom/logo stamp at rubberstamps.com
You add the finish after burning, correct?
I sure do. I have two varnishes that are my favorites. A danish oil and a Spar Urethane. :) Thanks for watching!
its beautiful,I've just started wood burning and really enjoy it. How did you get the lovely scorched effect on the background/ was it just the colour of the wood or did the oil stain it like that.? Thanks for your video.
I stained it. It's been a while, but I think it was a walnut colored stain, so there's some extra color back there.
@@Pyrocrafters Thank you.
Do you think you could please tell me the name of the website you used. I would greatly appreciate it!
I’m happy to, which website are you wanting? Is it a particular product?
At 1.04 in your video. That website where you were customizing your template. Thank you!
@@aidanhottes5469 Oh, that's photoshop. It's not a website. I have it installed on my computer. There is a similar free program called GIMP that's available for download on the web. Just google GIMP and it comes right up. You can also make templates using Microsoft Word. Just place any images or layout your text and print.
I like Photoshop because I've used it for so long and I'm just familiar with how it works. It allows me to create a file the same size as my canvas and I can print the template in sections to make a large template.
@@Pyrocrafters ok thank you SO much!!!
You’re very welcome!
Hey, I went out and bought a woodburner the creative one and it's to really hot. What did you buy to practice with?
Hey Nashondala! I started with a Walnut Hollow Versa Tool, then upgraded to a Colwood. The Versa tool has the brass screw in tips.
Hey love your video how do you get your logo stamped on the finished product?
Hey Michael! I bought a custom logo stamp from rubberstamps.com. They are pretty inexpensive. I hope to upgrade to a heated metal stamp at some point, but they are pricey. :)
What wood burner do you recommend that is cheap for beginners
Hey there! The Chandler Tool is a good craft set from amazon. Or Walnut Hollow makes a beginners wire tip burner called the Walnut Hollow Creative Tool. I have a review about on our channel if you want to check it out. :)
Nice, beautiful work :)
sebasz5 thanks!!
What kind of wood did you use? Where can I buy wood online?
I like basswood and poplar. Walnut Hollow has a lot of great basswood choices online: amzn.to/2Y6NVwb
Can I also use same process on leather? Thanks!
Hey there! I think so. I have very minimal experience with burning leather. I have used templates on leather, but it's not as solid as wood, so it doesn't transfer as well. And leather doesn't need as much heat as wood.
Extremely beautiful work.
A Cosmic Castaway thanks!!
What kind of tips are you using?
Hey Greg! I'm using a Colwood Super Pro II with a straight edge tip and a round lettering tip.
What kind of apps do you use for letter stencils? Thanks
I make all my stencils using Photoshop. Thanks for watching! :)
Question: Did you remove the paper before you started to burn? It look to me like the paper was still there.🤔 Love what you did. Sooo nice.
Hey Deb! I did remove the paper. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching! :)
Cost of burning instrument
How to get kit
Loved this! Can you recommend a good starter kit?
Hey Tiffany! Thank you so much! Walnut Hollow has a lot of good starter kits to choose from. They also have a good higher heat version that isn't as expensive as these pro burners. You can check out their products at walnuthollow.com
I need to know how to burn letters using a calligraphy point
Is there a video on wood burning with a calligraphy tool
Hey Christy! It's so hard! At least for me. I'm still learning how to do it and practicing freehanding lettering. I have a lot of practice to do though. Thanks for watching!
Wish it weren’t so techy.I.e. Using computer programs, computer and printer.
Techy?
I know that part is kind of a drag, but it helps in making custom templates. You can free hand it too. :)
sound is too low..
I agree! I chalk it up to being inexperienced with making video's but I'm learning. Hopefully my new ones are getting better. Thanks for watching!
Lmao. Bloopers...
love your video's but cannot hear you in any of them
I agree! I chalk it up to being inexperienced with making video's but I'm learning. Hopefully my new ones are getting better. Thanks for watching!
Roll Tide
=
tbh this is pretty meh
Thank you!
what kinda of carbon paper do you use
Elaine Smith Hey! Porelon is the brand I use. I think I bought it on Amazon around two years ago. One pack has lasted a long time.
Question, as I just bought I burner yesterday....can you paint the wood (with an acrylic paint) then wood burn? Or is that not recommended?
It's not hard to burn over the paint. I have done that before. I'm not sure of the safety implications though. I would definitely wear a mask.
Please never burn over any kind of color! Acrylics are a plastic polymer... you don't want to burn over that. It is toxic!
I think I’ll find some carbon paper. Free handing gothic letters is not smart
This is just what I needed to know!!! I plan on making a coffee table w/ matching end tables. They will have famous quotes and family member names who have passed on. Thanks!!!!
Great! I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!!
I have basically just been coloring in my letters with color pencils or sharpies because I felt either too cowardly or too unskilled(or both) to actually turn the heat up on my burner and fill in with it.
That works too. It's all about what you feel comfortable doing.
I noticed paper on the wood, seems like you burn through it but I did not see that as part of the process. Can you explain? Thanks!
Hey Anne, at minute 2:04 I slip a piece of carbon paper under the template and begin to trace. Once I've traced the lettering to the wood, I remove the template and carbon, then burn it. I don't burn through the paper itself.
I hope that helps. :)
Does this work for an outdoors sign? For example for your street number? I guess what I mean is by being outside, would UV light eventually cause the burned portion to fade? Or would it make the unburned portion of the wood darker? Would you use a different kind of stain? Would the street sign eventually be destroyed by wood-boring insects? e.g. carpenter ants or carpenter bees?
Aw how lovely were those bloopers. Lovely video. Thank you xx
Thanks Anousha! :)
What brand of wood burner are you using if you don't mind me asking
I’m using my Colwood Super Pro II here
Wowww... its so nice... im gonna try this i mean do these as a souvineer of our friendshipsarry
