    So... what would be the "Emergency" scenario where you use this brake? If you use it at speed, or on a wet, slippery road your rear wheels will lock and your car will go into a deadly spin. It is a parking brake. It operates the rear wheels only. Unless you feel that parking is an emergency, just call it the parking brake. All modern cars have have a dual braking circuit so that a brake fail at one wheel will still allow braking on one front wheel and the opposite side rear wheel; you will be able to stop in a straight line. It worries me that inexperienced driver may pull on this brake in a real-world driving emergency just because they were always told it is an "Emergency Brake". The actual emergency brake is right under your right foot, same place it is every day, every mile.

      @Appreciable Clips heard a story of a person whose pedal brake did not work. He called 911 for assistance and they told him to use his emergency brake. The told them that was a bad idea cause he was going super fast and that would just cause a crash

    • @nishtrel3706

      The driving culture in North America labelling it as "emergency brake" has ruined the knowledge of what a Parking Brake is. The popularity of the Automatic Transmission has a huge part to play in this. But it is all down to plain laziness. Even certified mechanics misidentify these feature as "emergency brake". Sure, let's lock up the rear wheels and make the rear end uncontrollable. Has anyone even question why a P with circle around it, often appears in the dash panel when the such brake is applied? Why not an E with a circle? Oh right, it's not for emergencies.
      Mind you, newer technologies are "changing" this. My owners manual says is if the ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE is applied while moving, the braking system (all four wheels) will slow the vehicle until it stops and then apply the PARKING BRAKE properly. I don't know how vigorously this is done, though.

    • @PURENT
      @PURENT 9 місяців тому

      @@nishtrel3706 You can use it to slow the car down without locking the rear. Just don't fully engage the brake. Hand operated parking brakes give the most control if you ever end up in a scenario where you have to use the parking brake to stop the car.
      You can't modulate with the foot operated one, I have no idea how an electronic parking brake will stop the car using just the cable operated parking brake.

      Unfortunately it's yet another improper named thing. Emergency brakes are usually systems like EBA for panic stops on tucks. Otherwise, people don't call it emergency, just parking.

    • @redtra236

      It can also be used to stop if you lose brake pressure though so both terms are correct. It's definitely needed when parking especially in manual transmission vehicles though.

    DUDE, I dont know if you still log in to this youtube account. But the way you explained the use of a hand emergency break,, is super dangerous. In an emergecy cituation to avoid a collision over a sudden hard break from the vehicle in front. Specially in the highway. Under no CIRCUMSTANCES, A driver should pull the emergency break the way you did. In an emergency cituation the hand brake should be gradually pulled. With the button pressed, without being released. That way the driver has total control in how much break force to be applied. Keeping the button pressed allow the driver to lower the handle gradually or totally. But the way you did it. It will locked in, causing the loss of steering control. Including a possible tip over. Re explain yourself in a more specific matter. The way you pull it, is more when the vehicle is parked and not in motion. Like parking in a hilly road. Your explanation could have people using it like that in every cituation. Including when avoiding a collision,which is extremely dangerous. Re do this video bro. Dang... how idiotic.
