  • During the Second World War, there were many people who collaborated with the Germans and the Nazis. One of these collaborators was Herta Kasparova, a Czech German girl who worked alongside the Gestapo to interrogate prisoners and resisters. Czechoslovakia was placed under German occupation and became known as the Arsenal of the Third Reich, as huge amounts of weapons were produced in the country for the German war effort. But inside, there were many people who refused to submit and there was resistance. Herta Kasparova could speak fluent German and then worked with the Gestapo to translate prisoners testimonies, and her work resulted in the executions of a number of Czech people.
But later in the war, her house was ransacked and attacked by Czech resistance fighters, and Herta pointed out to the Germans 11 men who were responsible. She suffered with a deformity of her leg, and amongst those men she claimed were responsible were those who bullied her at school. Those 11 men were then executed, but after the war Herta Kasparova was captured and placed on trial for being a collaborator during World War 2. She was sentenced to death having been responsible for the deaths of a number of Czechs, and was then executed in front of a huge crowd.

I am Polish and my homeland suffered a lot during the war. This is the worst extermination camp in my country, but let us remember that it was the German beasts that created the concentration camps and ghettos, and people who had nothing to do with good were chosen to serve. Let history never repeat itself .

Oh, for goodness’ sake ! “ Bullied as a child “. I was subjected to some very hurtful comments as a little boy. For being of Jewish origin. For being the son of a struggling single Mum. For my Mums association with the Jehovahs Witnesses. Apparently, according to the lives of nasty harpies alike to this ‘ woman ‘, I ought to have gone utterly bonkers and had people done in. No. These sorts of wicked wretches use childhood trauma as a very unconvincing excuse to harm others.

I was beaten daily and called derogatory names by an older adopted brother who was very big and ended up in prison half his life.
As a teen & young adult I had very low self esteem. Anyway, I don't resent him. In some ways, he made me far tougher. So who knows as in my adult life, not much gets me down.

I've heard the saying that those who have the least power in life exercise the little power they have more ruthlessly than anyone else. This woman's actions caused the deaths of a number of people. I see the death penalty as justifiable for her. However, I also recognize that it was very difficult time for lots and lots of people. They had to choose sides. Perhaps, getting food and rations was part of the reason she chose to help the Germans. She was a sad and brutal person willing to harm others who was placed in a position where she could do that. I blame her and I blame the war that was going on too.

This was one of the most public, documented executions on record. "Brutal" in the title of this video is accurate. Numerous gruesome, tragic photos, from all angles, and from most points in the execution process are in existence, but not shown in this video. As was common, there was no hood or face covering, so everyone could watch her face as she choked to death. Several photos document her hanging there having just died, her eyes open and urine on the ground underneath her suspended body. In the video it is said that an executioner placed his gloved hands over her face; actually, as was the practice, he would have been torquing her head from side to side to hasten strangulation, and then, as was customary, would throw the white gloves on the ground beneath her. I appreciate and understand this page's disgression in not including any of the gruesome photos. Yes she evidentally was a traitor and allegedly worked with the Nazis, but we have to draw the line somewhere with public defiling and humiliation, even if it is after the fact. It seems as if we have hopefully come a long way from locking people into a pillory in a public area so that other people could scorn and abuse them. Sure, punishment must be meted out, with a balance between haste and inaction so that we can be as sure as we can that the punishment is appropriate; especially if it is lethal, but some kind of decency for those convicted would be a manifestation of our higher selves. The Nazis were terrible, terrible (and seeing swastikas displayed in the current era is scary scary), but what we see in hindsight may not have been as clear in the moment. The extent to which droves and droves of people were being grotesquely executed across Europe may not have been as common confirmed knowledge at the time, so droves also of other people may have been somewhat unwittingly caught up in the intoxicating wave of power, hate, and sumpremecy often times perhaps through peer pressure or out in out fear of reprisal for not going along. None the less Herta Kasparova was deemed guilty of terrible crimes against her people, so it appears that appropriate punishment was in order, but the lack of decency in the administration of that punishment was not shown in this video, and I think rightfully so. Sure, strict enforcement of laws, and timely appropriate punishment for those that break them, but decency displayed towards even those that have not displayed decency themselves, is a good sign of a more civilized world - for the most part......

That's an interesting theory. My response is that I worked with a fellow who came from a small German village. His father was a farmer. Towards the end of the war the army came and drafted both him and his father. He was slightly underage, about 16, and his father had been too old to join the army, previously. They were told they had no choice. So, they complied. It turns out that there were several Jehovah Witnesses among the villagers. They refused to join, saying support of the Nazi government was contrary to their beliefs. They were arrested, sentenced to death and executed. My friend witnessed all of this and it left a deep impression on him. He said he has never seen such acts of bravery. So, people always have a choice. They may not survive. But sometimes surviving is not the right or best choice to make.

I beg to differ from many commentators. Far from being a good report, this video is sloppy in the extreme.
If she was 'just a translator' for the Gestapo , she may have been an accomplice to the deaths of Czech resistance workers, but could not have ordered their deaths.
Furthermore, the "Peoples' Courts" formed after the war in Czechoslovakia were hardly paragons of justice. The Untoldpast totally fails to mention this.
70 years later, Czech have admitted this to me today.
Please understand, I am no Nazi sympathiser, and my sypathies are with the Czechs. Herta Kasparova may have been an ardent Nazi, and my indeed have been actively and even enthusiastically involved in getting Czechoslovak citizesns murdered. But the author of this video fails to present that case properly.
Far from being a great channel, as some commentators suggest, I rate this as poor reporting. Please look at yourself with a crirical eye, and state again, UntoldPast, or stop posting amateur videos.

Oh good. Here we go again. The content creator who doesn’t own a thesaurus has given us another execution video. And it’s a BRUTAL one again, boys and girls. Not a COMPELLING one. Could be JUSTIFIED though. I really do think him using capital letters for the adjectives describing the executions really does bring some dramatic flair to the title. Don’t you agree.

Just cut to the chase and admit that we all have hate/evil in us... even those who put her to death were committing legalized murder. Its what humans do... all of us.

@@reidunbrown7971 Yes, ALL of us, in various ways. How many starving children could have been saved by that bar tab you treated your friends to... or the new big screen TV you got... or your football tickets... and on and on and on. There's medical research out there on the cusp of saving lives; maybe even your own or your children. How many accidents did you almost cause because of aggressive driving? When was the last time you donated old clothes you no longer use that have been in the closet for years? I won't even go into your politics (whatever they are) or religion (the richest organizations in the world) or personal prejudices. You're totally unaware that there's a very strong chance that some little thing you did several times in your life caused someone else grief/trouble. Maybe you even noticed it and snickered? Those and many other things humans do every day. You're right... it IS totally ridiculous!!!!

@@thedriszen8350 That's how it is. If the Third World War broke out tomorrow (our political elites seem to want it badly) and nuclear bombs destroyed our cities, there would be no electricity, no water and of course no Internet... What do you think the survivors would do? They would kill themselves for a piece of bread or a sip of water. Let's not apply moral superiority from the comfort of the armchair at home and in the 21st century. In addition, Herta's family was German origin, they were hated in their own town. They also hated her more and made fun of her for being lame and ugly (according to them), which added fuel to the hatred that all wars generate.

A pathetic modern reinterpretation of the psychology of a brutal monster. She was bullied! So were millions of other children. They did not become brutes themselves. Give me a break!

This is the first Nazi I heard of being terrified of execution, they are usually stone cold with no remorse.
