KOF13 is so pretty. Back when it came out, I didn't think fighting games could get much prettier. The sprites aren't that high-resolution (only twice the size as the old ones!), but they're extremely detailed. I'm particularly impressed with the self-shadowing on them.
I’m glad you made this video study. I’m an animator. I was literally playing this the other night and was trying to figure out why if this is 2D rendered or 3D rendered animation. it’s so crisp but there are layers of depth I can’t explain. It’s beautiful. Even the backgrounds are highly animated.
Damn Rolf and Clark got so swol over the years, that they need to lay off the Roids. I’m glad not to see the little Freddy Kruger clone. I’m happy to see when high quality 2D pixel art still being used.

It could be easily overlooked because Xbox is not popular in Japan, but in case you did not know: the Xbox 360 release of KOFXIII (2010) is also playable on any Xbox console released since then, either using the disk or purchasing it online. The netcode was apparently much better than the Playstation 3 release, and online still works on Xbox, so that is how to play it there. The PS3 version, aside from the netcode issue, is not playable on PS4 (as far as I know), and it did not come to Wii or WiiU. (Thanks for the video bringing attention to this great game!
Garow MOTW and SFIII Third strike salute you and are 1999. This KOF is so limited on the movements per character someone's looks so bad, big heads, small arms, just check Jury, Athena or King in other hand other looks like a rhino (Ralf, Clark Terry) in general is a bad game

It's the best looking KOF ever. They should have continued improving this style. KOF XV looks rather behind to it's actual competitors. In this case it looked super original and unique.
Mai has always been the benchmark for a great character and passion for the game, That's why the later games that covered her up or removed the breast physics were not popular.
Is it just me, or does one of Benimaru's attack grunts, sound EXACTLY like one of Raz's jump grunts in Psychonauts? I can't be the only one who hears this.
Even because high level 2d it s more expensive...once you create a character in 3d you can make him what you want... In 2d you have to draw him every time for every frame of animation. A lot of work...
I like fighting games and this is one of my favourites, although I only played it on android since I can't afford other stuff like ps2 or 4 or whatever and I'm still hoping that they give the mobile version a new update. Its pretty good!! I really like this version of a 2d fighting game a lot!!
This version seems to be the most sophisticated version of King of Fighters. For some reason, it doesn't suit King of Fighters as a 3D game. That's why I like King of Fighters with its sophisticated dot graphics the most.
The Sakazakis are Americans of Japanese heritage. That’s why their names are always written in Katakana and in the American order, name first, surname second.
Sadly this game can't get a proper remaster without serious work. The way SNK did the sprites (First make 3D models and then retouch the sprites by hand)

大門は上半身裸なので「呼吸をしてる感」がありありと出てますね。各キャラの動きに対応して体に映る影とかも芸が細かいです。
1:43「不知火舞に至っては1ループで16コマも画像が使用されている。」この16枚の画像のほとんどは……え?皆まで言うな?皆さんよくご承知ですよね。「94」でも舞の通常グラフィックの枚数を増やしたいと言ったのを許可したらああなった、という伝統ですね。
4:18「面白さ・キャラクター・リアルな世界観・ストーリー・音楽・お色気など」最後の要素、これ重要。今でこそ前面に出せなくなりましたがこのチャンネルの柱でもありました。お色気班の皆さん、見てますか?皆さんの情熱は無駄ではありませんでしたよ!

배경도 어차피 이미지 어레이에서 카메라 워크에 따라서 다음 번 프레임을 뭘로 그릴지 정해주는 규칙만 적절히 만들면.... 제한적인 움직임은 충분히 커버가 가능하니깐....... 저 세상 시네마틱 트레일러 퀄 겜이 요 장르에서는 쌉가능이다....는 생각

KOXIII sprites are not pixel art. They are prerendered 3D models and then redesigned as 2D sprites.
So amazing, will have to pick this up in appreciation for the passion and dedication put into it hehe

I still think 2D still better than 3D but the Arc System did a great job mixing both 2D and 3D.

ユリの腕と足の細さに対し頭の大きさなども好みの割れるところかもしれません。ただデザイナーさんは百も承知でこのスタイルを貫いたと思うので、そこは尊重したいなぁと思ってます。

ドットアニメを鑑賞する意味での1プレイ100円という価値観もしっかり持ってました。
94から全て、ネオジオとMVSで対戦し、リアルファイトに巻き込まれたり・・・w
良くも悪くも格ゲーで濃い時代を過ごさせてもらい、KOFには感謝のみ。
特にこの13は完成系でした。
もちろん旧作好きには筋肉がキモいとか女性キャラ骨格おかしいとかのツッコミはたくさんあったけど、私には13が至高です。
ゲーセンで対戦するのが好きでしたので、オンラインの無機質な感じは楽しく無くすぐやめちゃったなぁ。
3Dがそこまで好きでは無い人種にとってはドット文化がもっと芸術として讃えられるゲーム界隈になってたら・・とジジイは思うわけです。

個人的には一部視覚エフェクトがうるさいくらいで、いいじゃんって思ってたけど同志が少なかったのをよく覚えてる。。
まあでも今このレベルの描き込みで作れっつうのは需要供給と制作現場と予算的に無理だろうなと思う。比較なんかしないで同じ時代に出会えたことを大事に楽しむべき。
あと俺は14以降も、モーションのハッタリ感や緩急は健在だし(ないのもいるけどね)、ちゃんとkofしてると思う。楽しいよ。
