Only if you get the guaranteed money. He is not a great hitter and the majority of first round MLB 1st round picks are anonymous when you look back at drafts the last 10 years. I would make it less than 50% he make a lot more than his original contract, and may make MLB rosters for fielding and running not hitting. If he could play some and hit during for a month in the summer it would be a lot easier to choose football, if he is not a starter after 4 years he can go to baseball with some experience.

No offense to Joel klatt but I don't think this is an apples-to-apples comparison. Opportunity cost should definitely be taking in consideration in regards to long-term health and length of a career. yes it makes more sense in the short-term to go to the NFL but if the Major league baseball not only do stand a chance to make more money but not have to deal with long-term injuries. Strictly comparing monetary value to both I feel doesn't do this debate Justice what's your nothing but the best and hope he makes the right choice for himself

What? Joel was stating facts, IF Kyler wanted money upfront and soon, the NFL would be the better option because of the contracts and how things are distributed in the 1st round. Obviously, long term Baseball is the better option because of the guaranteed contracts (which Joel stated). He was stating facts, not speculations.

    • @michaelsklar5215

@Panda Knox that is a well thought-out post. 5'8 is the only factor that makes this somewhat of a decision. Baseball you play in the minors where you make nothing (and may not even get to the show), then 3 years at minimum salary. Then 4 years of arbitration...Kyler would wait 10 years until his next big payday with baseball and that's if everything goes well.

Don't think Murray would have success in the NFL. Forget his height and weight, I don't think he has the arm. He wouldn't have won the heisman if he played in the sec. Bama was the only legit defense he faced this yr and this isn't Saban's usual defense bc of losing so many players the last 2 years to NFL. In the regular season Murray had all day to throw against defenses that can't cover. Bama put pressure on him early and he was looking for the pass rush the rest of the game.
No doubt he is a very talented runner but it will be more difficult to run against faster NFL defenses. Bama's DB's dropped 2 interceptions and got their hands on 6 or 7 passes. His accuracy was off on many of his passes, some were just bad. If not for Bama's D losing some focus after up 28, making several costly penalties that extended some OU's drives, and using 4 downs a few times out of desperation, they wouldn't have had as many points as they did. If you watched the Bama game you can see Murray isn't on the same level as Tua as a passer.

Skip - In the long term - if/after Kyler plays in the NFL, he can take over his father's business training quarterbacks making $400 - $500 and up an hour. He will have guys tripping over themselves to train with him. Even if he only lasts 3-5 years in the NFL, his accomplishments will garnish him a hefty paycheck in speaking gigs, training quarterbacks... Here in Texas, every kid playing at all levels of football wants to be Kyler Murray.

Yawn @ the height stuff. Physical characteristics should come into considering with QBs once, maaaaybe twice in the process.
    1) At the beginning of the process: Does he meet the floor for being able to play
    2) At the end of the process: If ALL ELSE is equal, who is the bigger/better body type - but if one guy is a better QB, you pick the better QB, not the body.
At the end of the day, you're drafting a quarterback - not a body.
As far as what Murray should do... whatever he damn well wants!

Let’s remember that he is playing the quarterback position. While the nfl as a whole doesn’t make as much as the mlb, quarterbacks on a yeay basis are close. People sleep on Doug Flutie and how great he was at a small size. However they gave him heck about his size but when he played he was great. Greatest CFL player of all time and had a good nfl career. He proved his play was good in the NFL. Took the Bills to a deep playoff run and would’ve took the Bills to the Super Bowl before the coach benched him for Johnson. Who was 6’5. Guess what happen, they lost, Johnson was a bust and flutie’s coach says it was the owners choice and it was wrong. They would’ve been in the Super Bowl. That coach is named Wade Philips. Doug flutie was a former Heisman winner himself. Just a little story to educate the ones who don’t know!

Did Skip just say Murray could be as good as Russell Wilson? Wilson is becoming an all-time great and is the winningest QB through a QB's first 7 seasons. Slow ur roll jeez.

Thank God people, including Kyler's representation, are finally showing signs of understanding the economics of the MLB versus the NFL instead of just 'OMG LOOK AT WHAT BRYCE HARPER'S GONNA GET.'
It is very clear that if he's an easy first round QB, the NFL is the correct financial choice.

So he has a ton more earning potential in the MLB by a longshot seeing as how over 100 players have made over 100 mil vs just 29 in the NFL AND more importantly he is HUGELY less likely to end up with permanent brain damage (CTE), if he doesn't already have it, as a result of playing baseball vs the NFL? My only question is why would anyone play football if baseball was an option or basketball?

  • @jalenhall9140

He should play football because once he gets drafted in the first round he would go straight to the NFl and for everyone saying the money isnt good for rookies the first 4 years of there rookie contract is full there and if he goes to baseball he has to go through the minor leagues that doesnt pay well he wouldnt make good money until his 6th or 7th year in baseball by his 6th or 7th year in football he would be already done with his rookie deal and making 20 mill a year like matthew stafford and derrick car and guys like that . Also with injury quarterbacks dont get injured that often compared to lineman or runningbacks they have all those flags ( roughing the passer ) when ever someone gets close to a qb so he would be fine

if you are a multisport athlete i have no idea why you would want to play in the NFL. you will get hurt more, get payed less, and probably have a shorter career. It does not make sense to me, why you would choose football over baseball, or basketball.

baseball probably the better choice. only argument for football is if he get's injured early in either sport the initial money from football is higher so its better in the short term.
