Carlson on Monday published a new episode of The Tucker Carlson Show with podcaster Darryl Cooper. During their lengthy conversation, Cooper called Winston Churchill the “chief villain” of World War II and claimed the millions killed during the Holocaust were an unintended result of Germany taking in prisoners of war without being prepared to do so."

He also spent the first 90 minutes of that 26 hours describing how awful the pograms of Eastern Europe were for the Jews and how it created zionism. He also talks at another point in the series about the horrors of the h0l0caust. He clipped out 30 minutes of him from the series talking about the h0l0caust. It's pinned at the top of his Twitter page right now. He's not a denier.

I don't normally react, but as a Dutch person I find this horrendous. Every year we still remember those who have fallen on both sides an we honor those who perished in WWII. If he states it was by accident, he clearly has never heard of mein kampf, which provides pretty good insights in to the ideas they had. He is also leaving out the antisemitism, the Kristal nacht, the razzia's, the Jewish star, Jews had to wear. These were no incidents and accidents, it was a genocide. He should not be called an historian, he should spent a day in Auswitz, Berken Belsen, Vught or Westerbork and see what happened over here, so he should never forget. This so called historian is insulting everybody in Europe. He forgets that most people in Europe had grand parents who went through that hell for 5 years, living under that regime of fear and hate. He is also diminishing the heroic act of all Americans who came and landed on Normandie to liberate Europe.
Pro tip - don't believe everything you hear. Be skeptical of everything and fact check yourself. Especially if it means so much that you write a comment like this. The dude is known for his complete coverage of events and his podcasts on for events are like 10+ hours long. Fact checking this video, ie watching the full interview, I think you'll realize how much of the media is trying to manipulate peoples thinking. Listen to the beginning of the MadeAMartyr show, you'll realize he knows antisemitism probably better than most non-jews. Then listen to the rest of it, because I'm pretty sure you'll learn a lot. Then fact check what you listened to. Nobody gets special treatment until they earn it from you.
After doing so, come back and read your comment again, think of how effectively this video was able to make you falsely assume of him. This topic works peoples emotions so well, it's honestly disgusting to take advantage of that.
@@handy4874 The pro tip thing is a bit condescending, but ok. I listened to the whole Tucker Carlson interview. Can't really say I agree with his point of view. For example The Netherlands were neutral in world war II, just like in World War I. The Dutch wanted to stay out of this war, yet we were invaded. The Dutch, like the Belgians, Austrians, Czechs or Polish had shown no aggression towards Germany. Once we were occupied Jews were collected and sent to concentration camps (the same happened in all occupied Europe). People trying to protect Jews were either executed or sent to concentration camps. Men from age 17 and older were rounded up and sent to factories to work to help the war effort. My grand mother told me stories that even looking wrongly at a German SS officer could get you executed on the street. Close to the end of the war in the winter of 1944 the Germans destroyed parts the Dutch railways which lead to the biggest hunger winter in The Netherlands of the 20th century. All I want to say here is that the Nazis were horrific to the people they suppressed. I find Daryll Cooper's remarks a bit simple, saying that there were too many POW and there was no food. Indeed most POW ended up in working camps under poor conditions. The Nazis systemically killed Jewish people, there was entire logistical system in place. The Nazis knew full well what they were doing, but I agree there were soldiers who saw the atrocities and made note of it. The same happened in the camps.
I also disagree with his historic view. When Hitler rose to power France and the UK had a non aggression packed against Germany because they were unable to fight Germany. When Hitler rose to power he got Germany out of the economic crisis by building roads and a weapon industry. France and the UK didn't they were literally still recovering from the war. I don't know if you have ever been to France, but there are WWI memorials. When you drive through the small villages you can read the names of the fallen on those memorials. In many cases entire families lost all their men (husbands, brothers and sons). This is partly why France was not looking for war and when the war started the Blitzkrieg was a quick success. Not one country in Europe was able to fight the Germans at that point.
Another reason Chamberlain signed the treaty of München was because Chamberlain was ok with Hitler fighting the Communist threat. Not knowing he was providing Hitler the upper hand by strengthening his position in central Europe. he goal of the treaty was to prevent a war in Europe. In the end Germany violated the treaty by invading Czechoslovakia. The UK and France didn't react. Only when Germany invades Poland and violate the München treaty for a second time WWII breaks out.
The roots of WWII lay in WWI were the Germans were asked a reimburse both France and the UK for their losses in the war (Treaty of Versailles) , also large industrial parts of Germany, bordering France, were given to France. After WWI German citizens were treated as second class citizens by the France occupants. These occupied areas were a very sore sight for Hitler. It was the first thing he took back when he invaded France.
The UK declared the war on Germany when Germany invaded Poland. Germany had already taken Austria 1938 for Lebensraum , parts of Czechoslovakia 1939. This is when France and the UK start to understand Hitler had a large territorial ambition, he was mainly looking to the east of Europe. So when they invaded Poland the UK declared war on Germany. Their first intention was to avoid war.
The pamphlet he is referring to is "A last appeal to reason" this was dropped by a German plane over the UK. It wasn't much of a peace deal. The terms include that Germany have Slovakia and Poland and that the UK and France would not interfere with the Scandinavian countries and the Balkans (Eastern & Northern Europe, areas he wanted expand in). If they wouldn't agree to this he would throw everything he had to the UK and France. The UK and France didn't agree to those term. It wasn't much of a peace treaty, Hitler didn't want to be interfered in conquering Eastern Europe. The big question is could there ever have been peace between Germany, France and the UK. The answer is no as Germany violated the München treaty twice and so yes, WWII was a fact.
So may be it is just a matter of interpretations, but this is what we learn at school of how WWII happened. In Europe this historic knowledge is important to us and we are vigilant on interpretations that Nazis didn't mean do do what they did or that they were even looking for peace in the right sense of the word. The treaty of München was never about peace, it was Hitler would have not invaded Poland and rest of Czechoslovakia.
So I think I know my fact from a European point of view, but of course you are entitled to a different opinion. This is what is so great about democracy. I hope you have a really nice week end Handy

The counter factual is what would have happens if Britain would not have give a war guarantee to Poland? Which he admits that part of not Churchils fault. But Churchill wanting the war, prolonging the war, expanding the war makes the arguably “ somewhat hyperbolically” the biggest villain of WW2.

The historian seems to be talking about Operation Barbarossa specifically, not the Holocaust generally. He specifically mentions “Barbarossa,” “Eastern front” invasion of 1941, and the unexpected war of attrition during the winter of that operation. It’s sad that “cancel culture” is such that we can clip a segment and mass cancel conversation. Not saying I agree with him, just that people are misattributing this viral clip.
He is dead wrong either way. Germans were not surprised that they captured POW, they fully expected that since whole operation rested on an assumption that in 3 months Red Army's Western Front must cease to exist.

This is odd because I know Daryl from his first podcast series about the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict and while it's open to being criticized for it's historical accuracy (and has been) I found it to be very empathetic to both sides. It's like 22h long and at no point did I, even for a second, get the impression that he is an antisemite. In fact I refuse to believe it. He never downplayed the impact of the Holocaust in that series or anything like that. I used to subscribe to his substack but stopped because I didn't like his take on the Ukraine war so maybe he's just slowly gone crazy like many people seem to have over the last few years, I don't know. I can't stand Tucker Carlson so I'm dreading the thought of having to listen to a 2h long podcast of his but I feel like I have to because everyone is talking about this and their takes are all in direct conflict with what I thought was true. TYT has a bit of a history of this (they slandered Sam Harris many years ago, which is when I stopped taking them seriously) so maybe it's history repeating itself here. After all they literally did just show a clip of him saying that the Nazis were not the good guys and yet immediately acted like he was saying the opposite. It often feels like nobody is capable of nuance these days.
EDIT: Just watched the whole interview. Yep, it was what I thought. This is 100% a bullshit story. The two clips shown (including the one where he specifically says that he is NOT saying that the the Nazis are the good guys) are the most "controversial" part of the whole thing. He's not a fascist, he's not denying the holocaust. He's just being empathetic towards the Nazis and trying to understand the war from their perspective. You can dislike that approach, bury your head in the sand and pretend that the Germans of the 30's and 40's were all psychopathic evil robots or something, if that helps you sleep at night, I guess, but that doesn't make him a fascist or holocaust denier. And you can criticize him for being historically inaccurate but I don't see how that would trigger the level of emotion that we see from Cenk and Anna here. This is pathetic. It's clearly just one of those *someone said he was a fascist and I watched a 30 sec clip so I guess that's the truth, let's run with it* stories. What a joke. He literally follows up the statement about the Nazis being unprepared for all those millions of POW's by saying whatever the reason was, they were still morally culpable for their deaths. At no point did he even come close to excusing or defending them. The only objection to his point is on historical grounds for being inaccurate, but that would require any of these people actually knowing what the fuck they're talking about. But if you can't count on them to watch a 2h long podcast to get the proper context for something then how can you expect them to know history? Shame on all you liars.

Nah, not even close. WWII history as it is presented now is full of exaggerations and propaganda meant for the cold war. Not saying Nazi apologists are right or anything. Just that I don't trust the winners who were already in conflict with each other immediately after the end of the war to come up with a accurate depiction of the events. I can assure you the history of the colonial conquest of the American continents was very much different in the centuries that immediately followed as opposed to what is taught today.

I'm Slavic and people from my background were targeted for murder. It was official ideology that Slavs need to be genocided in order to make space for Aryans to live. It was the official plan. But this 'historian' says: "when they went into the east, they launched a war where they were unprepared to deal with the millions of prisoners of war and political prisoners. They had no plan for that". He then goes on to say that it was more humane to have them murdered instead of allowing them to starve to death.
In other words: he's saying the resulting murder of the Slavs was simply an accident. A mistake. A result of terrible planning. He's denying that it was done on purpose, denying it was the official plan, and saying it was simply a "mistake" instead. A result of bad planning. That's how apologetics for monsters works.
For example, to this day there's still some Slavs and communists that defend Stalin. When they defend Stalin, they do not deny that Stalin killed people. They do not deny that that Stalin did evil. Instead they phrase it in ways like "Stalin made mistakes" (instead of acknowledging that his evil was intentional and purposeful). They say people under Stalin starved simply because of bad economic planning. Cause of mistakes. Instead of acknowledging it was purposefully done by Stalin.
Now let me ask you: what do you think of someone saying "yes Stalin was a bad man. Yes Stalin did much evil. Stalin made mistakes. However...he didn't purposefully murder that many people. He just made some mistakes. People starved due to mistakes in his economic planning, not cause he killed people on purpose"? Does that not seem like apologetics for Stalin to you? Or if a communist throws in a line like "yes I know Stalin did evil" while denying that Stalin killed people on purpose and phrasing it as "Stalin made mistakes", does that mean they're no longer defending Stalin just cause they threw in the "I know he was evil" line?

Jews weren't shoved into camps and systematically murdered because the Nazis didn't have a "plan" on how to deal with prisoners of war. For fck's sake. Between 1939 and 1941, Jews were systematically deprived of their property and their ability to work. This was before the invasion of Poland. Jews weren't marked with a Star of David because Hitler didn't have a "plan" on how to deal with prisoners of war. And the deportations of *Jews from Germany* to ghettos and camps weren't because Hitler didn't have a "plan" on how to deal with prisoners of war. The final solution was *NOT* an act of kindness. Cooper couldn't be more of an Nazi apologist.

And the tweet that Ana lied about, I challenge you to make sense of it. Tell me what you need to understand to get the joke. I'll tell you now:

History is written by the victors and it shows. We shouldn't excuse the evil of the Nazi party, but we shouldn't hide the fact that 'our guys' were also doing bad things.
It shouldn't be a competition of who was 'most evil'. We should just all agree that many things that happened around WWII were bad and we should do anything in our power to prevent things like that from happening ever again. Currently, we suck at that quite bad if you look at Ukraine, Israel, etc....

The American high command during WWII did many bad things too, especially in the pacific. If we talk about the Soviet POW that died in German camps... let's also talk about how many Japanese were captured by the Americans... just look at the death rates of Japanese soldiers, it's insane. But there was this 'rule' that you couldn't take them prisoner, they were just shot. The US burned/bombed entire Japanese cities with nukes/fire bombs causing hundreds of thousands of civilians to die.
And crazy guys like Patton and Eisenhower even wanted to use MORE nukes if that's what it took.
War makes people do horrible things. Yes. The SS was evil, as was the Nazi party. But not the entire Wehrmacht was bad and yes there were so many prisoners on the eastern front that it was impossible to save all of them. We are talking about MILLIONS of POW's, MILLIONS! The Germans also hired many of them into their own army, btw. Yes, there were Ukrainian/Russian people working for the German army. But better that, than dying, I guess? These guys were treated horribly by the USSR after the war, which makes it extra sad.
(and yes: I am aware that the Japanese did treat their POW's awful, I am not excusing them AT ALL).

It is just sad the current state politics are in the US. Nobody seems to be genuine anymore. It's a filthy war and the lower class is suffering from it, torn apart by social/moral/cultural issues that in the grand scheme of things don't actually matter that much compared to a sustainable and durable economy that works for everyone.

Churchill was out in the cold, he warned that Hitler would invade Poland etc. Chamberlain and Lord Halifax tried to appease Hitler (Allowing him to take 'German speaking' land in Czechoslovakia to secure peace in Europe) Hitler bloke the peace deal by invading Britain's ally Poland, so we had no choice but to declare war against Germany. He provides the most thorough and unbiased accounts of history when you listen to the full series he puts out. It's not surprising they take clips, they don't have the attention span to listen to several 3 hour long podcasts for the full stories. Cooper has read hundreds of books on each of his series and it's actually quite amazing. I learned more about Isreal/Palestine from a single episode in his series than I did from anyone else.
