- Here is a short video walking through the Organ Loft in Minneapolis MN. The 123 rank 10,000 Pipe "Voice of Minneapolis" is the largest pipe organ built by the W.W. Kimball Co. of Chicago. In 1929 it was installed at the Minneapolis Auditorium, which is where the Minneapolis Convention Center now stands. Restoration was funded, but not yet totally completed.
I was a member of the team that removed this organ and placed it into storage back in 1988. I still remember the 32' wood pipes that I could fit down inside. It is and was an amazing instrument that is sadly being neglected over bureaucratic BS. I hope to see it in its new location and playing before I die.
I also helped with that. With what are the priorities in Mpls today, don't hold your breath on it ever being restored.
@@fjbill ... I know I have gotten updated from my foster father who was part owner of Newton Pipe Organ Services at that time. It is rather sad that they have taken such an amazing instrument and just ignore its majestic uniqueness and it may never be heard again. I also remember crawling inside one of the 32' wood pipes. Those are huge and the rumble those pipes made in the old Civic Center.
That organ can’t just keep sitting in pieces like that. Something has to be done
Hi everyone. I am very interested to know Mr. Schatt. It would be nice to go and have a look at it these days. I used to help take care of it, and then helped to crate it up and store it. All my sources say it's impossible to get in as management wants nothing to do with it. I have many many pictures of the way it was and some recordings, and video of it playing back in the 80s. As far as I know, work ground to a halt when money ran out and legal proceedings began.
where is this organ located
It's disassembled and in storage at the current Minneapolis Convention Center. 0% operational.
If it can be done in Atlantic City…
When was the funding granted for restoration? It will be exciting to see this instrument get playing again.
It would be nice to see it restored and playing..why would management not want it playing..?... its a nat treasure..im share theres a theatre somewhere without an organ i know many in chicago..the uptown theatre in uptown..is getting ready to be restored..to it 1920s grand old days 3000 seat theatre..poss new home.the arcade theatre in st.charals il..is going through restoration..its marr and colton is getting a restore as we speak..i wish u ..luck in its future..god bless
This short video was just a tease! If the person behind the camera had taken more time & held the camera steady & added comments about the organ its location in the auditorium, exterior views of the chamber grills, the console, general views of the auditorium itself & the auditorium from the street; we would have a clearer picture of the organ. From what I have heard Kimball Pipe work both Flue & Reed was outstanding!
Where is the restoration as of 2019?
