I has been 16 years , but I am still learning from your videos! You're the best teacher.
You are so cheerful & warm it makes it much easier to learn :)
Yes! I love how you incorporate all the additional moves and variations. Very helpful and inspiring
thank you man you have just filled in a little hole in my brain! so much love!
I don't know why I didn't come here first when looking for an isolation tutorial. Don't get me wrong, I love DrexFactor, but I feel like you break things down into so many smaller bits. Thank you for another amazing tutorial!!! :D
I LOVE the concept of exiting a stall in a different direction than you entered it. I just started playing with it about a month ago and it just allows for some crazy patterns.
I love the way you teach.
Making analogies to things we already know the movements of helps a lot.
haha
It’s really beautiful that you are just as passionate here as you are in your newer videos. Thanks for sharing your poi wisdom as always 🙌🏼 mid learning iso’s as we speak
Hey ppl. This is a great tut. After you have learned to isolate with each hand, you should exercise the movement around 5'09". That shot is really genius and helped me lots!! Thanks Nick.
Fantastic lesson! I really love the surreal look of the stalls, especially when they're done with lit poi. I can't wait for the weather to warm a bit so I can start practicing!
You're amazing teacher. IT'S A GIFT.
I have been having trouble getting "folding" down with hula hoops and this move looks just like it. I want to take up poi to help me with my hooping. I had a go this week with some oranges in socks and doubles hooping has given me a head start with poi!
Very cool! And I love the way you always have a big grin on your face in your vids. Thanks Nick!
thank you so much i have been trying to find a tutorial on isolations yu have helped me alot hope to get good and show you my progress
When you start to show the different stalls (around 4:30 ), it looks like the video is being put on reverse a bunch of times. It looks funny and I can't wait to do them.
Thanks for the tutorial.
What an INCREDIBLE lesson! Thank you so much.
I don't comment on UA-cam often... But when I do it's because someone is awesome! These videos are just a joy to watch and learn from. I'm addicted! You are a great teacher and send good vibes. Thanks for taking the time to make all these videos!
its for sure possible :) ill be displaying it as this weekends rave
Your great. You inspire me so much
you're*
Priceless
We love you Nick..
you're awesome Nick!!
a great teacher for sure
ThanxLots 4 that tut! Excellent shot around 5'09" Never seen that angle. Helped me to understand that move completely. Very funny explanation: "...and you try to stir the soup around the poi" - LOL
@multuminparvo Length is up to the artist. Arm's length is common, but it's really up to you. Try shortening your leashes to see if you like it any better. Mine are about half the length of my arm, and most people I practice with have theirs about that length as well.
If you like the long leash but want to buzzsaw more comfortably, try wrapping the chain around your hands once or twice prior to moving into the buzzsaw.
Omg ive been doing this with long link chains for years just messing around. If i had put a weight on the end i could be a master by now.
Man practicing isolations has really built my shoulders up, you know what you could make poi a type of exercise that is actually fun. Maybe even get professional athletes on board, I mean football players do ballet to build up their core and balance, why not teach quarterbacks some weaves or flowers???
i love this watching this video and listening to "over and over" by hot chip
you are a great teacher!!!
"Stir the soup, bring it up, isolations..... We're on a boat." That made the video for me.
If the string on the poi is too long, it makes it harder because you have to make too large a circle with your arm. However, I found this extremely easy to do. It's also a lot like lassoo lasoo lasso (SP?)
AAAAAARRRRRGGG!!! you make it look so simple!!! lol... I've learned a lot tho. thx... cheers from México!!!
Very helpful for my isolations, but the thing i really learned from this video is i actually suck at poi, where as before watching this i thought i was a doing good.
doood,, your right its easy now.......thanks bro
your a bloody legend
I love your videos, thanks!
I used to do Isolations, with my 2 foot long key chain, at the metro stops, & it would scare the shit out of people waiting on the bus. But I still do really well with it.
Thank you... most people these days think this all spawned from EDM. Glowsticking has most definitley had an influence on both the popularity and the moves that people create, but
It's hard to know where to go, if you dont know where you came from.
You make it all look so smooth. And your pants are sweet.
K so i have isolations pretty much down and if you were wondering like i was, isolations ARE much easier with heavy poi. still doable with glowsticks if your l33t enough :p
amazing! thanks!
thank you so much. you're so cool
You are a wizard. I swear. I can't do this.
wow your stalls look so so so goo, when you stat there and just did continues stalls my head was trippin so bad :P
Isolations make me feel like I'm looking at a strobe light.
Wish you were in the US. Don't know where to find lessons like these here. :(
thank you so much.. you're so cool.
I love you best video lessons around :)
yo dude this is a great tutorial man. hey is there a huge difference between poi and glowsticking? if so please explain thanks.
Stir the soup!
Brilliant‼
@aniki91344 it took me at least a month of practicing everyday to get it down. It also depends what you're using. Glowsticks are hard because of how light they are. try a set of poi balls if you haven't yet. It helped me a lot and now i finally have it down.
haha the poi spinning like that made my eyes hurt :')
So I can isolate with each hand trouble getting both hands to isolate simultaneously.
you.are.magic.
the legend says if you are sober, then your pois skills will raise up and you will become the master of the poi
Watching this in 2013 and learning perfectly and im also stoned off some purp. fuck yeah >.
@TazlorTirenna yeah nothing ruins a good spinning session like a shot in the nads
Thanks
hey you posted this on my birthday 3 years ago : ) What kind of poi are those?
Ahhh! I can get the feel for it vertically like stirring soup but when I bring it up horizontal I end up doing extensions.. Would more weight make it easier? I have 70g beanbags in my sock poi but I'm thinking of getting some 95g under-filled juggling balls
amazing!!!
legend
do you mean your plane isn't straight? if so go towards a wall and have the poi avoid the wall helping you to keep the poi straight
really nice👌
heh yea mon i would but all my soccer sox are friggin well worn and shaped, i figure its a good idea to have a straight sock, or does the heal bend not make a difference? anyways thanks for the feedback.
genio!!
I have what might be a silly question, but anyhoo...
What effect does the weight/type/length of string of the poi have isolations?
The poi im using have really long strings (too long for buzzsaw long) and a heavy end in comparison to the rather light string. Ive been having quite a bit of trouble doing isolations, but they become soooo much easier when I shorten the string around my finger.
So any answers? :-)
i always wondered, can u do this with glowsticks too or does it only work with POI's?
out here in 2020 trying to become a poi master
OK, I have a question for you... how long is your poi. I got mine at just arm's length, up to my armpits right? but most of the people I see performing with them seem to be much shorter.. I am using fire poi.. two finger handles and chains, but moves like the buzzsaw seem a little close for comfort with this length. What do you recommend?
i have a couple things to say. first what was that group at the begining of the video? it looked like a spiners paridice. i want to go. second, i still suck at isolations..
So after like, 4 weeks of constant practice, I got my right hand to do isolation alright, not great, but passable... my left hand handles it a little under passable... but it's got the right idea... When I try to do isolation with both hands however, my brain begins to malfunction, and my left hand spins the poi at full blast while my right hand slowly loses concentration and loses the isolation... How long did it take everyone else? Am I the only shmo having trouble with this?
hey meenik i know this is kind of a nub question but im trying this with glow sticks and i am blaming the failure on the weight of the glowstick. should i invest in some sock poi to learn these?
)))) Man))) You are just great)))
yooo reall shit what do u do for a living I watch mad of ur videos and ur always somewhere awesome as fuk and u will forever be better then I at spinin tooo you r the shitt mannnnneee
lol superduper spinny- what?
XD glowstringers just call them orbitals =P
how heavy are pois compared to glowsticks?
i was just wondering if the weight makes it easier..
mmm! i'm making Poi Soup tonight!
well its just i havent seen any glowstringers do it so Im just wondering if it's possible.
well for me, it's a bit of Extra 'saftey' room (like an Air bag?) better the Poi and my "Family Jewels".
That and they're Comfy but at the end of the day: spin what you're comftable in. that's what matters
This is one of the weirdest looking guys I have ever seen, yet he is a genius. He reminds me a lot of my figure drawing teacher, Krieg.
hola
en algún sitio existen estos vídeos con subtitulo al español :)
there is some video where u teach how to build that kind of poi :P???
you rock man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)
i want your trousers :D i still find isolations almost impossible tho D:
@squirrelman26 practice is always worth it.
Trippy 2007 framerate is trippy.
they need to put nick in a mortal combat game fighting with his poi haha :]
The single isolation on both hands actually worked after ...I guess 10 minutes...but the part of putting both hands together was kind of a disaster xD
from what material are your pois of? and what length? :)
@foxinsocks506 thanks, I do this, but it still pains me, is there a site for any kind of hand- arm brace type thingy for these problems... that and burning the fool outta yourself whilst spinning fire?
what are your poi's made of? Is it a ball in a sock or tights? Im Maori...I find this interesting :-) Is poi dancing an artform to make the pois look pretty and make patterns? I have been using the poi in Maori dance since I could hold them...we have four different sort of poi ...double short poi, single long, double long and four poi although the last (4 poi) is really just two actions..the butterfly and the forward and back. Do these pois in the video come in different sizes?
I’m maori also I believe they have modernised our culture as we are the original poi dancers. They also have led poi
oh thanks i cant do it since i watch this jeje
those pants make me laugh lol. but *ahem good isolations sir. stir that pot!
i like it
Isolations aaaaahgghga! Why don't they work for me? But, OK, this video is really good.
5:29- 5:32 OMG! How i can do this? friends learn me this but i still don't get this!:(
@multuminparvo Has Voltar been adequately portained?
Put spikes on the poi and you have an epic martial arts movie idea
why wouldnt it work with glowsticks?
those are hard for me to do! but i suppose it'll take more than 15 minutes of practice lol :p
lol...WE'RE ON A BOOOAAAT!
