Wonderful review and i have four PLP pens, I'm fortunate that he is my neighbourhood and both PLP and Satish are extremely nice people and will cater to your customization and needs. I sit with him sometimes as he makes pens and its mesmerizing.. Also if you notice that ASA or gama pens have some commonality its because these people are OEM makers for them.. they keep making and experimenting new designs and keep looking for more of their stuff .its promising
@@thewetpen yes indeed... He made new body for my dad's very old functional pen but with cracked bodies.. .with ebonite...and he's turning some custom resins for me.. I go and sit with them post my stressful ER duty and have a nice chat while watching them make pens...
Matthew, I am so happy that you made a video on PLP Handmade Pens. I bought a Scenic Ebonite from them a few months ago and wanted to make a video (which would have been my first), but have been so busy with work and things at home that I never had the chance. I love that pen and should send another order his way. I am happy they added PayPal as they had another system back then. It is an excellent father-son team. Wonderful video. Thanks for showing some of the other pens as well. Have a good week!
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who enjoys their pens :-) The Scenic is probably my favorite of this batch, although I think that I prefer the ebonite of my 008... so I ordered another Scenic with that ebonite. Enjoy your pens, and don't let my video stop you from making your own! I'd watch it :-)
@@thewetpen My main goal was just to spread the word that PLP is quality and that people should not be afraid to order from them, as they seemed like a newish operation online. Maybe I should just enjoy my pen ... and enjoy ordering a few others. I am so happy they have the Jowo option since I can't imagine filling that Jumbo pen full of ink. I write a lot, but can only imagine that one burping :). In any case have a good week.
Very cool finds. Love the colors you choose, especially that first brown one. I agree that some decoration on the nibs would really elevate the pens appeal. Thanks for sharing new pen brands with us and as always, a wonderful video.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I really appreciate your review style and that you showcase fountain pens and related products which do not appear on other channels. If it were not for you, I would not know that such great products exist. Thank you 🖖
Excellent find. The pen maker, Mr Lakshmipathy, is one of the best in the trade and has been making pens for numerous outlets for decades. I have a few Woodex handmade ebonite pens, which is made in Hyderabad. Do check them out.
A good review, focused on the important points, no unnecessary talk. When I look at the prices of some other Indian manufacturers, and their western retailers and then compare them with PLP, I always come back to my suspicion that some of these manufacturers just want to make outrageously high profits only with a lot of marketing talk. Jm2c.... Anyway, PLP is now on my radar.
What lovely pens! I just ordered a few. BTW my wife thought you had a lovely voice, and asked what you looked like :)! So in a future video can you not be shy and show your face!
I can't wait for the Woodex pens to arrive :-) I just got two others from Elica, which are also very nice... but more expensive. They'll show up here on my channel sometime!
I am unfamiliar with PLP pens until this video, but given that my company is PLP Composites, I'll have to give them a try! If they're as good as you say at those prices, they would seem quite a bargain! (P.S. - I hope you are considering making more of your inks. I love Deception Pass and Gas Works particularly - thanks!)
Hey Daniel, these pens do seem like a good fit for you :-) I will be making more inks in the near future, but I probably can't make my inkvent videos and make inks also... just not enough ours in the day. But we'll see :-) January, at the latest!
i love your videos! i am going through a rough time these days but your videos always give me joy!!! please continue like this! also i will go to india in 10 days!!! i'll spend atleast 100 dollars on indian fountain pens cause they are awesome says my mom!!
A nice review of another nice looking Indian brand of pens. I think a Jumbo is calling my name! After your video on the Mammoth X I went to check it out on their site, and alas it showed as not being available. I checked again this past Tues., and now a Red Swirl model is on its way!! The Green Swirl remains out of stock. Have a great weekend Mathew.
I checked their site this week, too, and was surprised to see that the Mammoth X was on the site already. I like the red, so that one may be in my future, too 🙂
@@thewetpen As an update, my Mammoth X red swirl arrived Tues.! It is a big pen, but compared to my Ranga Model 5 it is slightly shorter, and a hair smaller in diameter. What seems truly massive on the pen is that Kanwrite nib!! It is quite the wet writer as well. It definitely didn't disappoint!!
@@zeus52452 Thanks for the update and I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it! The original Mammoth is a bit longer and more in line with the Model 5, I believe.
@NwinDii Hmm. I bought 2 more with PayPal just last week with no problems. Temporary? Actually, I seem to recall that they only accept PayPal from the US and Australia... not sure where you are.
Hi, currently we are been facing a temporary technical issue with the payment gateway and our team is working on it. Will provide an email update as soon as possible once its resolved. Sorry for the inconvenienced caused. Thank You
Thank you for this excellent overview. I was going to order the Kanwrite Mammoth X, but now I am not so sure. I like the size of the Jumbo Model which I think could easily handle a #8 nib but at the price for the pen, I cannot quibble. I never heard of this brand but it is certainly worth the investigation. I understand shipping costs may be a bit high, though.
The Jumbo model is certainly large enough to accept a #8 nib, and I suspect that if you have a #8 nib unit in mind, PLP would probably custom thread the grip section for it, too... and you could get two of them for the price of a Mammoth X (whare are now available on the Kanwrite website). from both companies, shipping is not cheap... but PLP charges a flat shipping fee of 1600 rupees to the US, so it's not terrible if you're ordering multiple pens.
PLP makes good simple pens. I have almost all PLP models. They also make pens in Schmidt 5/6 threading. I have the same plp jumbo with Jinhao 1909 8 nib house threading. I felt 6 nib too small for the jumbo pens. Currently I was discussing with them on bock 6 threading. They can also customise based on need depending on feasibility and effort for customisation. PLP ASA and Woodex make best affordable ebonite pens for indian market. I wish you to review Woodex fountain pen next time. You can get some review in Pen Delight channel.
I'm attempting to order some Woodex pens now, though ordering to the USA appears to be more difficult than I had hoped. With any luck, I'll find someone who will ship to the US soon!
Nice video. But, for Velon, I will stick to my Nauka. Not PLP. As the design is almost same, I am not willing to spend extra bucks for same pen from another house.
Thanks :-) If you can get a Nauka easily, that's great... especially if you can get it in India. In the US, a Nauka costs $65 ordered from ASA, and the ASA website is hopelessly neglected and no pens are available there... so the PLP is a great option at a much lower price.
@@thewetpen, I am from India. Yes, I got my Nauka from Subbu Sir. I will inform your view about ASA website to him. Usually, if I decide to have any ASA model, I directly contact with Subbu Sir. I will definitely inform him about your point of view.
@@MAHUADATTA80 I also order directly from him 🙂 Unfortunately, most casual pen buyers in the US don't know that that's an option, so they check the website and see that all of the pens are listed as "Sold Out" and just forget about it. (My next video is about a couple of ASA Pens).
Great review as usual, I am from India and even I didn’t know about them before. Just one question though, you tried replacing the Jowo unit with a Kanwrite nib unit. Is this Kanwrite nib unit the one which is compatible with their Heritage/Legacy models, or is it the Kanwrite unit specifically modified to fit Jowo threading? I understand that Kanwrite sells both kinds of nib units. Did you eventually get better ink flow after some tinkering? Are the PLP pens with ambitious nibs replaceable with Kanwrite or Jowo nib units? I am a big fan of fancy nibs like BBB and cursive italics which are only produced in India by Kanwrite but I love the design and fit and finish of these PLP pens. I am hoping to get the best of both worlds in some way.
The BB nib that I tested here was removed from the Heritage unit that it came in and added into a JoWo unit that I already owned, although some companies (like Kiwi) sell Kanwrite units already in JoWo compatible nib units. I haven't gone back to that nib for additional testing yet, but I have successfully used Kanwrite nibs in JoWo feeds in the past, so I expect that I'll get it to work properly. The PLP pens with replaceable nib units are all JoWo, although I suspect that they'd customize a pen for you with Bock or Kanwrite threads if you request it, perhaps at a cost... I don't know if the Ambitious nibs are in removeable units, and nibs of that sort can be touchy enough that I don't want to mess with mine and find out 🙂Often they require a heat-set to be reliable, and I don't want to have to re-set them. Good luck!
Your review intrigued me but after trying to contact PLP ( 3 times!) for some clarifications, they have not bothered to respond. If this is indicative of customer service, I am immediately leery.
It's currently Diwali (the biggest holiday in India), so it's likely that they're taking some time off. It's typically a 6 day celebration. They've always been very responsive when I've emailed them, so I'm guessing it's just that (or maybe the holiday rush). I'd recommend giving them a few more days before making any conclusions.
Hmm. 3.5 turns? I much prefer the more dashing 3 turns and 1/8-1/4. 3 and 1/2 is just boorish. Quite like the people that don't spear their peas when eating them, instead they scoop them with a spoon like a peasant.
I am currently using 2 fountain pens from PLP, they are fantastic fountain pens to write with and enjoy writing with them. Well done PLP team.
