BTW: I would rather watch your videos than go to the theater to watch a Hollywood movie. Watching your channel, I can laugh, while learning something valuable for my woodturning hobby! Keep up the valuable and entertaining videos!!!
Out of all the woodturning videos watched, I have to say that Ronald and his lovely cam girl bring a great sense of humour for my entertainment. Not to mention the unique approach to the craft.
I just found your channel tonight & you bring a fresh approach which had me hooked from the start, so "I'll Be Back" ....... top marks to your camera "Person" & your dog looks as chilled out as mine.
What an interesting video & I love the end result. When you are sanding, you finish off with some 'pads'. I am wondering what they are exactly. Again I love your relaxed commentary & I love the banter that goes on between you & the lady doing the video work. It makes a great contribution to the end product. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
Very cool. I made a large square platter recently, took a lot of concentration and tool control to do the wings, but a great learning experience. Thanks for sharing Ronald.
Full disclosure, I don't even own a lathe yet, but I'm hoping some of my machinist experience comes through. When you punched the center to drill for the screw you used a Brad tip drill bit. The Brad tip may have been off a bit as it was not fully engaged in the wood. Also the outside edge of the drill bit could cause some ' walking'. If using a Brad tip, I would use it to it's full Capacity and not punch a hole. Love your work. First time view. Thanks
Nicely turned. Nicely produced, except I don't much care for the music. I like hearing your commentary and the sound of the lathe is music enough. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Ronald I’ve just found your channel, matey your a joy to watch I’ve subbed and can’t wait to catch up on your videos. I cant believe you only have 5.7 subscribers so far the whole production comes across as if you have been doing videos for years ❤
What a great doube act! Not only a good instructional video but also very entertaining. Who should get the greatest accolade? The one in front of the camera or the one behind?
Love your format keeped my attention all the way to the end with out my attention waving as in some other videos will be using your channel to help me with my turning as I've recently got give an old lathe.
Hi, great video and not seen this done before, I'll give it a try, good to try somthing new. Just before watching this I had my dinner, tasted great with salt from salt shaker I turned from your design/video. Keep up the great work.
Aha. So you turned the ARS into a square bowl! ARS? The Armpit Refreshment System! Thanks again Ronald & Lies. It is always fun to watch your videos and beside that, very educational as well! Take care, stay safe.
I really enjoyed the video. Like others, I will have to try it. In the states, a lot of people will put a paper bag between the glue pieces for easy separation. Don't know if that would be good for you or not. I also subscribed to your channel.
Hi Joseph, a piece of paper will do the job as wel. You can spilt it wth a chisel then. I glued it up the day before so I knew for 100% sure that it would not split while turning. Because I have a bandsaw it is no problem for me to divide the piece in two but, more important, Lies is much of the time in the "wood flying zone" with her camera...
Hi Ronald, just found and subscribed to your channel. What a refreshing approach you have to wood turning. Ideas are innovative and videos are informative. I'll certainly be copying this idea if that's OK. Thank you.
I imagine it would be much more difficult to make it square on the inside as well (in the same sense as it is square on the outside). How would one even do that apart from using a cnc?
I have learned lots from this video. I think part of the key is the long jaw calipers. Where did you get these from? Does the block of wood have to be a cube before turning?
@@ronaldkanne I'm on a mission to make a set of these. I very rarely buy turning stock, but may have to as it would require kiln dried wood. I've found a shop on Etsy that sells 6x6x3 inch kiln dried blanks. And I ordered an inexpensive big thing!
I loved your presentation . What timber did you use , red pine , spruce , fir ? What does it look like with finish ? I wear a nice pair of wrap around , bi - focal safety glasses . An old industrial arts professor told our class that steel bits can be removed be the Trauma doctors with a magnet , but wood shards require a knife and forceps , be safe , and may the grain be with you
Thank you Gary. I will remember the professors words, but i won't start working with metal because of the easier to remove shards...🙂... i don't know the exact type of wood unfortunately...
@@ronaldkanne "the sound" when you first turn on the lathe 1:35 to 1:42. I bookmarked your video...but I will make a smaller bowl first, in case I screw up. Ronald: thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful piece's. I got myself a lathe but nowhere to set up shop. We have a shop room in our building but the landlords won't let us use it. We all live on a budget and they're charging us for parking gardening and large items that we put in the huge garbage bin. So I am thinking that these so called christian landlords haven't figured out how much to charge for the use of the workshop. I got it because they were talking about opening it up and I wanted to start making walking sticks.
Hi Wilton, Thank you for sympathizing so deeply with my hairstyle. I immediately admit that combing my hair hasn't really been at the top of my priority list for the last 35 years. I clearly put less effort into it than, for example, making a video. In order not to test your peace of mind too much in the coming days, I can also report that 3 days after we recorded the video I went to the hairdresser again. The hair has been washed a number of times since, but unfortunately still not combed. Sorry... :-)
Ronald, You MUST bring your photographer into one of your tutorials. She is a HOOT!!

love your explaning on the turning aswell. thank u
As we say when crocheting, it is the imperfections that show it is made by hand and not a robot. Great job.
But if i had picked the right type of drill it would still have been handmade and looking better.. 😊

Красивая работа , дело мастера боится 👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful! I am so jealous sitting here with my mini lathe watching you with that massive lathe!
But you can do this on a small lathe as well! :-)
Well I will definitely try. I just worry that it will be too unstable and will knock my lathe off the table.
I am definitely waiting for a class to become available! Love this
That will probably be the bowl course Christine, but a square bowl is not in it... 😅
