Scale ModelWorld 2023 in Telford

- Meine Reisefreudigkeit im Namen des Modellbaus habe ich dieses Jahr bereits mehrmals unter Beweis gestellt. Nach Besuchen von Ausstellungen in Deutschland, Ungarn, Belgien, Österreich und Frankreich ging es zum Abschluss noch nach England, um dort die berühmte Scale ModelWorld in Telford einmal mit eigenen Augen sehen zu können. Die Messe gilt schließlich als eine der größten ihrer Art weltweit!
Die Reise verlief absolut problemlos und meine gewiss hohen Erwartungen wurden alle mehr als nur erfüllt - ich denke nicht, dass ich jemals zuvor mehr gebaute Modelle an eine Ort versammelt gesehen habe als in Telford, noch dazu in solcher Qualität! Die Bilder in diesem Video sprechen für sich. Dabei war neben den Meister-Modellbauern auch noch Platz für diejenigen, welche das Hobby auf einem fortgeschrittenem Niveau betreiben, selbst einige Anfänger scheuten sich nicht, ihre Werke dort auszustellen.
Besonders gut gefallen hat mir die Tatsache, dass trotz der wirklich beeindruckenden Größe der Veranstaltung der soziale Aspekt ganz und gar nicht unter den Tisch fällt. Das mag zu einem guten Teil auch an der sehr offenherzigen Mentalität der Briten liegen, denn überall kam man sehr leicht mit den Leuten ins Gespräch. So konnte ich neben den Treffen mit meinen alten Freunden auch einige neue Bekanntschaften schließen.
Das enorme Händlerangebot führte selbstverständlich auch dazu, dass der Geldbeutel um einige "Pfund" erleichtert wurde, aber glücklicherweise hatte ich einen ausreichend großen Koffer zur Verfügung, um alles sicher nach Hause zu schaffen. Dazu aber mehr in einem künftigen Kanal-Update.
Ihr merkt schon, es hat mir dort ausgesprochen gut gefallen. Es ist ein erklärtes Ziel von mir, dort eines Tages ein paar meiner Modelle auszustellen. Mal sehen, wann das klappen wird!?

I have proved a few times this year already that i enjoy travelling in the name of scale modelling. After visiting shows in Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Austria and France the last journey of the year led me to England in order to finally see the famous Scale ModelWorld in Telford with my own eyes. This show is considered to be one of the largest of its kind in the world!
The journey was a very smooth affair and my very high expectations were all met - i don´t think that i have ever seen more built models in one place before than in Telford, not to mention the quality of the builds! The pictures in this video should speak for themselves. Apart from the master modellers there was also space for the advanced modellers and even a few beginners were not afraid of presenting their work there.
What i liked in particular is the fact that despite the impressive size of the show the social aspect did not suffer at all. The reason for that is most likely the very open-hearted mentality of the Brits, since it was very easy to start a conversation with literally anyone there. Therefore i had not only the chance to meet my old friends there, but also make new acquaintances.
The enormous array of vendors made the pocket loose a few "pounds" along the way, but luckily i brought along a suitcase big enough to carry it all home safely. However, more of that in an upcoming Channel Update video.
You can probably tell by now that i really enjoyed my time there. Now it is my goal to display a few of my models there one day. We shall see when that might happen!?

What a show. Thanks for sharing them with us. So much talent on display. A few items caught my interest. The Dam Buster Lancaster for one and King Arthur and the Black Knight for another. But the cut-away Flower Class Corvette is a work of art. Wish I was there to see it.

Ciao Lorenzo! That show is really quite something, both the experts and the beginners have a place there. Everyone was so friendly, too. I heard a few people speaking Italian there, some even had a table there with a display.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.. :) Personally I'm not a fan of overly large shows and massive crowds, but the main thing is that you had fun and you obviously got a taste for more, wanting to display your builds there one day. As always you shared some great models on display, including some Swedish stuff which I always apreciate. Now I'm looking forward to see your next channel update, to find out what you purchased..
Cheers Rob :) I also despise big crowds of people, but when scale modelling is involved i can tolerate it luckily! Saturday was a bit mad, since there were a ton of people there, Sunday was much better and far less crowded. I think you would have coped with that amount of people.
We shall see how it goes, i entertain the idea of displaying something there one day. Next year i am pretty certain i won´t have time, but maybe in two or three years? It is too early to promise anything though :)
Speaking of Swedish stuff, i barely found any models of that type, which was surprising. I´ve been to smaller shows, where a dozen or so Swedish models were displayed.
I meant to ask my club if they were displaying there this year, but did't get round to asking. The club chairman normally also display with the Nordic SIG, or something like that, doing a joint display of Swedish and Finnish Armed Forces, normally displaying a few Viggens and Drakens, but I guess they didn;'t do that either, this year, as I'm sure you would have spotted it.. Hopefully one year I'll make it as well, I just wish I could drive, as things would have been easier then.. :) @@HamilkarBarkasScaleModelling

Thanks mate, i certainly enjoyed my time in the UK a lot :) Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, so it was easy to find people to talk to at the show and even outside the show.

Telford war wirklich der Hammer, wäre gerne dabei gewesen, hoffe du hattest einen tollen Trip mit bleibenden Eindrücken! Da waren ja wieder unglaublich talentierte Modellbauer am Start. Mir hat das riesen Diorama mit den verschiedenen Kunstflugstaffeln am besten gefallen - hattest du auch einen Favoriten?
Haha schön wärs, aber für eine One-Man-Show kann sich mein Jahresrückblick dann doch wieder sehen lassen :)
Von der Präsentation her war das Display mit den Kunstflugstaffeln tatsächlich das schönste dort, ich fand aber auch den Tisch mit all den Mulberry-Häfen sehr cool. Ansonsten gab es so einiges dazwischen zu entdecken, wie das Duell zwischen Arthus und dem schwarzen Ritter :)

-IDK what it is? But that Tiger 1's tracks look strange to me for some odd reason?...They look GREAT as to the overall finish...
-Maybe its just early model tracks without the traction chevrons present?...-As I most often build late model Tigers & am just overly used to 'em by now...;)

There were many awesome models to see there and it is tricky to pick a favourite. I loved the Mulberry harbor displays and the WW2 theme scenes, like the Panzer IV of the thumbnail or the Sd.Kfz.250 vignette.

Danke fuer das Video Michael. Es war fantastisch in Telford, leider haben wir uns nicht getroffen. Ich war nur am Samstag vor Ort. Viele schoene Sachen gesehen und mit viele Leute gesprochen, das geht tatsaechlich wie immer leicht in der UK. Auch ich hab wieder einzige schoene Kits mitgenommen und auch wieder einzige Buecher. Hoffentlich treffen wir uns ins neue Jahr mal wieder auf eine Show. Ich bin gespannt was du alles gekauft hast. Gruss Ferry.
Bitteschön Ferry! Die Show war so groß, dass man sich tatsächlich nicht unbedingt über den Weg läuft. Sehr schade, ich hätte dich gern ein zweites Mal getroffen :) Ich hoffe wir haben dazu nächstes Jahr wieder Gelegenheit, es kommen ja wieder tolle Veranstaltungen auf uns zu.

You are welcome Russ :) I did not watch many other reports, since i made my own haha. I took about 600 photos there, so obviously only a fraction found its way into this video.
I did not bring anything there, but maybe next time. I will certainly try to carry something over to the USA next year, so i should have done a test with model transportation via airplane for Telford already.

You should put a caption to show which are made from scratch and which are just from kits.
While that would be interesting, it would be very hard to get all that information on the spot, the show would have to last a week or two :)
I was going to the Telford show on Sunday and was hoping to meet you. Unfortunately my brother died and I had to sort out a few things

Thanks for sharing all these beautiful shots. Just one question; there was an F-117 presented in the exhibition painted with the Israeli tactical scheme. Was this a "what-if" model, or did the Americans actually painted it with the specific three-colours paint scheme?

Hallo zusammen...ich bräuchte bitte einen Tipp ;) Ich habe mir ein Panzermodell 1/35 gebaut. Dies steht auf einem Umgebauten Bilderrahmen als Sockel. Gerne möchte ich das Modell vor Staub und anfassen schützen. Ich dachte mir dazu einen Rahmen aus Plastikglas ect. zu bauen. Etwas was man selbst schneiden kann und dadurch Größe und Form selbst bestimmt. Hat jemand evtl einen Tipp wie solch ein Material heißt und wo ich das finde? Einen lieben Dank
Oh damit kenne ich mich gar nicht aus. Ich würde tatsächlich eher eine fertige Haube mit Bodenplatte besorgen und darin das Modell präsentieren, anstatt es andersherum aufzuziehen.
