If I'm not mistaken, you can play as Peter Parker in older Spider-Man games too, like Spider-Man 2000, Spider-Man Enter the Electro and Spider-Man The Movie Game. But to do that you have to input a cheat code. Don't know about PS2 version of Spider-Man 2 movie game thou, because I never played it.
