Thank you for this wonderful story and especially thank you Mr. Manny. I don't know Portuguese at all, and I only know a little English, but I felt the emotion and kindness that Mr. Manny conveys, and that is the most valuable thing today.
Oh my goodness Jeff, that was absolutely unique & special! 😮 Kudos to Mr Manuel who had to really start living by being independent at 12 & such achievements accomplished so he can now share his knowledge & experience with the younger generations of Madeira; you must be so proud to have him as part of your family! My father left Bangladesh for England in his teens, he's now in his late 80s & I feel he's in a similar boat to Senhor Manny. He even managed to be awarded an MBE from The Queen in 2001 for his charity work both home & abroad, but that's another story & a potential future vlog for me as you've inspired my Jeff! Have a great June my friend & also thanks to André for his camera work 🤗
Wonderful video of a special person who everyone in Madeira knows. My parents were also immigrants in South Africa and I was born there and also came alone to Madeira in 1991 (although I was 22 yrs old). Love living here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else ❤️🙏.
Couldn’t agree more, wouldn’t wanna live anywhere else!! Thank you Linete and yes, I’m very proud to have Manny as my cousin and friend, a truly special person indeed 🤠
Inspiring story and one that resonates personally with a lot of us having relatives that took this initial step in search of a better future. I equally enjoyed Manny explaining the importance of failure but how you can come back stronger! Powerful x
Most definitely Tania, we always see failure as a bad thing don’t we … glad you enjoyed the video and hopefully we can bring more stories like this to the channel 🙏
What a great story buddy! It's the story of part of my family. Some went to South Africa, others to Venezuela, where I was born! Now we are spread all over the world, but a part of our ❤ is in Madeira, nosso cantinho do ceu!
I just want to show my support to what many already wrote. Very special video, very inspiring. Madeira's history - and present - is full of examples of globalization, emmigration, immigration. Always nice to hear first hand experiences! Keep on the good work!
Great stuff Jeff Good to see the channel branching out. The travel vids for Madeira practically sell themselves, but content like this is a real differentiator.
Manny, loved your story. Such a strong boy and adventure for a 12 year old. Myself, I left Portugal at 12 years of age but with my parents. They left after the revolution in 1975, and 40 + years later, I returned 6 years ago, and I wish I had returned home sooner! Last year, I visited SA including Capetown, which I absolutely loved, along with Durban. So happy that you never forgot home, Portugal needs people like you. God bless you Manny e um grande abraço.
While the circumstances surrounding my ancestors leaving Madeira were tragic, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for their bravery and foresight in coming to the United States. They settled in Jacksonville, Illinois. I am blessed to return to Madeira for the third time this October.
I would love to know more 🙏 could I ask you to send me an email please? I would love to know a bit more about that story, as tragic as it was, its a lesser known story and we’re very interested in telling it 🙏 hittheroadjeep@gmail.com
Sadly but also a wonderful story. I'm also a proud Portuguese that left Portugal when I was 4years old but had my parents waiting for me on the other side of the Atlantic USA. I'm know 57 and planning to return to my birth place .
I was born in Monte in 1969. My parents left for the UK and I followed them in 1974. I grew up in London ! Madeira is beautiful, if you have never been, it should be on your list to visit before you die !
Hi Jeff. The Madeirense are hard working people! They left Madeira for a better life, to all parts of the world, that they had on the island. Like our parents. Um abraço ! 🇵🇹🇿🇦
Manny também sou filho da imigração, mas a tua história é realmente impressionante, teres ido apenas com 12 anos, e ainda depois de tudo teres enviado o dinheiro da tua viagem aos teus pais.
Reminds me of the story of my parents who left the Azores to Canada for a better life. The irony is now that i'm leaving Canada for the Azores for a better life. Funny how that works.
E trabalhadores e nunca perdemos a nossa fe. Gracias a Deus e a nossa senhora do monte nossa padroeira. Muito obrigado. Bem Hana muita saude.

Another awesome video that brought out some emotions in me, because my grandfather also left Madeira for South Africa when he was 12 years old.

Very much so Manuel 💪💪💪
Very proud to be Madeirense ❤️
Beautiful story ❤️
Indeed it is 🙏

Hello, thanks for sharing your story.
What a clever man you are. I salute you. Mr Manny.
Thank you Caroline !! Manny is in fact a legend 🤠
Reminds me of the story of my parents who left the Azores to Canada for a better life. The irony is now that i'm leaving Canada for the Azores for a better life. Funny how that works.
Mine came over to US from Azores 1891.
Im more than a little temped to make the move back.
It is indeed ironic how this is happening now
