African Grey Parrots

African Grey Parrots originate from rainforests 🌴in West and Central Africa. They have become increasingly popular in the exotic pet market, putting them at a very high risk of extinction in the wild⚠️. Currently, international trade permits only allow the import and export of African Grey Parrots from registered captive breeding facilities. However, there remains a significant issue of poaching and smuggling of these birds. Hong Kong is the 9th largest importer of African Grey Parrots globally, with a total import of 2,800 between 2015 and 2021.❗
African Grey Parrots have complex needs. They are intelligent, with the cognitive abilities of a 5-year-old, and require social interaction and space. Meeting their psychological and physical needs in captivity can be challenging, often leading to stress and anxiety. 😖
