Truly awesome of you to provide that extra, as if producing a video isn't hard enough. Just did this yesterday, didn't have your video figured it was way to obscure to have it documented. It was an all day affair for me because Linux refused to find/install the dependencies, and then when I tried the docker container that didn't want to work right either. Luckily I did get it working, but I completely took apart my TESSAN A4L and was going to do it via serial... man I am glad I got this working that would have been one heck of a soldering job. Now this is actually my favorite switch! 4 plugs, Tasmota, USB, for about $20 but I cant find more of them to buy anywhere!

    We should contact tuya they are going against customers wishes by patching this. They need to make it easier for custom firmware. They don't loose money from custom firmware I'd anything they make more money from accepting it. Shelly is doing it with Shelly it doesn't even void the warranty if you flash it with a different firmware

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp 5 років тому +2

      I did mention that to them when I replied, but the problem is that Tuya is actually selling their product (the Wi-Fi module and cloud service) to other manufacturers, so it is problematic for their business model.

    • @daltonschrader8328
      @daltonschrader8328 5 років тому +1

      Which is understandable. A majority of their users will use the cloud services due to the fact that most people are not power users they want a plug and play experience. People who flash it make a very small (but important part) of the customer base. If they do block it. Those power users will go elsewhere. And even tho they are only a small part they could in turn find a different company that does fit those needs and that company Kay end of going after tuyas regular customer base.

    Excellent video. Worked perfectly when flashing my downlights. I have 4 downlights controlled by Node-Red through MQTT and the wife is happy.
    Do you know if there is a way to synchronize the built-in Tasmota effects (scheme 3)? Tasmota can cycle through colors, but each light starts and cycles to a different color. It would be great if they could all have the same color pattern by default, otherwise I'll have to find a way to do it through Node-Red.

It's a DIY project anyone can build themselves and I have an information website about everything LED at quinled.info . Check out the following video where I demonstrate how the boards work in Home Assistant: ua-cam.com/video/Sd77zavUyjM/v-deo.html
    p.s. Awesome video, I'm actually in the process of making a video about it myself but then with smart plugs which I flash to ESPhome!

      Sorry I missed you. I enjoyed your guest spot on the Doc's stream! Did you ever see my video with ESP32 LED dimming?
      I added you to the list.

    Thanks this helped me a lot.. I run Proxmox and i ran into a script that creates a container that uses a wireless card attached to the Proxmox server to run the firmware converter. Here's the link, hope it can help others.
