Saw it at the CIFF premiere this past weekend. Y’all have no idea how hysterical and insane this incredible film gets. Run, don’t walk, to the theater when it gets a wide release.
This is actually based on a known phenomenon you can read about (tons of articles, even sites devoted to it) where countless people have seen the same man in their dreams over the years who always seems to be just observing. There's actually a sketch of the "man" people keep seeing, based on testimonies from the people who see him (which, oddly enough, looks like what they did with Cage's "look" in the film). It's likely just some psychological composite "man" that many people form in their heads that *seems* like the same person - but for a screenwriter to turn that into a story about an actual man being recognized as that person and his reaction to it, is a GREAT idea. I wish I'd thought of it. lol
I was thinking about that same thing! I think it resonates with us because it suggests that we share a collective subconsciousness. It provides a safe idea of the supernatural for people who don't believe in the supernatural.
He has always been this actor if you look at his early filmography, I think it's that most people saw him first in The Rock or Con Air, he was always this actor... see Vampires Kiss, Wild at Heart, and even Raiding Arizona.. he is truly more of a character actor who got filed into leading actor... and rightfully so, only problem is he really becomes the character he is playing.. great for a character actor, leading high profile actors are themselves playing a role... but hey maybe Nic is this slightly off centered person. And we tried to stuff him into "normal roles" and now he is finally getting to play a little more, who he really is! Either way enjoy the ride.
I feel over the years cage has been given the opportunity to tweak and refine aspects of his acting ability so much it’s like every part he has ever done is been merged into one cohesive character to bring to life something new. He is an underrated actor that has put in the ground work doing all types of movies despite the criticism of good or bad. He is the epitome of what happens when you just do you. It’s his perceive awkward nuances that over the years people have learnt to love. Rejecting the conventional Hollywood tropes and reaching deep into the parts of himself others dare not. Weather or not it looks good, bad, ugly doesn’t matter. He is reaching for something he deeply believes in and that’s what we come to appreciate and get behind. Thankyou cage 💐
the scary arms up run he does is from Vampire’s Kiss, the little chuckle he does after saying he’s special is straight out of the wicker man - yeah it’s crazy how he picks and chooses tiny little mannerisms from his other roles and brings them over. I adore him.
So glad im here for the resurgence of nic cage, i know he never left but to finally see him get more serious roles again is amazing, one of my favorite actors of all time. What a time to be alive!

The reason I’m excited for this movie isn’t the actor or what may happen in it, but the phenomenon that it’s showing, to see someone you have never met in your dreams and then meet the same person is something I’ve actually experienced and I’m happy a movie is doing it.
Im not here to poop on the possibility that that happened and was an interesting experience. Ive no doubt it was. But i felt you should know the science behind this. The faces we see in our dreams are composites of every face we have ever seen in our life. That alone is pretty OP of the brain to be able to do apparently. Those faces in our dreams are real faces of real people that we have seen during our life but may not know or remember. We don't fully see a face in the dream so we mostly fill out the details from memory. Or perhaps walking down the street one day in your town you saw that face. This doesnt take away the fact that you dreamed them, and then one day met them. That probably still hit and was a vibe, but youd be fooling yourself if you convinced yourself it was something more mystical than that. This is what science has claimed anyways and has told us. I know nothing for a fact even if science has claimed it does. Maybe in a few years there will be more interesting discoveries about the nature of dreaming.
@@bryansuarez2396Everyone knows about that.. that’s nothing new to anyone but what OP described isnt that nor this. Sorry to poop on your parade. There’s no science behind what OP experience but the scientific term of a phenomenon.

Nic Cage has evolved over the years to one of my favorite actors. I can’t recall ever being so amped about an actor, every film he does now gets me incredibly excited, something 20years ago I probably wouldn’t have imagined ever saying. After his recent films like Pig, Mandy and The Color Of Space I know whatever project he is going to be a part of is going to be unique and well crafted, something I really appreciate these days. 1:53 that crazy movement; the erratic swinging of his arms with a giant smile on his face as he moves in to presumably kill... now THAT is something that I've had nightmares about.
Nic Cage's film choices since probably Mandy and on has been remarkable. These high concept characters in high concept films are the perfect choices for him. Almost leaning into the memes of his characters ridiculousness, but retaining enough humanity to feel grounded.
Jiu Jitsu and Prisoners of Ghostland would like to have a word, lol But, in all honesty, Cage has more good and great movies than most major actors would dream of. There's just also a whole lot of...not that...as well.
This is one of the most refreshing movies Ive seen in years. It's dark humor is uncomfortably funny. People can be so unreasonable especially with what seems like its real.
A24 is some of the best sources for indie films that are original and feel authentic. This is the first time Nick boards the ship and I'm all here for it.

A movie made with 35 mm (or any other type of film) set in this new decade is surely a great mix that I always wanted to see one day, you sense that this might be an old film but then you see stuff like phones or how people socialize or even the themes which are more prominent to these recent years that gives you this sense of confusion, but at the same time a feeling of fascination to see these two concepts intersect and combine, or well, at least for me. it was a wonderful surprise
I wish I'd thought of it. lol
Yep
I knew I'd heard about this before - thanks for reminding me homie
I don't think it's a real phenomenon. There was a creepypasta about "This man" and it's a made-up story.
Yeah that wasn't actually real. That was a creepy pasta
I was thinking about that same thing! I think it resonates with us because it suggests that we share a collective subconsciousness. It provides a safe idea of the supernatural for people who don't believe in the supernatural.
He's been KILLING it in these strange roles the past couple of years! Dudes found his perfect archetype 😂
For real! He’s found his niche
Pig, Mandy, Unbearable Weight, Color Out of Space... yup
It's crazy how he's so shit in every role and still gets work
He's got another film where he plays a badass buffalo hunter coming out too. Dudes on fire!
Cage has been absolutely killing it lately in these low-to-mid-budget indie movies. Really interested in this one.
"the unbearable weight of massive talent" was awesome
