    The sounds of these motors give me goose bumps. They are as distinct as the radial engines of WWII and I just love it. What a note. What a melody.

    We followed the 2018 Cannonball from start to finish in a 1984 VW Hippy Van. This video really captures the essence of this 17 day endurance run. Every morning the motorcycle museum takes off for a 250 to 300 mile ride. Every afternoon there's a reception where the rolling museum is on display. Every evening it's maintenance and repair so they can start all over the next morning. The holy grail of antique motorcycle adventure with a phenomenal cast.

    The sound of the antique bikes is intoxicating. I only wish I could afford to do this ride just once. Great video, great people, great bikes!

    • @ibdaffy
      @ibdaffy 4 роки тому +3

      @Abu Dabu The entry fee is the least of the expense. First, you must have a basically unmodified 1929 or earlier motorcycle (very expensive). The money to pay for a support team following you with tools, spare parts, mechanics. Paying for all of that, the gas, the hotel, the meals, insurance, etc. Being able to take time off from work, if you are still working. I am sure there are other associated costs as well.

    At 73 if my wife lets me get another motorcycle I will surely try to come to this great run 🦅🇺🇸🦅 my first real motorcycle was my 37 Indian scout 😃🦅🇺🇸🦅🏍. Yes it only cost me 50 dollars I was 14 years old then had to hide it from my mother and father . It’s all about the ride 🦅🇺🇸🦅🏍

    This is an epic ride ,I know a couple that back in the summer of 1974 rode to Long Beach California from Whitewater Wisconsin,2 up on a 1948 125cc Harley that was epic too , until I saw this video I didn’t know anyone else would be crazy enough to try this

    While I can’t afford these amazing machines I’m glad to see those who carry the legacy of these bikes keep them from collecting dust. I would love to just ride next to these guys with my 74 Ironhead XLCH, I know it’s for 1930 and before but I think most would just like seeing an 18 year old out on an old bike carrying on a tradition.

    I've done endurance riding but never on something this old. Less than 1% of viewers stopped to give it a thumbs up - seems pitiful. Great photography and great editing. I really don't understand who would give it a thumbs down except perhaps a non-rider who was expecting something else. Thanks for a great video.

    Wow, I have never seen such an avent. Those bikes are amazing travelling so far. I just cannot believe they would even attemp it on those old engines, But you did. The sound of those old motors thumping along was great. Im British and the only thing i would of wished for is you filmed some Brit bikes running also. But was great. Thanx.

    Did I see there a F-Head-Bobber at 27:40? A black Harley with an ioe-engine, a fat rear tire and a light chopped rear fender I've seen there. And sorry, thanks for posting this video! Ten years ago I sold my 500cc-Norton of 1937, but this machine was been a modern day bike compared to these delicious sounding beauties here.
    How many miles did they ride at all, how long was the whole distance of this rallye?

    great video captures the atmosphere of the event perfectly. including the mishaps. i wish we had a long distance endurance event in uk. good on you , bikes were made to ride and you certainly do that in the USA in fine style.I also like how the bikes are allowed to show their age and are not over polished and bullshitted up like many so called enthusiasts machines are theses days.Great old chap that determined to ride with his broken shoulder I take my hat of to him .In UK rain seems to deter most riders and most dont know how to change a tyre nver mind strip the engine. where have all the true riders gone? It seems they are in the USA.Another thing I noticed is the bikes sound like bikes not like these modern fizz boxes.

    It's kind of a shame at no point in the hour did the camera just stay on a bike and have one of the owners to go over the details of the bike...
    The only thing close to that was the leather belt drive lesson which was interesting.
    I never realized that the leather belt road on leather "leggings" as he said...

    Amazing how these old machines ever survived the century when they literally self destruct when you actually ride them. People today would have thrown them in the trash. Whole different breed of people back then. People today still think a fuel injected Harley is unreliable 🤦‍♂️. They don’t even know what unreliable even means 😂

    I was reading the requirements to be part of it and most of them looks ok but they ask the bikes (pre 1929) to be able to maintain speeds of 45 mph ....
    I do not think most of the single cylinders motorcycles of those times can cruise at that speeds. That explain why most of the bikes are big multy cylinders motorcycles
