damn!!! Hudson was back then very known for awesome games with awesome metal / rock songs . good examples: Bloody roar 1&2 , lords of thunder, gates of thunder , soldier blade and some of the bomberman games . its just a shame that today we never will experience such awesome game soundtrack like this in nowadays games . =( why isnt there a development-team which concentrate on games with great metal soundtracks and awesome gameplay like Hudson in the 90s ? DX
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 Yeah considering the Neo Geo ports on the system are close in terms of graphics like have you seen World Heroes 2 and Fatal Fury Special on the system which Sapphire also uses for its arcade card?
On the real system (Duo models), the 'PSG' isn't as loud in ratio to the CD output, so the sound FX aren't as loud, In emulation, I usually turn the PSG volume down for this game anyway.
Say what you will about the TG-16 but, it was/is pretty bad ass. Just like any system that wasn't completely backed by developers (in the states anyway) it was plagued with shovel ware and some fairly crap advertising. What I did like is that we had basically one system that you could (if you had the cash) expand a fair amount. I liked it better than the Genesis and SNES. I would have loved to seen what the system could have become if it had been more popular... Maybe the FX would have been something completely different than it turned out to be. Ahhh, that's the thing about retro gaming, always what could have been. BTW, this game ROCKS, great game play too.
I heard this is one of the rarest and most expensive PC-Engine games out there... Fortunately, if you own a PSP and are willing to import, you can get it in the Galaxy Collection as a bonus game! And it's just jaw dropping to think this is a PC-Engine game, I guess it was it's swan song? ^_^;
Been playing this on the core grafx mini and I absolutely love it! One of the most accomplished shooters I've ever played. I don't mind that it's so short because it's bloody rock solid! Furthest I've got so far is the boss on level 4.
This game is fantastic, have it on my Duo R. Would of loved to have seen Hudson soft red let loose with the Arcade card though. Imagine Lords or gates with even more effects going on.
Although I think in perspective, Gate and Lord of Thunder are more impressive games graphics and programming-wise. But if they did this without the arcade card, it would've been INCREDIBLE. Enough said.
Snatcher in English, Lunars, Sonic CD, Denin Aleste, Bari Arm, Final Fight CD, Soul Star, Thunderhawk, Popful Mail, Dungeon Explorer, Silpheed, Dune, Shining Force CD ... Pretty good games imho ...
The PC Engine CD hardware wasn't bad to begin with. Just as the SEGA CD hardware wasn't as bad as the Nintendoids made it out to be in the past (and still do).
@@benjaminzuniga5750 the PC Engine has an 8 bit CPU, but a 16 bit GPU. So you are both kinda right. It doesnt matter whether or not its a CD game. CD games were only made so that bigger games could be played. Thats why most CD games look better. Much more memory to work with.
Sega CD brought us Lunar and Lunar 2 and for that I will always be thankful, but other than that, that was a poorly designed add on...super cdrom^2 was way better designed.
@Tanukitsune2 I think it uses the Arcade System Card's added RAM to help but it's still very impressive for the technically 8-bit PCE. I wish I could play it but it was already hard enough getting a Super System Card.
The 8 bit cpu was its syncing processor, it kept the graphics and sound in sync with each other, how many game systems do you judge by their sync processors - absolutely none I bet.
@@danmakuman Same with Vectorman on the Megadrive/ Genesis. Blasting sound FX are wwaayyy louder than the cool, sublime music and no way to turn down the FX sound without turning down the background music as well on an original console. Just as well Vectorman's sound FX are not as bad as this games.
The Mega CD did video poorly and the games that used FMV sequences were often poor quality. The Super CD Rom^2 addon was expandable, giving the the system towards the end of its life near perfect ports of MVS games. Sound channels...so what? FM Synthesis was not the best sound design choice for the time...giving it more channels doesn't really do much to improve it... In what ways did the Sega CD use rotation and scaling features effectively? The SNES did that out of the box to great effect.
@Nighthawk Yet what did they do with it? The Sega CD was a lot of potential yet the end result has a few good games, but more missed potential than anything else. That is why it sold so poorly.
Why bother having such a kickass soundtrack when you can't hear shit from the horrible sound effects? I'm playing this game now, it looks good, it's somewhat fun, but the sound is just awful...
Way better designed in what ? the cdrom 2 just add better data capacity and red book audio. The sound effect are not better than a stock pce, and there is nothing new for the graphics. Mega Cd add more sound channels to the Md ( snatcher Mega Cd sound effects kills Snatcher PCE CD sound effects ), the ASIC processor add scaling, rotation etc ... the Mega CD do video ..
Yet it was overall a crappy addon that was underused and hardly any games worth playing. Too many FMV games and Golden Axe did not even have CDROM audio. Plus, Lords Of Thunder and this game proved what the CDROM 2 were capable of, Lords Of Thunder blows away the Sega version and is much harder as well.
If that is seriously the only complaint you can muster, you are a sad Sega simp! Sorry Sega CD was terrible and came out with NOTHING even close to this.
The polygons are pre-rendered and put into a fluidly animated sprite.

The most modern playing shmup on the PC Engine, period. One of the few on the system that let you credit feed it.
It looks like a Neo Geo game with lower resolution (which some people think might look cooler) this game is insane
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 Yeah considering the Neo Geo ports on the system are close in terms of graphics like have you seen World Heroes 2 and Fatal Fury Special on the system which Sapphire also uses for its arcade card?

One of the FUCKING BEST Shmups ever, alongside Macross Scrambled Valkyrie and Gley Lancer.

A lot of shmups were like that.
alxxpspqr exactly! Loads of other PCE shooters weren’t anywhere near as bad, shame really, otherwise it’s a pretty stunning game.
Pc engine rocks!!!
I still can't believe that this is an 8-bit system released the late 80s! I know the GPU 16-bit.
Well, this game requires Arcade Card. Which it is extra hardware for the original machine. I mean, it doesn't works on base PC Engine.

Lolis, heavy metal, and hardcore 2-player shooting on the PC-Engine... Hard to go wrong here. :)
For those interested, I have a runplay of Sapphire almost without shot noises on my channel in the PC Engine CD playlist
Modern day leftwingers would cry if they knew people were in to this kind of stuff 😂😂.
Pretty cool game for the Sega Saturn.
Wait, THIS IS THE PC ENGINE CD!?
