    Wow I’ve been playing this game for over a decade and I never realized that you have to jump a checker if there is an open space behind it. I would avoid jumping sometimes because I knew it was bait for a double jump lol

You could lose very easily in just one wrong move (especially against maxed AI engine). Unlike in chess, you can still hold on even if you have made a huge blunder.

      The strongest opening move is old faithful. Become an expert in winning with this opening move. Most players use it. There are 2 great responses. The 1st. is to respond with old faithful (watch the various videos and you will see that I do that all the time!). the second is when your opponent moves to position 6 or 7 as their first move. Always block them from getting into your right hand corner square. See our various videos and the upcoming ones. This is normally the weakest opening moves, because you can pin one of your opponent's checkers.

    In my country, if you choose to move your checker and not to eat the other if you have the choice, it means your checker is burned/taken out. If you choose to take only one item out of your opponent, and not more- you don't have to. But at least to take one of them out. The 'king' doesn't walk only one step ahead of the other color.. the king is able to choose wherever it chooses as long as as it is on the black lines.
    This game is not the real game.

      In American checkers or English draughts, only the king can capture backwards. Some versions of checkers allow any checker to capture backwards.

      No, there are so many books that talk about the theory of playing Checkers, especially about the various openings. I suggest only one opening and 2 responses when playing second. In this way you will immediately start winning more games as you become more experienced with the subsequent moves, since you will have eliminated hundreds of different possible moves if you use all the different openings and defenses. When you start winning more, you can then start experimenting with all the possible openings eg. The Waterloo, the double corner, the dyke, the souter etc. Please let me know if you want me to record our game beforehand. Good luck!

    • @WinningCheckers
      @WinningCheckers  2 роки тому

      Yes that is correct, but only diagonally on the colored squares (brown in this case). It cannot move sideways or up and down like the king in chess one square at a time. Also, the king in chess cannot jump! like the king in checkers.

    • @WinningCheckers
      @WinningCheckers  2 роки тому

      @@jasonjrf Yes like a bishop in chess, because a king in checkers moves diagonally, but unlike a bishop in chess (which cannot jump) a checkers king jumps over the opponents' checkers to take or capture as long as there is an empty space behind or in front of the opponents' checkers (English draughts or American Checkers rules). Others, variations of checkers, like Russian, French have flying kings!

Control the center, fork, scissors, bridge etc. Concentrate on pulling your opponents back checkers away, so you can get a king, while keeping your 2 anchor checkers in place. Hope this helps.

      In English draughts or American checkers if you can jump a checker you must do so (mandatory jump). In my opinion this is an excellent rule since in your case you may set up a trap, but what if your opponent decides not to jump? What happens to you trap?
