- James Kalm rides his bike to the Upper East Side of Manhattan to take in the first one man exhibition held here in New York of the work of Asger Jorn in decades. Jorn (1914-1973) is perhaps one of the most seminal influencers on European painting in the post WWII period. Floating from Surrealist inspired expressionism, to a New Primitivism represented by CoBrA, to his part as a founding member and longtime supporter of the Situationist Internationalist, this artist played a major part in some of the most recognized avant-gardes of the 20th Century. “The Open Hide” is jewel box show which presents a delectable group of paintings, works on paper, graphics and book works representing the major sections of this painter’s oeuvre. This program was recorded May 17, 2016.
What an excellent painter.... if those paintings aren't worth millions, they will be soon enough.

Aaaa! You seems to know a lot about painters! So fun to watch:-) Tanx
nice tip on the Alechinsky.
Alechinsky is still alive and working!
Great work!!
Thank you Kate, thank you everybody.
Great visuals and though I know the names, the history is new to me... Guy Debord, etc. Interesting that you were a G.I in Germany in the early 70's. I was there as a H.S student at the same time. The last thing I saw before returning was Documenta 5, in '72. That did it, I decided to be an artist.
great show, and thanks. noticed you referencing oehlen lately, which is great, but i'm pretty sure it's pronounced UR-lin.
perfect!
New video, yeeeaaah!
I really love that lithograph, similar to Twombly
I do like to follow your show but I wish you would start to Focus on the total painting for the length of three breath before circling around for details and then scanning the Wall by walking - its still interesting but it could be more of a visual joy if you focused more on each work before moving around on the painting and in the gallery space - but you choose interesting subject - thats also why it is somehow frustrTing that you dont honour the total piece before circling for interesting details
Great colorist along with Appel
Thank you Kate, thank you everybody.
