The Grinch's Television Version is Not Funny!

- The Ron Howard adaptation of Dr. Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas must do super well on cable TV every year because for some reason they added in a bunch of pointless scenes that aren't funny. Find out how unfunny they are and learn about the deleted scenes in this video!
I don't know why anyone would want a 3 hour long extended cut but here is a petition for it

Weird, I've never heard of a TV version of a movie that actually ADDED something to the movie instead of making cuts. Thanks for the video!
They added a bunch of new scenes to the TV cuts of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies and the first two Halloween movies
Crazy how I've seen this this version way more times than the regular version
The TV Cut videos are my favorite. It's so weird how many movies have TV cuts that are either take away, edit into a completely different and weird movie, or just flat out ADD stuff. Now I know why this movie has a 4 time slot on ABC Family
EDIT: PLEASE do that weird ass alternate version of Night of the Living Dead with the real weird inserted scenes. I think you and the Movie Dumpster guys would have a good time with that
It’s cute that Tony thinks petitions do things
You're gonna look real stupid when that 3 hour cut of The Grinch comes out!
HOLY HELL Joe and Sean being Harry and Marv is perfect casting!
Fun fact. Jim Carrey in Grinch suit ran into Eddie Murphy while he was in his Nutty Professor make up. Both "Grinch" and "Nutty Professor 2" were filmed in the same studio lot.
Yeah
There was a picture of him and Eddie Murphy as Sherman klump
Idk I didn't have fun reading this but to each their own
Rick Baker did the makeup for both along with the first Nutty Professor, Michael Jackson's Thriller, American Werewolf, Wolf with Jack Nicholson.
@@nathanforester5993 he also did the makeup for planet of the apes 2001
5:25 Tony dropping rhymes like Dr. Seuss.
So I love the theatrical version. I remember when it first was announced, out school went every single year on for like an annual holiday special thing and that's what made it magical to me honestly. But the TV version is a version I feel like I've seen before, with vague memories of only certain extended scenes. All I know is the theatrical cut is the best cut, has the best flow and while I agree it doesn't make sense for Cindyloo to know what he looks like, just to be fooled by a Santa outfit makes me mad, no version of the movie gives it justice to explain that she knew it was him but wanted him to come to terms with what he was doing was wrong, but that it's not about the materialistic nature of Christmas but coming together is what Christmas is about. My ears still cringe when she asks "Santa Grinch" what the meaning of Christmas is and he says presents, she just takes it at face value and goes back to bed. Well, until the plot hold of how the hell did she end up on top of his bag and why didn't she make herself as like his heart is growing big again. That I feel would have opened them both up to seeing anyone can change and be redeemable.
This is the first time in this series where I was like holy crap I remember all of these extra scenes I could have sworn they were just the normal movie
Every year me and my boy get drunk and watch this.
If only it had those "Whosteins"
Joke's on you: I like the TV cut of this movie.
Same here there’s a lot of scenes that I think would work
Fun Fact: The line "6:30 p.m. Dinner with me. I can't cancel that again." was improvised by Jim Carrey
I can see that
Interesting! 🤔
I remember more of the theatrical release of the Jim Carrey's The Grinch but the TV version Cut I remember seeing it aired on TV and I totally forgot they were multiple cuts of that movie. It's nice to look back on these again for this video.
Everyone should max out their credit cards for Tony this Christmas
The TV cut makes this movie i already hate akin to torture, why is this the version I've had to watch for almost 5 years straight as a traditon
release the Who-stein cut!
They never made it pas the script phase!
What about the time when the Grinch played football with that chicken? I don’t remember it in the theatrical cut.
This videos are always interesting Tony, makes you think what the director/editor/producer/tv executive/the director's hairdresser(depending on the movie) thought was an important scene and what was filler. The Die Hard movie seems sick !!! Can't wait
It's wild how much I remember of this stuff. Sucks or not I think it really should be preserved I find it interesting.
I'm like the focus on the TV cuts . I grew up watching TV cuts .
I can't remember the last time I watched a movie on Freeform.
This t.v. cut is probably why.
Yes they need to put all of that back in
Also I know about the 9 hourly cut of Austin powers movie that I really need to see
how did they make it 9 hours lol?!?
The guy at the end of the short teaser looks like David Arquett kinda
The reviews of TV and workprint versions of films are the best content on this channel.
Does anyone remember ever playing The Grinch Video game on either ps1 or Dreamcast lol? it was based on this movie but with adaptations. I used to love it as a little kid lmao!!
I haven't played it
But I heard it was a terrible game
I mentioned it in our main review
0:57 Does this mean they want a cut that is 3 and half hours long? Watching that every Christmas would be a 1 movie marathon.
You should do the 2018 one
Just noticed the Kfrog sticker lol Must be a 909 local; just subscribed to ya channel. Good work my dude🙌🏻
A dj at the station sent us those. He's a fan. I'm in the same state but not from there.
Don’t get me wrong I love this movie I watch it every year and I remember seeing this tv cut on 25 days of Christmas and I remember not liking it because it made the movie run time way to long plus ads where it made the run time 3 hours
Ah, yes, some scenes need to be deleted for a reason.
I love your reviews on these TV Versions and Workprints. I actually have a How the Grinch Stole Christmas Workprint that has additional scenes and unfinished special effects. I think it runs similar to the TV cut but i am not 100%.
I wonder if the very last deleted scene was a sort of an easter egg about the other much lesser-known Grinch cartoon special "Halloween is Grinch Night." In that special there's a Whovian who is sort of the civil defense brigrade who has a very crazy looking periscope to keep watch on the Grinch's territory and warn Whoville residents. That special is supposed to be a prequel, so maybe this movie is trying to indicate the Grinch took that guy out and stole his periscope device to spy on Whoville like they spied on him?
This is just fantastic
Love the reviews Tony
What happend with Doctor Sleep? You made a Book, Movie, and Mini Series Recap and Review for The Shinning in preparation for the release of the movie, but then no review. You could do now a comparison of the Theatrical version with the Director's Cut and the differences with the book because surely the divert in some aspects.
I'm sure this has been asked but why do TV networks do this? Outside of timing. Just seems weird to change a movie that might have already been established
as you said, timing. to better make it fit into a timeslot
I'm still pissed about the Jew-Whos. I want Whostiens damn it!
How do you find all of these TV edits?? I can’t seem to find them online anywhere
Some are on Blu rays and others are sent to me.
Tony did you ever see the TV version of The 'Burbs, I remember WGN America showing it one weekend can't recall what all was different about it other than some of the ending scenes were changed including the end I think.
Here's a good idea for a future video:
"S.O.S. TITANIC",
a 1979 TV film about the Titanic disaster starring Ian Holm (ALIEN), James Jans-sen (INCHON!), Harry Andrews (Super-man '78), Helen Mirren (The New Twilight Zone), Cloris Leachman (The Iron Giant), and David Warner (A Christ-mas Carol '84). The new Kino Lorber DVD release featured an HD remaster of the longer '79 American TV Cut and the condensed '80 European Theatrical Cut.
In my opinion, the American Cut of "S.O.S. TITANIC" is a better version of the film.
3:17 that's funny how can not think it's funny
Release the who-stein cut! Let there be JUSTICE for Jew-Whos!😂
Matt curse the city's delayed scenes from the not so funny live action version of the grinch.
I found the deleted scenes and add on seems that they’ve added to this movie surprisingly unnecessary, but also enjoyable, but it’s also a lot of them did pull from the narrative of the weird, modern retelling of the who’s liking the materialistic side despite the fact that in the book, they didn’t care about the materialistic part of Christmas is about that tradition. I don’t get why other Grinch agitations had a hard time when it came to the last few years.
Laugh my ass off last episode

Many people have mixed feelings as you mentioned.. I personally enjoyed the theatrical version.
Fun fact my favorite scene from this movie is when the Grinch says " I'm going to throw up and then I'm going to die! Mommy tell it to stop!"
One fact about me is.. I tried to avoid watching movies that I know are going to be heavily changed for television. In general.. that's just kind of my rule. Especially if it's a movie I really enjoy. Maybe I'm weird.. but I'm okay with that!
Literally the only good thing about this movie is jim carrey's performance as the grinch, that's it that's the only good thing about this movie imo
Bring back Newt. Who gives a fuck about mistakes and cancel culture? He's fun, you're fun, and all the other hosts.
It wasn't a mistake. He stole people's work on purpose. I wouldn't be surprised if half the stuff he said on the show was made up or stolen from someone else. He wasn't fun. He was miserable all the time. He will never be on this channel again.
@@HackTheMovies why even answer? You know people are just trying to get a reaction out of you, Newts gone, he’s doing his own thing, let him be somebody else’s issue, end of story
Lol
BRB Gonna complain about Star Wars for the millionth time
Yeah i remember the tv version and i agree it does suck
As someone who loves this movie, the tv cut is garbage. The movie doesn’t flow nearly as well, and the majority of the added scenes just aren’t funny, and don’t add any substance. I did actually feel like present pass it on was a little funny, since he steals the Mayor’s watch and tries to give that to Martha, and I like the lighting contest, but I don’t miss them when they’re not there either.
The theatrical version isn't funny either. The TV version is just more lame gags
Changes the vote last minute… hmmm sounds familiar like 2020
