    She never lost the rawness of emotion in her interpretation and her razor sharp pitch that has an ability to bite into the lyrics. Truly sublime and evergreen Nancy Wilson!!!

  • @lokijordan
    @lokijordan 12 років тому +13

    She's actually not flat. She's always done this tonal thing where she hits the note just under the pitch. Not flat. A few of the notes at the end of this piece were a tad off, but mostly she was on. Even so, she's still wonderful!

  • @dabodyrobinson
    @dabodyrobinson 13 років тому +7

    @barbfromoh Her straining to hit the notes as you think she is, is way better than anything out today, I love Nancy when her vocals goes into that state, where it seems as if she's straining, even on studio recordings she sounds like she's straining on some cuts. LOVE NANCY! Real Music, True voclist.

    Actually her performance and vocal fits the poignance of this melancholy song, I also love how it showcases how funny and real she was with her audience. She was a star but I always felt like she was framily! I love you Nancy.

    Nancy did a DARN GOOD job! It serves to show that if you take good care of your vocals they will care for you when you are in your Golden years!! For those of you who think that singing comes with ease as you age, you REALLY DO NOT KNOW much about the ART of SINGING!! EXCELLENT NANCY, as ALWAYS!

      Nancy was about 73 here, she would retire the next year. She still has a great tone quality here, but her vibrato/tremolo has become weak, as often happens to singers when they age. She worked so many years, giving us so much joy and we're thankful for her recordings to remember her by; she was one of my all-time favorite singers. We miss her (12-13-18) RIP, Nancy!

    I love this song and I love Nancy -- she has been one of my favorite singers for ages, but -- she was right to retire ten days short of a year after this performance. She was about 73 here, and had performed all over the world, but her vibrato/tremolo was slower, not as much in control like it once was, and she knew it. She gave millions of people a lot of joy, and we will enjoy her recordings forever. Beautiful songstress, beautiful lady. Enjoy your retirement, Nancy, you earned it! Bless you!

    It's from the album, "With My Lover Beside Me" released several months into 1991. Music by Barry Manilow and Lyrics by Johnny Mercer.
    I must give credit to Eddie Arkin, co-producer next to Barry, who made the album possible. Nancy LOVED the idea for an album when it was presented to her as she was looking for an album to make.
    In the liner notes of the album, Nancy starts off with talking about Barry and Eddie saying, "Gentlemen of the Highest Order,".
    This was a poem Johnny wrote which became the first piece that Barry put music to during a long run of shows in California at the very end of 1983. He debuted it there and gave an audience a performance of it on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
    Well, Nancy's album contains the writings of Mr. Mercer never musicalised until Barry accepted a stack of lyrics in a manila envelope given to him by Ginger Mercer, widow of Johnny.
    A little more: Nancy made an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show to promote her album and Barry showed up unexpectedly. Oh Nancy was thrilled. "This is really his album," she commented.
    ♥️🎤🌹

    Any minor issues with an occasional note are insignificant - the soul and grace and life experience triumphs any technical issues. Additionally you get to witness the patience, charm, humor, and loving being as she prepares for the performance. Sexy, sensuous, and soulful - Miss Nancy!

    I love Nancy, but this is Show Biz...... Big production about a song she supposedly loves but has forgotten. The song is clearly in the book, the band know it, so why the pretense?....
    Finally she sings it (out of tune) but the crowd is happy....
    I remember the time when singers learned their material.

  • @barbfromoh
    @barbfromoh 13 років тому

    I love Nancy as much as the next fan, maybe more. But let's be honest, this is not a good performance. She is straining to hit the notes and by her own admission she hadn't sung this song for years. Any fan would forgive her if she had taken a pass and sung something else.

    • @MJLeger-yj1ww
      @MJLeger-yj1ww 7 років тому +1

      I agree, John, but she did quit the next year, and just barely soon enough. When you age, you lose some muscle control in your throat (her vibrato had obviously weakened), BUT, she had a very long career and was 74 I think, and high time to retire. But her recordings will live on with us forever to enjoy. She was a beautiful singer, and a very nice person.

    • @MrJazzologist1
      @MrJazzologist1 7 років тому +1

      True, M J, her wonderful warm voice and personality was pure magic. It certainly turned me on. But when age brings about deterioration then it's time to hang up the gloves - and let people remember the glorious years.
