    We did a 10 day Japan cruise and then added another 10 days to do a land component too. The cruise was great and the Diamond Princess, although an older ship, was really comfortable and everything worked well. I would definitely add a few day land only pre or post cruise to see Tokyo and other cities and towns. The best holiday I’ve ever had.

    I just did a 14 night circumnavigation of Japan on Holland America’s Westerdam. Sailed from Yokohama on March 30. It was an amazing experience and one of my most memorable cruises. I’m retiring in early 2026!!! So I would definitely like to go back to Japan and I would be be interested in doing a cruise again, We all know that cruising is the best way to travel! So if you decide to do a group cruise, please mention it in your videos, I’m in!

    We have sailed on both and we really like both. Each have their things That I like. Princess for us is the self laundry and Holland the served food in the buffet. Each had GREAT entertainment along with their amenities. Food was great and unique to each line. The staff is so wonderful on both lines that would be hard to choose which one we like the most. Right now we are working our way to Platinum with Princess and hope to restart working on Mariner Society Amenities. Safe Travels.

    Connie & Iove your upbeat and positive attitude. You always seem to make the best of whatever comes your way. On our recent Holland America Cruise to Australia & New Zealand, the pastor onboard talked about having an "attitude of gratitude", and we always try to have that. We like Holland America better for their smaller ships and better food, but like Princess as well. We have cruises booked on both well into 2026.

      ...also, one of the things I REALLY like about Holland ships is they all have a promenade deck that goes around the whole ship. Some of the newer Princess ships don't (Sky Princess, e.g.) I like to walk around the promenade deck every day to combat the extra calories available onboard

    OK, in response to your invitation, we have sailed on the Diamond Princess in Japan on many cruises. Most recently we were on the Spring Flowers cruise this March which included ports in Kyushu and Busan, Korea. In August of 2023 we were on a Japan Festivals Cruise. In early 2023 we sailed on the first returned to Japan after COVID Cruise, also a Spring Flowers Cruise. In 2019 we experienced our first Spring Flowers Cruise. Prior to that we had sailed on a cruise that included ports in Hokkaido as well as the Russian Sakahlin Island. and on another that took us to Okinawa, Taiwan and Hong Kong before returning to Yokohama.
    I jokingly refer to the Diamond Princess as our "Time Share" given the number of repeat cruises. Yes, we highly recommend any of the Japan cruises on the Diamond Princess though obviously our favorite time is during Spring Sakura (Cherry Blossom) time. On the most recent cruise I noticed an increased emphasis on Enrichment Programs. One I enjoyed particularly was about Japanese Wood Block Printing. There have always been opportunities to learn basic Japanese language skills, Japanese arts such as folk dances and even origami. On this year's cruise we invited friends to join us and it was their first cruise in Japan for all four couples - all said they could see why we have come back again and again.

    • @nancyc1196
      @nancyc1196 2 місяці тому

      When I had researched Japanese cherry blossoms, all ships seemed to be a week or more LATE for peak blossoms. Can anyone confirm that you saw the cherry blossoms when you were there and provide specific dates and cities for us to plan please?

    • @dalejay7843
      @dalejay7843 2 місяці тому

      @@nancyc1196 It varies each year within a window from late Mach to mid April. This year even though the peak was delayed to after the first week of April there were still some to see on our last week of March Spring Flowers cruise. Also you may catch them in varied ports since each part of Japan has a different start and end date.

    No surprise since ports in Europe limiting ships and the demand in Asia so high. I wish that they would do the Tokyo to Singapore as a recurring trip instead of just for repositioning.

    A few years ago, I cruised Asia from Singapore that included, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, ending in Hong Kong. I spent a few days in Hong Kong. Ha Long Bay was beautiful as we cruised by the islets in the evening with the moonlight behind. I have beautiful pictures. That was a fantastic cruise. The ports were so interesting and not offered on many cruises. Sadly, Hong Kong may not be quite the same. Thankfully, I've been there several times.

    I was on a puddle jumper flight to Jamestown ND. That flight usually has 10 or fewer passengers. We were all talking to each other when a young woman from Brazil told us about her conference and hotel . It was clear she wasn’t going where we were going. Her conference was in Jamestown NY. The pilot left the takeoff line and took her back to the terminal and off loaded her luggage in hopes of getting her out to the right destination

    I've done 11 cruises on HAL and 7 on Princess. Our last cruise was a 28 day cruise on the Zaandam on the Amazon River and it was the best cruise we've ever taken. There are things I like about both cruise lines--overall though I prefer Holland. The food has been better on Holland (especially the buffet) and I feel like there are more covered spaces on Holland from which you can enjoy sailing to cold weather places like Alaska, Iceland, Greenland, Norway, etc. Also--Holland usually has better enrichment lectures than Princess. However--I do love the medallion service on Princess and loved being able to order a drink anywhere I was (at least I did before you had to pay extra for this service). Princess has better entertainment--especially the game shows and the production shows in the main theater. I loved sitting in the Atrium on Princess--Holland's atrium is not really a gathering place. And of course there are the lovely pools on Princess ships for warm weather sailing--so many to choose from!

    I’ve read that MSC has always been a family cruise line in Europe. They are trying and succeeding in accommodating American cruisers. I watched an interview with MSC corporates and their goal is to be #1 choice in the American market. More and more MSC is getting noticed. These changes will give them another advantage to gain the American dollar. As you stated, one of the ways to do this is to keep the prices low and cater to children. They probably won’t get to #1 but they will climb much higher up the ladder as time goes on. I love MSC Yacht club. The PRICE, services, status matching perks, plus the perks that come with the YC keep me going back year after year. I hope you try them soon if you haven’t already.

    Just returned from a wonderful cruise: 22 days Japan to Alaska. Embarked in Tokyo (Yokohama) and was in Japan 7 days-crossing the Pacific-plus Alaska 7 days! Fantastic itinerary, great Japanese ports - and great Alaska cruising college fjord, Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Sitka & Juneau. Saddest part was Royal Princess was not prepared or well stocked to make the journey. Food was for the most part like you, when you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel or forage through an old pantry to pull together a meal. Staff in the shops, restaurants, bars, arts&crafts, anywhere really, kept saying we will be able to pick up supplies when we get to Vancouver. Guess what?! We disembark the trip in Vancouver, so this was not encouraging to us. We paid full fare for a trip on a ship that was not fully supported. Yes, we were fed (from frozen food - can you say no fresh fruit or veggies?!), we participated in on board activities, and the ports were the star feature. But I'm sad to say I gave Princess an earful on the survey. Yes, we are blessed to travel and I shouldn't complain, but why not get fresh supplies along the way - Japan had them. Alaska had them. But No, Princess was under contract to get supplies in Vancouver. For once in a good while I do not have a Princess cruise in my future. Sorry to dump on your comments feed. On a good note - I can highly recommend Japan! And you can never go wrong visiting Alaska! 💟

    Princess vs Holland America. I find there are things that each of them do better. Disembarkation - Princess hands down. Some is by the ship. Captain Paul on the Volendam -- far and away the best at communicating, at taking responsibility, etc. Wait time on the phone is typically better on Holland America.

    We have recently returned from a repositioning cruise Sydney to Yokohama on Royal Princess, which included 5 Japanese ports. Cruisers need to be aware that Princess did NOT communicate which port the ship was docking at in Yokohama until 2-3 days before arrival, which prevented guests pre-planning hotels, transport etc near the cruise port, and this added significant cost. Princess kept free shuttle options from the different ports secret, until pressured by guests at Guest Services. Also, Princess charged very high shuttle prices for each guest to get from the port to the town on a number of Japanese ports. It was not possible to walk from the ship to the town centres as too far. No information about these charges were given to guests until the day before! Not acceptable for cruisers budgeting their on-board expenses. Princess needs to up their game!

    • @lkc8883

      We were on the Royal from Sydney to Yokohama, and we agree about the lack of information about shuttle and transfers, not good enough. We can say the food on the most part was good on the Royal, and also you had the midday update given by the Captain most days. We transferred to the Diamond in Yokohama and found the food options no where near as good as the Royal. We enjoyed Japan and would consider doing another cruise there.
