- Most people have used cooking oil in their house and saw dust in their shed. So by putting these two items together, you can make your own fire logs and save yourself loads of money in the process.
EBay sell briquette makers cheap, so that's all you really need. The briquette maker compresses the oil and saw dust making it more concentrated which means it will burn longer.
NB. I recommend that you burn these logs in a closed environment like a pot belly stove, not an open fire due to the fact that your using cooking oil.
Fantastic idea
Hey, Alan... The disclaimer should read:
"If " you're *not sure what.. "
Not "your"
I won't be editing it. I'm sure people will understand it.
Can you just soak kindling in the oil.
That's up to you! yes, I'm sure you can.
I would think it would soot up your chimney pretty bad with the oil.
Just keep your chimney clean and regularly serviced.
You're right, it's a very bad idea which will cause problems in the flue. Chimney fires become more likely, which in older properties can unfortunately lead to house fires too.
Id just use some meth spirit in the making process so it absorbed into the sawdust and you'll be good
Great idea, but I don't find the "briquet maker" anywhere on ebay ! What's the name of the company that makes it ?
Here is an ebay link to a briquet maker:

check Northern Tool
Very good idea. Unfortunately I have has central heating but otherwise would do this to save money.
I make them for an elderly couple and they love that they last for so long and get great heat from them.
He was "told it burns good". Do you really want to smelll what's been cooked in that oil while enjoying your fire?
No smell as it's been used in a pot belly boiler.
you don't want your fire to smell like french fries or chicken wings? I do!
If you can smell products of combustion then you need to get your chimney swept. When used on a hot fire the smoke should all go up the chimney. Any smells in the room means potential carbon monoxide poisoning.
My grandchildren use a little more tape on presents.😂
