- The VIKINGS are waiting for the definitive novel about Ivarr the Boneless. They need wait no longer. THE SAGA OF IVARR THE BONELESS by Nabil Shaban, has arrived. Some may think it is possibly the greatest novel of the 21st century.
Ivarr the Boneless, a Danish Viking warlord of the 9th century, was born with a congenital disability which had the physical effect of restricting his growth, so that as an adult, he appeared of dwarf-like stature, and secondly, suffered from the bone condition of osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bones), which made his legs incapable of weight-bearing and unable to walk or stand. Thus, for mobility he had to be carried into battle, sitting on the back of a shield. This fictional story by Nabil Shaban, who also has the same impairments, is based on a narrative within an Icelandic saga about Ragnar Hairy Breeches. The saga describes how Ivarr the Boneless despite his disability, together with his brothers, invaded and conquered Northumbria, Mercia and East Anglia.
