    Hello there I recommend you to set the anchor leaving out 5 to 10 times your depth in scope, and putting into reverse backing up slowly until the anchor is set

    Great vid Trip. The next time, as long as the wind allows it, check out the North and West of Anclote Island. The water clarity is unbelievable, look for passing stingray’s and monster snook swimming by. There’s beautiful palms and a short stretch of washed out tree stumps closer to the north end. Caladesi Island is awesome as well. For boat ramps, Anclote is one of the worst experiences we’ve everyhad, especially when you’re in a flats boat. We normally utilize Edgewater Park in Dunedin or Seminole Park a little further south, in that order. Believe me when I tell you, we’ve launched at every ramp from Tampa Bay to Port Riches and those two are the best. Seminole also has a decent bait and boat marina as well. Keep up the great work Trip…Love the videos!

      @TripSmith  11 місяців тому

      Thanks Warren! I wish I could have checked that side out, but it just wasn't ideal. Interesting about the bad experience with the ramp. How was it trouble on the flats boat? Thanks for the info and for watching!

    Been living on my ‘77 mainship trawler a few years now I’m actually living in st Pete for the winter. I like your small set up. I couldn’t see what anchor you were rockin but go to west marine and get a rocna anchor one size bigger then you need with at least 20’ of chain (a great budget set up). I never once dragged in all these years, especially florida… also I recommend a good flashlight with good throw to spot those unlighted hazards that are everywhere! Or even a handheld FLIR. Olight and nitecore are great small battery set ups. Good luck bud keep it up

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  11 місяців тому

      Hey very cool!!! It's a Cooper Anchor, very similar to Rocna/Delta. There is a decent amount of chain. I can't recall when I measured it years ago but I want to say it was over 20'. Rode length wasn't the issue, it was the thick grassy bottom. I've never had it drag when anchor in sand and I've been in some nasty stuff. I had a large Nitecore onboard that I was using in a few shots, but I don't use it much to preserve my night vision. I would like to get a FLIR though!

    It didn’t look like you have enough anchor chain. You need at least 1 foot of chain for every foot of boat you have.

    You need to get yourself a better anchor if you plan on anchoring out. We've used the Anclote boat ramp quite a bit over the past 20 years. There are some theft issues there so be careful. One time we came back to find the LED tail lights gone off of our trailer. Another we came back and the tailgate had been stolen off of our truck.

    I downloaded the Ditch app I don't know how you received the blue boat traffic lines. It would be a helpful function and I would be so curious as to where other local boats have traveled. BTW I was born and raised in Tarpon Springs. I have been on the water all my life (65 years old) and worked family business working on Shrimp, Sponge and Commercial fishing vessels. I Love my hometown and there is no place on earth I would rather be. My father and son's ashes are spread on Lighthouse Island ( Anclote Key) as well as close friends that I dearly miss... Good show ... I enjoyed it. Love your boat...Very nice..!!!!

    What type of anchor is that? Looks way to small for your boat, like everyone says get a Mantus that is appropriate size for the boat. I always go up one size. Also you should have at least half of the lengh of your boat in chain, the more chain the better. You could have the best anchor on the market and it still wont hold if you dont have enough chain to hold the shank down so the flukes are at the correct angle to cut into the ground. Plus dont throw the anchor over the boat, when you do that the chain or rope will get under the anchor and foul it, lower the anchor while moving backwards either by engine or current. Once you have enough rode out, back down on the anchor until you feel the boat holding position. Thats my 2 cents worth.
    Thanks for the videos.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  11 місяців тому

      It's a Cooper Anchor, designed for up to 21' boats. Mine is very light for a 22'er so I went with it. If it bites, it holds me and it always bites unless there is grass. I have the just about the boat's length in chain or maybe a bit more. You can see that in the video as I pull it in. Thanks for the 2 cents. Yes, in some situations the rode could foul the anchor. When I'm in shallow water (most of the time) I throw it in a manor to separate the anchor from the rode.

    I love these boats. this and the 16. i just wish they had blackwater tanks in them. cassette toilets are illegal here for boats. to many people were just dumping their contents overboard.
    they would be great for the Canal runs, city hopping and such.
    wonder if you could give up one side of the v-birth for a toilet and holding tank area... Add a heater, bring a butane stove. extra fuel or extended tanks. And take week long trips up and down the river and lakes.

    What type of anchor were you using the first time you noticed you were dragging? I use a Danforth, two of them when necessary, and I've never dragged, even in grass. The bigger Danforth on the bow and a second, smaller Danforth on the stern when needed. But then, too, I've never slept on anchor, yet so im not anchored up that long. Im also wondering about the legality of sleeping aboard the boat. In nearly all of Pinellas County waters, it isn't legal. There are a few places that are still ok, like Boca Ciega Bay, or parts of it. Im not sure, but Anclote Key might actually be in Pasco waters 🤷. I live in Pinellas, but I've been up there at Anclote a few times. What strikes me is how very shallow it is around the island and how rare sandy bottom is. Your response would be very appreciated 👏 thumbs up 👍 on the video, though 👍 👌
    P. S. I know very little about camping or actually living abroad in Pasco.
    My boat only draws about 12" water on plane and when I anywhere near Anclote I'll hit bottom unless I stay in the channel that leads up to the dock/pier, close to the lighthouse. Then you dont want to drop anchor in the channel, of course. And there all the signs about it all being a research station, or some such, so I was saddened and disappointed that I couldn't disembark and go explore. Neat area for sure and so different from most of Pinellas waters to Anna Maria.

    Avast mate. Lol what are the odds I'm thinking about home. Been since 2015 that I last stepped in the waters around caledesi and honeymoon island. I grew up right next to where the road that goes out to honeymoon is and have spent many a day floating those waters. And let me tell ya sometimes it can get down so low that its ankle deep. I've seen my fair of boats runfowl of the reef especially rental boats and skis. Right now I'm stuck in the midwest of indiana. Where the days are cold wet and cloudy for several months out of the year and everything sucks. Were it not for my wifes family and my mom living here. I'd pack up and be gone tomorrow with me and my wife and the kids. I may be 37 but I belong on the water. And every day spent away from there rips at my soul and inner peace. Enjoy it for me. Heres a toast to you on the coast and all the sailors out at sea. Drink your ales hoist your sails ride the wind and think of me.

      I'm not a fan of those style of anchors for a few reasons. But they also do not do well on a grass bottom so there wouldn't have been much change in that situation. I don't know of any situation where the fortress/danforth style will out perform most plow types like the cooper I have.

May try cutting it out completely more often ;) Thanks man, I appreciate the constructive criticism.
