    The main problem I have is that I don't really feel the turbulence. The gauges bouncing around is the only cue, really. If you go into outside view you can see the wing flex, for sure - but I think it's important that the camera wobble is properly simulated. The sounds turbulence makes is absent, too. Hearing the cabin rattle would be a bit benefit I think.

All learning to fly through these fantastic videos by our real pilot. The education is unmeasurable, and for them freedom of flying through the wizardry and technology of ASOBO. It must be astonishing to them. It also comes at an affordable price, which means kids can use there brains that will help their life skills in many ways (Microsoft are making a difference in troubled counties to educate by flying that is fun - what a great way to learn). The thermals are far more sensible now, especially for GA aircraft. In the previous SU there were a few select approaches (under hot/dry conditions) that were practically impossible to complete, since a thermal would destabilize the approach at the critical point, and send the aircraft into a shallow climb, even with 5-10 degrees of nose DOWN. And it would happen in the exact same spot every time, without fail...
    So I'm very happy with this update, even if (as you say) the unfriendly conditions could be a bit more.. unfriendly.

      @A330Driver  Рік тому +1

      I've indeed experienced something like that in real life in 2019. For 3NM I needed 5° pitch down in order to keep the glide. Naturally the plane wouldn't decellerate either until we dropped the gear. We started getting worried about issues with the attitude indicators and instrumentation already when we eventually passed the thermal and got stabilized just above the gate. Luckily it was VMC so we could verify that our instruments were indeed not lying to us!

    • @g-stavflights4578
      @g-stavflights4578 Рік тому

      @@A330Driver Oh yes, 5 degrees down to maintain the glide can definitely happen! But to find yourself suddenly CLIMBING on approach despite a 5-10 degree ND correction was pretty over the top, so I'm glad the intensity of thermals has been adjusted in this update :). Cheers.

    In MSFS it all depends on the gusts strength. Sometimes 18kts wind will give you only +/-2kts gusts, and sometimes it can go over 10kts of difference. Also MSFS doesn't have roll turbulence modelled at all. You can inject these via FSRealistic, but it's generic, slider based strength.
    I think that XP11 with ASXP still has the best turbulence simulation available. XP12 with ASXP12 will follow.

    Really depends on the plane. I agree on the PMDG 737, it's pretty tame. On some other planes like Just Flight Piper Arrows it's completely bonkers. I can land the turbo arrow IV in 17kt crosswinds on low and medium consistently, but on realistic, I can't fly a simple circuit and final is absolutely insane, especially the last few feet as wind gusts toss me way of course, up / down and sideway.

    I flew IFR in VMC yesterday with winds roughly 5 to 10 kts. The only thing I noticed that seemed kind of strange was the tendency of the altitude hold (I'm using the JPLogistics/WB Cessna 152) to balloon a lot. I was having to adjust the throttle a lot to keep my airspeed from going up and down. Other than that, the swells were very smooth at least.

      Don't expect general aviation autopilots to be as accurate as airliner autopilots, you will see them to be much more sluggish which is exactly according to my experience in those aircraft.
      I'd suggest you don't try to chase your airspeed with the throttle though. Set your cruise power and forget it. If the plane flies a couple knots faster or slower that really doesn't matter. The 737 even does the same on autopilot ;-)

    Question do you guys use FSRealistic?

  • @MrBillUp
    @MrBillUp Рік тому +7

    So what they could do is, when you have set "realistic" in the settings, they could give us a slider that allows us to adjust the force one way or the other. Even if it was lets say -/+ 30% so we can fine tune the strength of turbulence. This would be ideal.

    • @denziiey
      @denziiey Рік тому +8

      But that's not realistic we don't control the weather. We have to deal with whatever conditions we are faced with.

    • @chucksadler4029
      @chucksadler4029 Рік тому +4

      @@denziiey That would make sense if the “realistic turbulence” was actually realistic. If it’s more extreme than real life, then a slider would actually make it more realistic.

    • @MrBillUp
      @MrBillUp Рік тому +1

      @@denziiey I take it you never watched the video right the way through, where Emi said the realistic setting is just slightly less than what he is used too in real life. If he had a slider, he could bump it forward by lets say 5% to achieve the realism he is expecting.

    • @WhiteHawk77
      @WhiteHawk77 Рік тому +2

      @@MrBillUp did he test all situations with differing amounts of turbulence in lots of different aircraft? No, and realistic it absolutely isn’t in all situations. The problem is that he tested with less turbulence than can happen in the sim, in fact it wasn’t even close to how bad it can get and in those situations in small aircraft it’s just not been real. The real problem isn’t so much how big the turbulence effect is even but how fast the acceleration of its effect is on the aircraft. The sim has a big issue with lack of weight feel and the turbulence shows that up once again because the turbulence CAN move the plane almost instantly as if it’s made of cardboard.

    • @MrBillUp
      @MrBillUp Рік тому +1

      @@WhiteHawk77 I don't want to be an arsehole, so I won't mention the lack of paragraphs and punctuation, although it did make it more difficult to read.
      From what I gather though, you are suggesting that Emi doesn't know what he is talking about, and doesn't know how to run tests. And even if he did, because the simulator doesn't depict turbulence in the correct manner, his findings would be flawed, and lack any real data.
      Yet when you speak to other real pilots who either use MSFS for fun, or are also content creators, they pretty much agree with Emi. Once the plane is in the air. The flight dynamics are really very good. Of course this is also dependent on what airframe you are using, and what developer modeled it?
      I also think the new turbulence model is a step in the right direction. It could be taken a step further though, in adding sliders instead of fixed default settings. We need adjustability so it can be dialed in.
      Of course you're never going to please everyone. Especially XP trolls, and people with little patients.

    Here’s a real life turbulence story. I flew in the US Navy on the P-3 and went on to become a flight test engineer when I got out. We were flying from the west to east coast US and when on the east side of the Rockies we got hit with a rotator wind storm. It’s the extreme turbulence on the downwind side. We got beat in the worst turbulence I’ve ever experienced in over 3,000 hours of flight in the P-3. We had a USMC C-130 trailing and 2,000 feet below us. I could hear the fear in the C-130 pilots voice as he nearly begged to go higher to get out of the turbulence. They had injuries aboard his aircraft and our position prevented him from climbing. Our pilot told ATC we’d try to climb and for the C-130 pilot keep a visual on us and follow. The turbulence was so severe we cracked a 3 inch mono crystalline window in our belly from the torque on the airframe. We were able to climb so the turbulence declined from continuous extreme turbulence’s to intermittent severe. I actually had bruising across my waist from the lap belt. Fun times.

      @@mick001 This comment is a bit out of date in 2023. The atmospheric simulation kicks sand in the face of the weather simulation of Xplane. One of the issues msfs developers are facing is to code around and model around the very sensitive atmospheric simulation in msfs. And this takes time, more time we would actually like it too. We see lots of "comparison" videos and comments like this one This is becoming more of an ego trip and click bait type efforts to divide the community.
      Seeing that we sit in static chairs and static screens with no momentum or inertia, realism claims either way seems futile, because there is even differences in opinion between real life pilots, let alone simmers who think they know how things work.
      One fact, however, is that the flight model between xplane and msfs have reached a point of convergence. sim what you like, but the claim that xplane is better has become like a bland plate of food. Gives you something to do but achieves very little. With the flight model alike, then the rest of the sim platform is miles in the favour of msfs

      The Fenix might well have played a role in this. I find it to have quite a heavy loss of lift for gaining/loosing only a few knots of airspeed in the Vref+5 to Vref+15 region, thus requiring a LOT of corrections from the pilots on the pitch. Try with another airliner and see how that goes.

    Hey Captain, I'm going to watch your video right now after writting those words hh... of course I don't know yet if you will talk about Realism not "realism" (I anticipate lol) because we are many real pilots and harcore simmers to dig for realism and to raise votes on the forum in order to get added very important and crucial features in terms of Realism concerning the weather...
    During my first training to get my first licence (PPL) one thing that you have been trhough as well was to care about the weather before getting on the tarmac knowing that the weather and its dangers in the skies is the corner stone in Aviation for safety purposes. TS/CB could be lethal for small to big birds as we well know.
    I do expect that SU12 deals with that for the sacrosanct sake of realism, means that I can't consider the sim realisitc if the base of realism is not there as to fly a C152 right into TC/TCU/CB without any severe up/downdraft that could go to 10 000 ft in the worst case and about what could badly happen if we, by accident or else, get into TS with a C172 or even a B777.
    Hopefully Asobo will take their promises like unlocking the vertical winds for SU12 ("unlimited" as they said in previous Q&A!), Turbulence in clouds in CB which will make sense to keep the seat belt ON (after FL100 for instance) and Engine Ice ON if we go through those clouds etc unless it's just cosmetic, "arcade mode" somehow if I want to stress this out!
    Unfortunatelly so far the "msfs turbulence system" do not represent any danger that could occure in RL, because no matter what the METAR/TAF predict in severe weather conditions we can still fly a Cub safely with a cup of coffee on the right hand into CB, which doesn't offer an accurate and realistic picture of real skies for non-pilots.
    Hopefully it did change because the concern here that some of us have now is that yesterday after the SU 12 released, we were chasing for TS but we didn't find any despite of METAR data that shown many spots on earth including Sigmet TS/TCU etc...
    I have no idea if msfs detect TS so far, TS which must to be avoided as we do know for sure...
    Let's see how it goes...
    Now I can watch your video hhh, my pleasure! ;-)
    EDITED:
    I just watched it, I second that 100%! ... ground turb is very well done imo but severe weather conditions is way too friendly, same here I would expect more inputs on the ailerons during the approach no doubt and more turbulence on top of it... It's not the turbulence that is too strong, it's the Fenix Fly By Wire and flight dynamics that just aren't up to the job. They've got amazing systems and visuals, but manual flight and the flight model is a point where the Fenix hugely lacks.

  • @quantomic1106

    (Live weather) MSFS wind physics especially surface winds is programmed by a five-year-old. I've flown a hand full of GA aircraft in real life around various types of weather but I've never once used full rudder deflection just to stay on the centerline. The thing I really hate the most is that crosswinds on the ground only take effect above a certain speed. When taxiing below 20 knots, the plane behaves as it supposes to but once I get a knot over, all of a sudden, crosswinds take effect with the power of Zeus blows you off the center and you have to use considerable rudder input to compensate. Correcting this by putting your aileron into the wind will cause your nose to oscillate as all of a sudden there's no more crosswind. And oh, all of this within a crosswinds component of 10 knots smh. I've taken off near a thunderstorm with a piper arrow in real life with a gust of 35 knots and never had this silly problem. This is why seldom use Live Weather in the sim.

    The only thing I noticed is that as you fly the turbulence seems to be a programmed oscillation more than it is turbulence. Set ap and fly a straight line, you will see the same "turbulence" effect over and over again like a loop. And if you speed up time, you will see the "turbulence" is the same effect repeated. It doesn't feel bad, it just feels scripted. Turbulence should feel random, not like a repetitive programmed wobble in the plane! But as it is, it seems to repeat the same effect over and over instead of randomly affecting the plane differently every time. I flew 200mi at 5000ft and watched the same turbulence hit the plane the same way, for over 200miles!!!! It's better than it was, but still seems repetitive and fake.

You also failed to mention the ridiculous amount of YAW correction you needed on the ground after landing on both the 737 and the Baron. I have never, ever seen such a wild yaw-on-the-ground ride in any aircraft in real life as I see in MSFS. Why did you completely leave this absent in your comments? If you shoot multiple landings in the same weather scenario you will notice that each requirement for correcting is repeated almost predictably, as though it was not random but artificially programmed. This is the giveaway in MSFS. It is not a turbulence simulation. It is STILL baked in turbulence.
