Got the huge pleasure of hearing [and meeting!] Amy at Seven Steps Up, a small venue in Spring Lake, MI. I have gone to many concerts in my time, but this one was the very best! The acoustic set was in a venue with almost perfect acoustics and Amy's set was equally flawless. One thing about her performances; she sounds just as good in person and live as she does in the studio. If you haven't had the pleasure of one of her concerts, get on the stick right now and order tickets to a performance nearby. She seems to be everywhere nowadays.
I saw Dave do this song many years ago. I've been using it in my US History 1 class since then. Amy's right - this is one of those songs that touches the heart, as well as enriches the soul. Nicely done!!!
The Louisiana Orphan Train Society, Inc. wrote a book titled "From Cradle to Grave: Journey of the Louisiana Orphan Train Riders." It's very educational. It has 89 biographies of orphans who came to Louisiana from New York City. See more at www.amazon.com/Cradle-Grave-Journey-Louisiana-Orphan/dp/1936707004 A portion of the proceeds go to help the Louisiana Orphan Train Society, Inc and their museum.
My uncle, my father and my aunt rode the orphan train, no one took any of them they grew up in the Corsicana Tx ophanage, my Aunt cried and cried she thought no one would ever love her because she had red hair.
Interesting you should say so! Long ago I compared Amy's voice with Joan's. At this point in history, I would give Amy the edge, even at Joan's height.

One of two songs that ever brought a tear to my eye because I have a brother I dearly love and has been my best friend my entire life.
One of my favorite songs from a fine singer - songwriter, David Massengill!
Beautiful..... Thank you, Amy Speace and David Masengill.

How did I miss this?
It does not get better!
Great cover of this heartfelt song song!!
Is this on her CD?
I really like her voice, soothing, yet haunting. She kinda reminds me of Joan Baez.
