On this episode of JC Trails we are continuing our ride down one of the fastest trails in Pisgah National Forest, Black Mounatin Trail.
The old rutted out Black Mountain was probably the best downhill run on the entire East Coast.

After riding both multiple times... the new one is longer and more fun!

A few weeks ago we shuttled up to Glub Gap and rode Buckwheat to Bennet and then did lower Sycamore before riding back to The Hub. I do love some Middle to Lower. It's my go-to trail route most of the time.

If you do the shuttle again, I would recommend trying Pilot > Buckwheat > Bennet or Pilot > Avery. You still have to climb Club Gap, but you skip all of the hike a bike at upper black and both of those routes are a blast. You would just park at the gravel road leading to the horse stables instead of parking at The Hub.
I'm sure what you did was a blast, but I suspect you spent an extra 45min+ going across upper black mountain. Some sweet views for sure, but also a good bit of hiking. I also get wanting to do all of the black mtn trails if it is your first time there, because they are amazing trails.
Good recommendations. Hopefully I can get back soon and rip these trails!
we did avery laps the next day and black again... I've ridden just about every trail down there multiple times and I think the shuttle from pilot rock to black full pull is really hard to beat
@@Projectnortheast Black is definitely fun, and I meet people all the time who like doing the full thing like you did. I personally just don't prefer the hike a bike section of upper. I prefer to ride upper upper going west, and I'd rather climb maxwell and climb upper to turkeypen, then turn around for the eastern parts. To each their own though - it is really hard to have a bad time on those trails.
If you get a chance, try Pilot > Buckwheat > Bennet > Climb Clawhammer & Maxwell > Mid & Lower Black. Or swap Buckwheat & Bennet with Avery. Similar effort imo, but I like it more.
@Jon Calhoun I've ridden all those trails in different order and I can see the desire to ride them that way. My struggle is always I'm there for a quick visit so how can I get the most out of the rides for multiple days in a row without killing ourselves 😅

@@Projectnortheast ive done a lot of pisgah and the hike a bikes..not doing that one again lol. But I recommend everyone do it just once because the views are amazing!
