A 21 day fast would be intense. So I don't recommend an absolute fast: no food. No water .I wouldn't recommend no food only water either bc that's 21 days!!! I would recommend 1 of 2 options fasting most of the day for 21 days drinking water. Or I would recommend cutting out pleasurable food and sticking to vegetables . Forgive me if this is bad advice I just feel like those 2 options would be the safest

Can you drive into the non-food fast a little more? It doesn't seem that the bible ever actually used the word "fast" when talking about anything other than food and non-water drink. Would you still consider a non-food fast to be a true biblical fast? Why or why not? My church is in a series on fasting right now and they are saying that you can abstain from non-food items and it can still be good, but it would not be considered a fast, and we are expected to fast. However, I have trouble believing that it is good for everyone to fast (no food or drink other than water), such as people with medical issues, or those that struggle with their relationship with food that used to restrict too much, and fasting could be extremely tempting to them, showing how easy it is (for them, not for everyone) without eating for a period of time.
I talk about it more in depth in my free fasting course, you can find it on my website. In short, yes the Bible always includes food when talking about fasting. But sometimes people need to start somewhere and progress towards that. Also there are rare cases when people can't fast food. That is very rare though. Most people use that as an excuse to not challenge themselves.

Fasting is the denial of food while seperating from worldly things are consecration.
