  • A new study has found that many academy schools do not offer religious education, with the Father of the House of Commons stating this leaves a “gaping hole” in the school curriculum.
While the number of students taking religious studies GCSE has risen by nearly a third over the last decade, no Government money has been spent on the subject over the last five years.

Personally no I think the parents should teach faith and it should be taught in church’s schools shouldn’t be taught in schools why not replace RS (religious studies) with a British values and laws class.

When in Rome indeed.........! Not so long ago a Christian country was able and willing to teach it's Children about it's beliefs and the religion they followed, witout fear nor favour. Now after opening it's arms to immigrants of all creeds, colours and ethnicities it has found its beliefs and history to be ridiculed and torn apart by following generations of those same peoples. Instead of holding on to the hand that helped them and gave them a home, they have instead squeezed it until it's bones have been crushed, Now comes the ultimate insult and crushing blow........Get rid of all they held dear and slap them in the face. It;s our country now and these weak, woke wankers will let us have it all...... I am sorry to say i am ashamed, sad and bitter. And here are the bright brains of England debating wether or not to stop RE....they should be ashamed to even be discussing such a dangerous and traitorous deed. What values? I don't value belief in miracles and the supernatural or the worship of an inexplicable all knowing, all powerful cosmic genie that somehow exists without cause or explanation.... I don't value substitutional atonement, the idea that the torture/murder of an innocent somehow atones for what the guilty do. Most of all i don't value the threat of eternal torment in hell fire for those who don't buy into the script. I find especially repugnant instilling fear into children with this with this idea. Most of the UK are not even Christian anymore.

@@socksumi well you are allowed to believe what you wish; with some other religions it can be different, so that's a Christian value as is the non execution of apostates. Also some people believe advertisements and that a new product will make their life better - is that true? Just my observations.

    • @socksumi

@@peterbarkworth951 In a public school no one has the right to indoctrinate my children with religious claims that they hold by faith. Teaching ABOUT religion is acceptable but not teaching a particular religion is true. I am okay with a comparative religions course that covers the major religions from a historical perspective. As long as none of them are taught as "the one true religion". We also need a critical examination, not one that panders to religion or pressures students to believe that a god exits. The state has no proof of that and therefore no right claiming spectral/supernatural things as fact.

@@socksumi As I said in Poland about 98% of children attend RE classes. Parents have a choice, but most think it's a good thing. No one is forced to go to church. As for the UK, well I'm not there so often these days, so I don't know how optional it is. But, having seen Polish nuns in action, as it were, I can see why people believe in God - they do a really good job for everyone. My other point about children in any country not getting RE is that they may lose out on part of their heritage - not a good thing.
Another aspect is that parents might have a choice about RE, but in England they don't seem to get choice about gender identity and LGBT issues being taught/indoctrinated in schools - that seems odd to me. Nice discussion.
