- This is a beautiful ballad by ELPs Greg Lake. The lyrics are rather open for interpretation. This is one of those bucket-list tunes I've wanted to learn for 40 years. Finally got to it with the help of the Covid quarantine and a new Breedlove Pursuit Concert 12 string.
Best cover of this very difficult song I've ever heard. And true to form on a 12 string!
I Agree
Great guitar playing...
AWESOME!!!!
I have heard so many versions of this song and this is the best. Great job.
Great job. Seriously!
Excellent. thank you.
Very nicely played and sung.
Very good Johnny.. funny because I was doing the same thing with this song during covid. i remember watching this live version thinking, Greg is chewing gum and effortlessly just picking this like nobody's business. once you get the tuning down. it is a great song to play. Your vocals are pitch on. good job
Bravo
Great job. Thanks for posting.
Great job Johnny, singing and playing. Other than Andy at Shut Up and Play, you're the only one playing the correct chords. Cudos to you.
Lovely!
Beautiful.
Awesome rendition!
Great job, man!!!
Greg Lake is a hard act to follow but you did an amazing job! Beautiful song that is truly for the romantic at heart.
Great cover of a difficult and beautiful song!
Exceptionally well done....... voice and guitar....... perfection
Great job and spot on... Cheers!
very good playing & singing!!!!
I love this song it brings out the romantic in me!!!!!
excellent
very nice
Parfait !
Beautifully done I want to learn this. I see you have an old stereo system still. Lucky you. I bet you play Brain Salad Surgery on it.
Ottima versione, bravo 👏 …. solo dovresti masticare un chewing-gum 😀
Great job. You’ve got a great voice for this song. It’s always hard to me to do arpeggios and to not screw up the singing. This is one of the best if not the best cover of this song I’ve heard thus far. Thanks for the post. I’ve just started learning it. Thanks, I saw ELP in the Capital Theater, a small venue in Salt Lake City in the 90’s and it was amazing to see them all together one last time before Emerson and Lake passed. Their music is an Iconic treasure.
Thanks for the kind words Robert. Yes, 12 string arpeggiation is especially difficult with the closer spacing of strings. I've gotten a little better with arpeggios since acquiring the 12 string. Keep at it, the singing will come.
Thanks I always loved this song. A legend gone. Love it in tx
Impressive. Not easy to do and you made it look easy.
you nailed it! awesome job! I never really liked the album version of this song but the acoustic is one of my favorites..Greg Lake would be happy if He heard you perform this
yes the LP version had much to be desired.
Awesome !!!!!
very awesome bro!!!
I just viewed this again and realized... It's just you singing and the guitar. I never realized before how much this song is just Greg and his guitar for the most part. It works wonderfully as just a solo without Keith and Carl. Again, very well done.
Well done. Not an easy song to sing or play guitar. Great rendition
Wow! Great job on such a beautiful song!
This is great, very well done. I've always loved the song, though the lyric of "someone get me a ladder" is beyond me....
Thanks, clever songwriting often contain ambiguous lyrics. American Pie, Blackbird, American Woman and Jackson Browne's Rosie are a few great examples. I believe this tune is about the life of a Rock Star. It's the guitar or rush of performing that turns him on. I think the ladder reference is that it can all be overwhelming and he needs a way out.
i cannot believe you thought the same thing i have always thought .
I sing a different lyric when doing this..... I cant get past that ladder reference either. Absolutely beautiful song and a brilliant cover!
He is saying it's getting deep in here.

i though that few people were fans of this beautiful song. your version is really good and hope you do "Closer to Beginning" also. Bravo !!!
Too smooth to move really good job ..🎶🎸🎶
This came up in my playlist while i was driving and I thought it was Greg! Lol
Very well done indeed.
Excellent....Bass line incredible. Hybrid picking right on the money. Greg would comment.
Thanks man. You've reminded me I need to play the song again before I forget it. It's been a couple of years.
Beautiful ❗️
soooo good but dark gloss not glass. i have to learn this song. thank you
Two words: NICE JOB!
Want to learn this song too. Really good job.
That was excellent!
magical!!
fantastic !!
Love it ❤️
Is there any way that a 6-string chord voicing version could sound anywhere near as good as this cover? Also, can you share what open tuning you used to capture the ELP/Lake chord voicings so accurately?
The low E string pair is tuned down to D. The other strings are in standard tuning.
DigiTech makes a 12 string emulator called Mosiac. Other than that you could try a chorus or phase shift pedal.
@@zing1music Thanks, appreciate your insights.
Best version I’ve heard yet great job
Rather nicely done chief. Working on this myself.
Thanks, arpeggiation is kind of tough on a 12 string. I normally play finger style on acoustic and it took some time and discipline to play it smoothly.
Love this song!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Much appreciated . Well played Sir !
Thank you kindly!
This gave me chills, Bravo Sir!
Thank you.
This is beautiful.
