    It's not marked as a bushcraft knife, but as a hunting knife, at least here in Norway.

    The Helle Eggen leather sheath got cut open on day one. I ordered a new sheath, one built by a craftsman. It is still being built but ill be much more durable
    I can confirm using a firestick with Helle knifes is not a good combo. The quality of the blades is amazing though. I own 4 knifes now, I have only complaints about the sheaths and handles.
    For bushcrafting I bought a Muela Jabali knife and a Hultafors axe. Not going for Helle for these items

    An accurate and well done review. You brought up all very worthy and valid points. A Bushcraft knife that will not produce good sparks and the fear of chopping because of its tendency to ride up in your hand and no batoning sounds like I’ll choose another model. And the blade retention in the sheath is another disappointment. Thanks for sharing your review and your honesty BC. ATB Mike

    That's too bad about all your findings. It's beautiful as well as a good size knife. I find it very peculiar that something like that as a field knife can't do a lot that it's suppose to or requirements out in the field. Just very weird. Good coverage brother. I know I'm thankful. Cheers! 👊🏼🤠

      Helle makes great knives brotha... the temagani is my favourite knife. I just disagree with helle in the design and purpose likelly a rushed attempt to get in on the "bushcraft knife" fad

    If you have to baton with a knife you must be in a do or die situation, and if this is the case, anything with a sharp edge will do.

    Very good review very fairly commented on. To fix the sheath retention, you "could" pour some warm/hot water into the sheath, then wet form it around the blade/handle to provide a better hold. Wrap the Knife in plastic wrap, before you wet the sheath to protect the blade.

    Thanks for your video. 1) warranty is false insurance. Are you worried that your knife will break and not be replaced, or are you just worried that your knife will break. It seems to me the latter is important and honestly when is the last time anybody tried to lay claim on a warranty for a broken knife. I mean ESEE brags about their no-condition lifetime warrenty, but if any of my ESEE's busted on me, I think I'd just pick up my boots and move on. It feel it really is just a weak excuse to point that out and claim it a fault of a knife. Most people have no problem batoning their buck 119's even when it spells out quite clearly that it voids the warranty. Yes, I know a buck 119 costs $80 and a Helle $200 plus, but my point it is that its not the worth of a knife that makes any difference. It is your faith in a knife that counts and that is only built through time and your experience with a blade. If you handed me that knife, I would baton it :) 2) Spine - firesteel sparking. Okay, hit that shit [pardon the language] with with a file for five minutes and square it up. Honestly, people want to buy stuff out of the box to meet their own specs but sometimes you just modify a knife to make it yours. I hated the ramp on my bravo one.....okay, I ground that thing off. It took some time, it ain't as pretty as BR doing it. Do I complain about the bravo-1 (even if I knew I could of bought a rampless version). No, I wanted to buy it and I wanted to try it. Didn't like it. Ground it off. You don't like the way your spine scrapes? [like most mora's] You file it down and make it your knife. That is the beauty with tools like this. Don't get caught up in the out-of-box experience. I hate watching youtuber's hand massage their knife and not test them. You did some testing and gave us your opinion. That WAS GOOD!
    Thanks for your other videos on the Helle knives. I do hope to purchase a Wabakimi one day and my wife and I would love to haul it to Lake Wabakimi (lower) in Wabakimi Park and contemplate Les' adventures in that park like we have done with Kevin Callahan's Wendell Beckwith's adventure. I know the spot in Wabakimi Lake where I'd build a fire and camp and a Helle would work within that image. Take care, and as much as I seem like a cynic, I like your content. Keep it up. Ken.

    I don't know how Helle messed up this one. That finger choil has no place there. The rest of the handle has a more wide profile and looks more bloated than it should.

    • @BackcountryKing
      @BackcountryKing  5 років тому +1

      I think it was a rushed attempt at a "bushcraft" knife with limited user testing and input

      @@BackcountryKing It is as if they dug a prototype design, from when they were starting as knifemakers or took the design from the boss's 12 year old nephew. LOL!

    Great knife review, Steven!! I totally am with you. I always value a knife that I can baton with because it’s a great option! Also, even though many times I’ve been tempted by how gorgeous Helle knives are, i’m not crazy about the fact that u can’t use a ferrorod with them

    • @BackcountryKing
      @BackcountryKing  5 років тому

      Thanks Michelle! Im sure i could baton with it but their stance on it makes me not want to try it... i will say the temagami, mandra, wabakimbi all hit the mark and are great tools but i just dont agree with the concept they came up with for such a large blade that they didnt think through.

    Stop chopping down saplings and live trees, a knife is a knife not an axe and Scandi grinds are best for cutting/carving not chopping.

    • @BackcountryKing
      @BackcountryKing  5 років тому +4

      A knife needs to be tested in multiple scenerios and there is clear cutting for a condo development exactley 300 metres from where i filmed this so i have zero issues cutting the sapling considering it will all be cut down for homes long before the saplings blossom. If you watched my other videos i explain the land im on and how it will all be clear cut soon

    Sorry but your ferorod technique is more than poor. Look at how Paul Kirtly does it i.e.
    Secondly being able to take it out of a dangling sheath with one hand is very important. So a knife that’s stuck is useless in my opinion.

      Lol do some homework bro or watch my other 150 videos where i start fires.... if u can get a fire going with a coated blade I suggest you toss away your hard earned money on that Helle Knife and use it in the woods.

  • @caribooadventures7898

    So I'm gonna use a knife for cutting,an axe/hatchet for chopping and splitting, a ferro rod and striker for making a fire. People need to learn that a tool is meant for a certain task. Figure it out. It's a gear knife, when used as a knife not as a striker or a axe. Who batons with a knife!

    • @irkairenka8552
      @irkairenka8552 3 роки тому

      That depends of situation. I would like to have my bushcraft knife to be as versatile as possible.
      In situation when one is lost in forest, having knife which can be easily used for batoning, starting a fire ( so it needs to have flit attached to sheath), chopping, etc. can be a life saving situation.
      Especially for +120 euro 🔪
