What happened to Inkscape's CMYK?

- This week I bring you an interview with Inkscape veteran contributor Josh Andler who was there when Inkscape's first attempt to build color managed cmyk support was added, and we go into why these types of projects fail despite being in such massive demand.
TLDW; Users must get involved. Financially, organisationally. Programmers are not sufficient champions and must have people who take the business of software development seriously and who can engage users to provide those resources.
I think that CMYK is one of those features where a whole class of new users will take another look at Inkscape. I'm excited for the future and we'll get there when we get there is my attitude, we appreciate your work even if people seem ungrateful at times.
Hello, I know that cmyk is a limitation for inkscape, but I use the scribus alternative and let's say it works, and the truth is that we demand but we don't see how hard the work is and how little financial support we provide. Thank you for your dedication and help to those of us on the other side of the screen
Wow! This was a great insight into the history of CMYK. I'm more excited for 1.5 than 1.4 :p personally, but 1.4 is shaping up to be a solid release.
CMYK is a great chance for Inkscape. And as always: thank for your work. It's very important!
Inkscape for Printing Industries is Real 🎉❤
CMYK is great. so everyone can use inkscape in printing production .
people already use inkscape in printing despite the "cmyk" limitation, to be fair the work gets imported to different program for color correction is needed, am sure you know even saving the work in cmyk printing colors are going to vary and for that youd need printing-color proofing :)
i printed few works directly from inkskape, i was surprised what i got was actually better than i anticipated/wanted, because you have to take into consideration where did you do your concept .... for printing i advice you to buy an IPS based Screen rather than a LED/OLED/AMOLED/SuperAmoled screens, as an LCD IPS screen almost have the same gamut as cmyk thus giving you better feedback on colors you're using
Maybe we could find Cmyk palettes in Inkscape? It's quite long to work on color one by one...
That is the only thing I need
Use swatches, set them up ones use them later, also you can install color pallets.
We need to wait for the CMYK work to be finalized before we can create the palletes, templates, tutorials,...
Thanks guys
please let us know .. estimate date of version of inkscape 1.4
excellent
good.
Nice
Just wondering , with so much hype around AI, are AI tools like chatgpt, Claude etc. not useful to find and fix CMYK issues?
No, not in any way. Because what's needed is expertise, not grunt work. We'd still need someone with the know how to check all the work is actually correct. A lot of AI code is complete trash, and a lot of it's logic is hopelessly broken.
And that doesn't each touch on the design aspects, or in the previous video's, the UX concepts that have to be researched.
@@doctormo you are right it is all about the expertise
@@doctormo So, another 8 to 16 months before it starts to get useful. Got it.
i can´t undertand why inkscape have to be only one svg editor and have suport for cmyk for print.
i defend that if cmyk is important inkscape must be a vector editor with svg support
pdf is most important than svg for print
Inkscape IS svg, there is no separating svg from inkscape. SVG is not imported or exported, it is literally the internal memory of the program.
As for PDF, that bugbear should go to the folks at Cairo, who rejected the notion of anything other that RGB for their PDF output.
Just curious, how did the pathfinder replacement project go? I remember seeing the replacement being discussed but didn't follow up after that.
how to use hex code in Inkscape?
The fill and stroke dialog?
@@doctormo yes
so the rambling on about the history of how you got there is really not as important as where it is at the moment... rather focus on the present.
We've been waiting for you to fund the project Craig. What is important is set by those that invest, if you are sitting on the sidelines waiting for other people to do the heavy lift then you have no right to complain. Sit down.
