1. The Russians diverted the Amu Sea from its natural path leading to the Aral Lake to the Caspian Sea through large irrigation canals in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, especially the Karagum Canal, and brought about a million hectares of agricultural land under cultivation in Turkmenistan. The old Amo sea no longer remains. Aral lake dried up and its dust affected the entire region including Afghanistan.
2. The passage of these canals through areas with saline underground water caused the level of saline water to rise and turned many lands into salt marshes. After 60 years, Turkmenistan is still struggling to eliminate the salinization of its agricultural lands.
3. When the countries of Central Asia started to build unilateral fortifications on the shores of the Amu Darya and the sea shifted towards Afghanistan, and every year hundreds of hectares of agricultural land on the shores of Afghanistan fell prey to the Amu Darya, and this process continues every year.

Ghoshtepe water canal is one of the largest water supply canals in Afghanistan and the region, which will be built at a cost of 15 million dollars from Kaldar in Balkh province with a length of 285 km, a width of 100 meters and a depth of 6.5 meters to Andkhoi in Faryab province.
Every 43 kilometers of this water canal is supposed to be built in one year. The Ghosh Canal of Andkhoi Hill is implemented in 3 phases and its water passes through Khalm, Nahrshahi, Daulatabad, Balkh and reaches Aqcheh, Mardian and Khajah Dukoh of Jawzjan Province and flows from there to Andkhoi in Faryab Province. On the way of this big water channel, several waterworks, irrigation systems and small dams have been considered for electricity generation, which will save 9 billion cubic meters of water and 600 thousand hectares of dry land will be converted into water land in one year. This project is implemented in 3 phases.
First phase:
The first phase starts at 108 km from the bank of Amu River in Kaldar Balkh to Daulat Abad Balkh.
The second phase:
The second phase is 177 km long from Daulat Abad Balkh to Andkhoi Faryab.
third phase:
The third phase is allocated to the distribution of agricultural land.
If this important project is completed, the economic power of the northern region of Afghanistan will increase significantly, especially in the field of agriculture. With its high-quality and fertile land and geographical and climatic conditions, this area can be a supplier of many agricultural items even for the region. If we proceed based on a correct economic policy, by exploiting this channel, Afghanistan alone can supply not only its own wheat, but also the wheat of the countries in the region.
