One of the many things I love about this game that no other seems to pull off, are the character interactions and relationships. Like, what does McRee think of Diva and Bastion? Can’t remember? Neither do I. This is because that cast is so bloated that you can’t express most relationships in game via voice lines. But everyone in TF2 either hates the others that counter them or thinks everyone else is dumb/cowardly/a loser and they will express it in their own way. Example if the Spy or Scout do well and dominate the enemy heavy, they will insult him by fat shaming him. But even those are unique. With the Scout throwing out the most playground level of insult, while the Spy formulates a more sophisticated and less directly insulting version. Even if they are saying thank you to their teammates, they do it in a way that shows that they think of him. Like how Heavy yells “Enignier is credit to team!” after taking a teleporter a friendly Engie placed, while the Spy thanks in an incredibly classist way that shows how little he thinks of him by saying “good job laborer”. It makes the Mercs so much more memorable, even if their designs and gameplay is relatively basic.
this is an amazing point that i agree with! the character animations hit so perfectly it’s hard to describe. making this video also gave me an excuse to watch all the “Meet The X” series. they all have so much personality it’s amazing. and since they don’t have 35 characters all their interactions can be SUPER deep and complex. overall a banger game

One other thing that I love about TF2, is how punishing it can be to die. In TF2 there are a few characters that get stronger over time or have an alternative weapon that gives them sort of an ultimate. Like the Demoman’s eyelander, which gives you bonus health and speed for every melee kill you get, the Engineer can erect a high level sentry and support buildings, the Soldier’s banners give a temporary AOE buff to you and your friends and the Medic can grant godlike power to someone with his Uber. All of these are terrifying but there is an easy way to prevent them from becoming a problem. Just shoot them. All the things they built up during the life is lost on death, meaning that such power is a reward for playing well, supporting your team and staying alive. But it also gives easy to understand direct counter-play. Which leads to one of my bigger gripes with Overwatch mechanically. Since everyone has an “Ultimate” and the charge isn’t completely gone on death, it means that if someone has a strong ultimate, it’s out of my control if I die to them, since they are effectively an eventuality and everyone has them, making them less interesting individually. If the Engineer has a level 3 sentry in a hard to attack spot, this is on my (or at least my team) because we didn’t stop him from making that turret, when it was weak. And when the enemy Medic pops Uber, that’s on my team for not taking him out in time. But the same also goes the other way, if I can’t live long enough to build up Uber, it means that I need to work on my survival skills as Medic. If I lose my Demoknight’s 4 heads, odds are that I just got too greedy and over extended. Which forces me to play more carefully and value my life. If you wish to her closer to the community and receive one of the best tools for beginners, I’d recommend that I’d you check out the “How it feels to play” series from Lazypurple. Where he explains the mentality and understanding of the individual characters well. Like how Spy turns from this unstoppable monster, into an almost harmless bunny once he get’s discovered. Or how learning how to Rocket Jump as Soldier makes you feel powerful and gives you a massive rush.
I always thought Spy said "Thank you Le Bon" or "Thank you good-one," but the wiki says laborer too. I guess I've been hearing it wrong the last 6 years
My absolute favourite voice line is when a Soldier dominates a Demoman and says “Scotland is not a real country, your just an english man with a dress”
It legitimately warms my heart to know that people to this very day are STILL discovering TF2 for the first time and falling in love with it. This is one of, if not my absolute favorite game of all time and the fact that it's still going after 15 fucking years is insane to me. It has a charm that will never be replicated by anything else and I sincerely hope it lives another 15 years. Hope to see more TF2 content from you.
Long-time player of 7 years here, and it's nice seeing a newcomer having fun with it and taking in the experience. I love this game, have over 2,000 hours on it, and I haven't regretted a second. EDIT: About the cases, Valve pioneered the modern microtransaction and loot boxes with TF2. They weren't the first to have microtransactions in their game, but they were by far the first to take the idea and become super successful.
@@kel_ski there is a whole trading economy people dont really hate the loot box system since there are alternatives tho these are pretty hard to get into trading in 2022 is pretty hard but doable one of the most expensive tf2 items is the unusual burning team captain which costs over bit of 1k dollars i believe havent checked in a while
@@kel_ski it's an ocean's gray waves neither black or white and beside there are other ways to get hats in the games (which is the main reason of these creates) just play for a real while and eventually you will get enough weapons to make into enought refined metal which can turn into a random hat (it takes 4 refined metal which is 12 reclaimed metal which is 36 scrap metal or in other words 72 weapon, and you will get a lot of weapons while playing this addicting game)

There are plenty of hats and cosmetics worth less than 4 ref, and you don't have to leave anything to luck. What you see is what you get.
Regards to the Scream Fortress update, every year community maps, cosmetics, and more are added to the game in the theme of halloween, but the community content made for this year were just really really good.

personally, it's new perspectives like these that are the reason we shouldn't take F2P players for granted as they are the key to putting new blood into the community. so everyone in those servers who kept from toxicity and kicked the bots the second they came, my salutations go out to you for keeping a fresh perspective of the game positive. bravo.
Keys are never usually used for crates instead acting as a stable currency for trading because scrap metal and ear buds(old cosmetic item) can be a little bit unstable.
there are so many whacky things you can do in this game. some of my favorites are: trying to get in the weirdest places with rocket jumping or sentry jumping, medic-chaining, waiting with the cloak and dagger to always backstep the same guy, exploring community maps, set up sentries in the most random spots (preferably next to health kits), troll with a medic-spy-combo (your friend as spy on the enemy team while you heal him), and so much more, but mostly the stupid situations that emerge when interacting with people in this game
@@kel_ski Just avoid the Steam forums. Everyone just argues and trolls on them. This can generally just apply to any game on Steam though. Everywhere else people are generally nice.
What's great about the mercs is that they have strengths and weaknesses that balance them out. Scout: Fast, but low health and can die easily. Soldier: primary is powerful, but not immediate like other mercs. The rockets take time to hit. Pyro: strong up close, weak from far. Demo: Like Soldier. Heavy: lots of health, massive damage, but not great at range and slower than cement. Enginer: Can build helpful buildings, but if the buildings are destroyed, there isn't much more he can do. Medic: Great for helping, Not for damage. Sniper: Great at ranges, but when aiming gets tunnel vision and not to great at close to medium range. Spy: French, but French. Each of the weaknesses can be countered by good playing of said character, but otherwise, they are extremely balanced.

I'm so glad you liked this game so much. It's been one of my favorites for years, it's nice to see someone new having a good time. The game do be dated in the settings department so if you ever play again I'd recommend looking up how to set up the advanced settings and changing your viewmodel fov, etc. I hope to see more TF2 content from you if you ever dive back into it. Maybe give MVM a try if you have a group of friends who are down for it.
some info: yes the halloween update for each year is very important because its the only big update we get every year and there is mostly always some kind of new mode in the halloween update for example the 2 titans clashing mode, for the loot boxes, nobody ever opens them unless they are making a youtube unboxing, havent heard of the community store, love gambling or are mentally dumb

the best part about scouts double jump is it's canon and the explanation is they don't know how but they think he learned how to do it by running away from his like 12 older brothers
TF2's population is heavily warped due to the amount of bots in the game. When you take a look at Steamcharts, there's massive 30k population drop offs in a single hour that contradict the rest of the chart. And as someone who admins for a server, we're one of the top community servers during weekend nights in terms of conventional gameplay that isn't a skial server and that's absolutely surprising.
Dude I honestly wish I could take you through MvM stuff. Scream fortress has been a yearly thing for a while and the crate and key system stretches back before loot boxes were common place so it is interesting hearing about the monetization from a person who hasn't played tf2.

one thing i love about TF2, its simply hilarious, whether its the weapons, the character interactions, the item descriptions, the events, the comics, the promotional art for the now almost non-existent updates, the game is just funny i mean just look up TF2 domination lines and try not to laugh, especially anything coming out of the Soldier's mouth (R.I.P. Fun fact: The sniper rifle doesn't have a 25 round magazine, but the sniper is so skilled, he reloads them round by round faster than an automatic mechanisim
One of my bigest fears regarding tf2 is that a new player making basic mistakes (which is totally normal) will always be punished hard, and conclude the game is not for them. But seeing you unironically turtle as engeneer (which is the most basic and a bit unintresting yet somewhat effective way to play the good ol' texan), while still liking the class kind of warms my heart. It's so cool to actually see and hear new, who's opinion are valide and important to hear to assesse the logevity of the game. Really cool :)
Important note why you need keys to open crates. You can get money. You can sell items on steam and get cash. You opened crate for 2,56 and you had some. Maybe you git hat worth 5 bucks but lets say you had sick amount of luck and you got hat with unusual effect (that means hat is on fire, bats are flying around etc. ) And this hat is now worth not 5$ but 50$.
I still remember this one match I had in TF2. We were doing Payload and we were on Defense. The first match we blasted the enemy team and with the second one, had a 90 second prep time. We could have set things up, I could have charged up Uber, but no, the lot of us decided to instead, Conga the entire track to the entrance and only then did we start setting up. It was epic and I laughed so hard with that.
TF2 is the last of a game type where the community keeps it alive even if Valve never updates it. It's heavily moddable for game modes that don't exist, provides the means of creating custom weapon and so on. The last few games like TF2 were Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstine Multiplayer and Unreal Tournament and TF2 being a game that started off as a Mod on Quake alone shows it's refined age. FPs games especially hero shooters feel like they have an expiration date with a hard focus on FOMO and trying to be the next big E sports while TF2 at it's core was made for fun and enjoyment. Many other people in the comments already shared other aspects that contribute to it's longevity. TF2 isn't concerned with being competitive when you're literally punching an enemy with holiday themed gloves to force them to laugh while you prepare to finger gun taunt kill him only for a spy to get up behind you to backstab, proceeding to taunt over your body then gets headshot by a Gibus + Pyrovision Goggles new player who screeches over Voice chat "I GOT DA SPY!" all in that order. It's Fun.

The difference between being frozen by Mei and being set on fire by Pyro: In Overwatch you scream "Nooooo!" and bite into your desk. Dying like a tool... In TF2 you scream "Nooooohohohoho!" and laugh like a maniac while trying to run away. Dying happy!
I remember to play it as a young teen, I was getting addicted but got VAC, so I tried to play on community but since you can't change equip if u get VAC, it was pointless to keep playing so I unninstalled some years ago, but it was a good frustrating fun time to play, even as a solo player cuz I have no friends
TF2 as a community has managed to do the impossible, name another game where crouch walking with your fists up will make the enemy team be friendly with you, and the next minute you're dancing with them, then eating a sandwitch with an enemy heavy, it's like getting drunk without getting drunk irl
Regarding the crates and the keys, you don't need them. You can craft random cosmetics using metal. You get metal by smelting weapons that you don't want. You can also just get cosmetics as random drops, albeit rarely, from playing.
For this "random item finding" thing, it's usually called Random Drops. These can happen occasionally. When you get a random drop, you either get a weapon, a cosmetic, or a case. You can also get random drops in one of TF2's gamemodes, Mann vs. Machine (MVM). You can get random drops by paying for the gamemode (Mann Up) once the final wave has ended. You gain special loot, weapons, or ultra rare Australium Weapons, which are basically golden, pretty re-skins of a default weapon. Random drops CAN give you good weapons. However, if you're a madman and wanna burn down some money, you can buy some cosmetics in the Shop. Which cost real life money.
It's amazing to think about that TF2, a game that has been on life-support for multiple years now, still manages to beat other team-shooters that are in their prime. Really shows just how good Valve was at creating games with memorable characters and fun gameplay. But that just makes the current image of Valve all the more tragic. Once THE Game publisher everyone wanted to be, and now just a money-hungry husk of its former self.
Scream Fortress is technically not a major update, its a minor update that comes around every so often in October is all, plus Halloween cosmetics from it are able to be seen every full moon fun fact. Also TF2 is a game that can be lucrative depending on what you play. I only now am able to understand the crafting system after about 2 years of playing lol. Also the crates are a love-hate relationship given there are sometimes loot drops while playing that are a whole thing. Ultimately the crate keys have caused a whole market in TF2. Also the loot system also is the card system on Steam, you play long enough there is a chance to get a loot drop and its wholly random on what you get, crates, weapons, steam cards, etc.

This ancient game is filled with many deep rooted things, taking thousands of hours to even discover and understand. This game is a timeless masterpiece. What an impact it has made and is still somehow making. I’m really glad this video got so much attention. I’m coming up on 3000 hours and OH MY GOD how I’m not even close to being as good as I want to be. I believe mastery of the game is impossible. Not invented but definitely one of the first 3A games to popularized it, loot boxes and battle pass actually originated in Asian F2P MMO in early 2000s

personally, it's new perspectives like these that are the reason we shouldn't take F2P players for granted as they are the key to putting new blood into the community. so everyone in those servers who kept from toxicity and kicked the bots the second they came, my salutations go out to you for keeping a fresh perspective of the game positive. bravo.
Keys are never usually used for crates instead acting as a stable currency for trading because scrap metal and ear buds(old cosmetic item) can be a little bit unstable.
there are so many whacky things you can do in this game.
some of my favorites are:
trying to get in the weirdest places with rocket jumping or sentry jumping,
medic-chaining,
waiting with the cloak and dagger to always backstep the same guy,
exploring community maps,
set up sentries in the most random spots (preferably next to health kits),
troll with a medic-spy-combo (your friend as spy on the enemy team while you heal him),
and so much more, but mostly the stupid situations that emerge when interacting with people in this game

What's great about the mercs is that they have strengths and weaknesses that balance them out.
Scout: Fast, but low health and can die easily.
Soldier: primary is powerful, but not immediate like other mercs. The rockets take time to hit.
Pyro: strong up close, weak from far.
Demo: Like Soldier.
Heavy: lots of health, massive damage, but not great at range and slower than cement.
Enginer: Can build helpful buildings, but if the buildings are destroyed, there isn't much more he can do.
Medic: Great for helping, Not for damage.
Sniper: Great at ranges, but when aiming gets tunnel vision and not to great at close to medium range.
Spy: French, but French.
Each of the weaknesses can be countered by good playing of said character, but otherwise, they are extremely balanced.

I'm so glad you liked this game so much. It's been one of my favorites for years, it's nice to see someone new having a good time. The game do be dated in the settings department so if you ever play again I'd recommend looking up how to set up the advanced settings and changing your viewmodel fov, etc. I hope to see more TF2 content from you if you ever dive back into it. Maybe give MVM a try if you have a group of friends who are down for it.
yeah the settings menu was pretty barebones, but now i know of all the cool advanced stuff!
some info: yes the halloween update for each year is very important because its the only big update we get every year and there is mostly always some kind of new mode in the halloween update for example the 2 titans clashing mode, for the loot boxes, nobody ever opens them unless they are making a youtube unboxing, havent heard of the community store, love gambling or are mentally dumb

TF2's population is heavily warped due to the amount of bots in the game. When you take a look at Steamcharts, there's massive 30k population drop offs in a single hour that contradict the rest of the chart. And as someone who admins for a server, we're one of the top community servers during weekend nights in terms of conventional gameplay that isn't a skial server and that's absolutely surprising.
Dude I honestly wish I could take you through MvM stuff. Scream fortress has been a yearly thing for a while and the crate and key system stretches back before loot boxes were common place so it is interesting hearing about the monetization from a person who hasn't played tf2.

One of my bigest fears regarding tf2 is that a new player making basic mistakes (which is totally normal) will always be punished hard, and conclude the game is not for them. But seeing you unironically turtle as engeneer (which is the most basic and a bit unintresting yet somewhat effective way to play the good ol' texan), while still liking the class kind of warms my heart.

Important note why you need keys to open crates. You can get money. You can sell items on steam and get cash. You opened crate for 2,56 and you had some. Maybe you git hat worth 5 bucks but lets say you had sick amount of luck and you got hat with unusual effect (that means hat is on fire, bats are flying around etc. ) And this hat is now worth not 5$ but 50$.

I still remember this one match I had in TF2. We were doing Payload and we were on Defense. The first match we blasted the enemy team and with the second one, had a 90 second prep time. We could have set things up, I could have charged up Uber, but no, the lot of us decided to instead, Conga the entire track to the entrance and only then did we start setting up. It was epic and I laughed so hard with that.

TF2 is the last of a game type where the community keeps it alive even if Valve never updates it. It's heavily moddable for game modes that don't exist, provides the means of creating custom weapon and so on. The last few games like TF2 were Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstine Multiplayer and Unreal Tournament and TF2 being a game that started off as a Mod on Quake alone shows it's refined age.
FPs games especially hero shooters feel like they have an expiration date with a hard focus on FOMO and trying to be the next big E sports while TF2 at it's core was made for fun and enjoyment. Many other people in the comments already shared other aspects that contribute to it's longevity.
TF2 isn't concerned with being competitive when you're literally punching an enemy with holiday themed gloves to force them to laugh while you prepare to finger gun taunt kill him only for a spy to get up behind you to backstab, proceeding to taunt over your body then gets headshot by a Gibus + Pyrovision Goggles new player who screeches over Voice chat "I GOT DA SPY!" all in that order.
It's Fun.
About the boxes I just accepted the pain. It gets fun to share the pain with others that are in the same situation.

I remember to play it as a young teen, I was getting addicted but got VAC, so I tried to play on community but since you can't change equip if u get VAC, it was pointless to keep playing so I unninstalled some years ago, but it was a good frustrating fun time to play, even as a solo player cuz I have no friends
TF2 as a community has managed to do the impossible, name another game where crouch walking with your fists up will make the enemy team be friendly with you, and the next minute you're dancing with them, then eating a sandwitch with an enemy heavy, it's like getting drunk without getting drunk irl
Regarding the crates and the keys, you don't need them. You can craft random cosmetics using metal. You get metal by smelting weapons that you don't want. You can also just get cosmetics as random drops, albeit rarely, from playing.
For this "random item finding" thing, it's usually called Random Drops. These can happen occasionally. When you get a random drop, you either get a weapon, a cosmetic, or a case. You can also get random drops in one of TF2's gamemodes, Mann vs. Machine (MVM). You can get random drops by paying for the gamemode (Mann Up) once the final wave has ended. You gain special loot, weapons, or ultra rare Australium Weapons, which are basically golden, pretty re-skins of a default weapon. Random drops CAN give you good weapons. However, if you're a madman and wanna burn down some money, you can buy some cosmetics in the Shop. Which cost real life money.

It's amazing to think about that TF2, a game that has been on life-support for multiple years now, still manages to beat other team-shooters that are in their prime. Really shows just how good Valve was at creating games with memorable characters and fun gameplay. But that just makes the current image of Valve all the more tragic. Once THE Game publisher everyone wanted to be, and now just a money-hungry husk of its former self.

Scream Fortress is technically not a major update, its a minor update that comes around every so often in October is all, plus Halloween cosmetics from it are able to be seen every full moon fun fact.
Also TF2 is a game that can be lucrative depending on what you play. I only now am able to understand the crafting system after about 2 years of playing lol. Also the crates are a love-hate relationship given there are sometimes loot drops while playing that are a whole thing. Ultimately the crate keys have caused a whole market in TF2. Also the loot system also is the card system on Steam, you play long enough there is a chance to get a loot drop and its wholly random on what you get, crates, weapons, steam cards, etc.
Haven’t played in 4 years, I had over 1000 hours played. I’m glad to see this is still going.

the cases + keys as well as the contracts in the game are directly lifted from Valve's actual golden goose, CSGO. The update in which they were implemented was hilarious as the new meme was referring to TF2 as TFGO due to the blatant copy paste monetization strat.
