Thank you thank you thank you. Spent an hours trying to figure out why a relatively new Weslock deadbolt lock was stuck intermittently and was about to give up. Googled and watched your video. Applied graphite lube to the dead lock components, and now it's working smoothly. Thanks!
Thank you! You explained this very well! I feel confident that I can do this now. Also, thanks for saving me from trying to repair the broken latch (which popped out with a spring). I'm just going to replace the whole knob.
Is there terminology for when the latch will not close when it's a self closing door? Obviously the latch isn't stuck. It just sticks open causing the door not to close all the way. The latch moves normally though I have no problem turning the knob and opening and closing the door. What's that called? Maybe it has something to do with the way the door closes and not there being enough force to close the door. I have to pull very hard if I'm trying to close the door myself. It gets caught in the air a lot when it closes.
***** Hi, unfortunately, if the latch (if you're talking about the thing that sticks out of you door to lock it) fell out, there wouldn't be a good and logical method to try to put it back in, as it would fall out again, or cause latch failure which could be dangerous as it would trap you inside. The best way to fix this problem, it to either replace the latch, or to just replace the door knob. Hope this helps! :)
It's not a door that needs to stay closed most of the time, so we'll probably replace the entire door knob eventually -- but not right away. Thanks for confirming my suspicions about what could be done about this, though!

Great video! Thanks for your help.
The bottom one is still not functioning properly. You had to manually turn it to pop it back out.
Very well done.
nice description. thank you
The latch fell out of the door knob at the top of our basement stairs; how do we reinstall the latch & thus repair the door knob?
