I can't understand why audience members are not standing on their chairs and wildly applauding this incredible performance! Thank you so much for posting such an outstanding recording.
Like all of Ravel's music this wandered along many roads and avenues giving us little glances at the scenery along the way. Intriguingly performed here, but so very beautiful THANK YOU ALL.
Yearning for an unreachable past, countryside in childhood, memorable things that were gone so fast like dreams but even brighter and clearer though sandwiched by the hustling daily jazz-like rhythm of reality.
Ravel was a singular composer, without peer. He is truly modern and his influences carry over to many film composers through the millenium. No one else could exact the color and surprise from an orchestra as he was able. Gershwin came France to seek him out as his compositions reflect. Helene Grimaud understands his music like few other pianists. She makes it live and breathe as if it had new life. This performance is perfection.
You are absolutely right, bill ding. Few, if any, can give this piece the subtlety, touch and fire that Helene does. Can it be because both Helene and Ravel are French? Perhaps.
Absolutely wonderful, Helene!! And you looked so happy as you played all three movements. Thank you for the gift of yourself that you share so magnanimously!
Очень понравилось исполнение концерта органичностью и проникновенностью в характер исполняемого, прекрасным ансамблем с оркестром и целостностью исполнения!

I have never heard this Concerto before! However it is wonderful to hear it. Helene Grimaud is indeed awesome! Have listened to her playing other Concertos as well and she is extremely talented!
Stravinsky called Ravel "a Swiss watchmaker." I'm not sure what he meant by that but I always liked the appellation. Any time I hear Helene Grimaud play anything, Beethoven, Ravel, Brahms, it doesn't matter. Her playing makes me fall in love again.
Helene HAS to rank right up there in the top 5 pianists playing today. And she seems to get better as she gets older. I simply love her and her playing!!

WIF791, I agree completely. I just finished listening to Martha Argerich’s rendition of this piece. I found her 1st and 3rd movements played just a bit too fast for my liking. For me, her second movement lacked any personal feeling. Helene, on the other hand, played this 2nd movement with her heart and soul. And her 1st and 3rd are perfect in pace and feeling, and are played with the heart as well. Just look at her luminous face throughout the whole. She seems transpired by the music. Last comment…..way down the line of importance. Helene Grimaud is a beautiful woman and very easy to “look” at. Much better to listen to, though.

Claudio Parrella, if you were bored listening to that piece, the fault is not with the performers, but with you, it seems. Helene Grimaud was in top form throughout, but especially in the second movement. It was sublime!!

When she plays, she lives the moment to its fullest. Pure bliss to hear her play.
The adagio is one of the most gorgeous pieces in all piano literature... and Hélène's demeanor really helps sell it.
A perfect pairing of orchestra, conductor and performer for this exquisite composition. Ravel's adagio assai...transporting...
You can see from her face the bliss she experiences when she is playing the Adagio.
This is such a gorgeous performance. The second movement especially really comes from deep down

She is always pretty but she is luminous here.

Danke, Helene, einfach nur phantastisch - genial gekonnt !!

Martha Argarich, Pascal Roge and Vladimir Perlemutter are also wonderful interpreters of Ravel's music.
This is the best performance of this piece I've heard.
I totally agree! I thought after Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, never a player could have transmitted a similar emotion but...Mrs Grimaud...❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely wonderful, Helene!! And you looked so happy as you played all three movements. Thank you for the gift of yourself that you share so magnanimously!
She once said that she has a particular affection for Ravel.
This is a most attractive hair style for her.
I'm not so fun of modern concertos, but this one is exceptional, I have to listen to its entirety. Grimaud and Hengelbrock did a very good job.
BTW, anyone knows the name of that black instrument playing the first note?

She just feels the 2nd movement differently...I heard like 30 great pianists playing this and she owns it, like Martha owns Prokoviev piano concertos

Elle est jeune et belle ici jouant la musique de son compatriote.
Wonderful performance. Am I hearing things or did the flute player do something odd around 13:12?
Yes, he did an eighth note instead of a quarter note on the A# apex, thus ruining the entire moment. The beat was also off all along.
Off beat. Terrible.
