- Hi friends. I hope everyone is doing fine.
In this video I take you through a very important part of my daily practice routine. You can find my entire method I mention here only on my lessons site. www.pmlessons.philmaturano.com
These exercises based in African drumming will give your independence a huge boost but most importantly, your PHRASING will grow tremendously. Why? Because we are concentrating on the absorption and implementation of cyclic language into your playing. Cycles are the ABC's of drumming language and very surprisingly almost NO ONE talks about them. The exercises here being African in origen will help you establish a solid knowledge of cycles the way drummers have been doing for 1000's of years. Working with timeline structures and rhythmic melody. I have included the notation in the first half of the video and actual application example in a Jazz setting. If you have any questions please feel free to write me. All the best to you and enjoy
This is why Phil Maturano is one of the best instructors and baddest men on the planet !! His knowledge on this subject is so strong and he makes what can be incredibly complicated to figure out(yet beautiful at the same time) actually understandable. Love this video and just downloaded the new pdf on the website. Will start incorporating this into my practice routine TODAY ! Highly recommend joining his site. You will see things and learn to hear things you've never seen or heard before
Big hugs bratha Jim!
