    Anyone that's asking why they keep saying "you get me?" doesn't understand how things were back in the day. We weren't as comfortable in front of a camera as this new generation because weren't filming ourselves 24/7 on smartphones. Being recorded was like public speaking, you didn't know how you would come across, so that was nerves coming through.

    • @garyminion

      Yeah. That and plus it was just the regular MLE (multcultural London English) slang of the day. The slang of then (some of which is still strongly used today) took a lot from Jamaican Patois.
      Certain MLE slang died off such as "blud/blood", bredrin, sket, on a level, arms house, armsin, garms, aggy, hench, splurt, boog, buff, butters, borer, moot, nang, choong (moot, nang and choong being more spoken in East London during the early 2000s).
      MLE Slang that's still very much alive today in London include "zoot", "man dem", "ting", "bait"- among others.
      Please correct me or expand upon this.

      @@garyminionthanks for your comment - informative. Whether or not ppl still use slang terms from 2000s depends on their age and where they’re from, I’m from East/North East London - ppl still say Borer, bredrin definitely - alot of ppl say ‘bedrin’ smh, they’re even calling girls bredrins now 😂 it’s mad

    Can anyone comment on the mutual respect and close ties that Meridian Crew (Tottenham - N. London) had with Slew Dem (Leyton - E. London). The two crews have had numerous collabs together first starting Esco's full spray over Skepta's DTI in 2003.

    Does anyone agree with the below summary of Meridian Crew (grime) members:
    1. JME = the creative 'brain' of the crew. The front man and originator of the crew. Underneath it all jamie A. has always been about the passion of music and positivity even at times when he wasn't spittin positivity.
    2. Big H = the most aggressive spitter. Although to be fair he recycled his bars the most. He seemed more focused on road than in making it big in music. Music was just his side hussle for a bit of extra 'peas' money.
    3. Skepta = the DJ of the crew. The genius beat maker and respected and recognized in UK music to this day. Skeppy started off doing a lot of remixes of beats in the early days of Grime. Skepta and DJ Marsta were the two top DJs/beat makers of nearby crews representing Tottenham.
    4. President T = the most technical spitter of the crew, used heavy metaphors in his bars, legendary underground MC, road and Grime respected. Manchester's Darkside crew (underground radio UK Garage).
    5. Meridian Dan = very creative and would give listeners memorable punchlines. His lyrical content was less about Guns/shanks but more about Girls, Weed/zoots and living the best life. Dan and JME had the most commercial ability and they both share a toned-down side to Grime even to this day the two of them.
    6. Bossman Birdie = by far the most lyrically 'road' of the crew. You can tell Bossy was a bashment head as he spat with patois talk. His bars/lyrics he spitted were clever and hard hitting - Guns, shanks and "shottin work".

      Big H’s lyrics can be traced to so many MC’s it’s a joke, go check it out for real and see how many MC’s you can find with either a remixed H lyric or used his flow ! So that makes more substantial than you say 🙈

    Let’s have it right, these youngsters I watch grow up, know nothing about meridian walk, was born there in the 70s when the estate was built, loads of the older lot laugh at this, how things change……. Respect to junior and Jamie and family (who I know very well) you came when the new estate was built in the mid 90s, all the rest do not even live there.

    • @garyminion
      @garyminion 3 роки тому +3

      Ah ok cool. Skeepy, JME and Julia lived on the estate. I've got some questions.
      1. What about the others Meridian Dan, Boss Birdie, Trickster, Lieutenant? Did they live/grow up on this same estate/endz?
      2. From various online sources the brothers President T and Big H along with cousin Paper Pabs were Edmonton based, correct? Edmonton being very close by literally just up the road from Meridian via the linked Silver Street.
      3. Why would Meridian Dan aka Addy Dan inlcude 'meridian' as his regular performance name then?
      4. What about other non-Merdian Crew MC's who lived in this same part, namely Gemini and Benny Bizzle?
      5. Was Meridian as really 'hood' as other parts of Tottenham or Wood Green? What's your opinion on this
      ....btw I'm just a listener and have an interest in early Grime but mainly Tottenham Grime 2002-2005 era.

    • @garyminion
      @garyminion 3 роки тому +1

      Lol you're joking right? Sure H was hard but he wasn't the most technical and consistent and eventually lost that fire he once had when it came to the P Money situation.
      President T, Bossman and Dan were the three elite of the crew. Skepta was the master producer respected all over London for his D.T.I release and gunshot Riddim. When Skepta eventually picked up the Mic in 2005 then Skeppy became the number 1 MC of that crew at which by this time Meridian had started to broken up 2005-2006 >>>BBK/Roll Deep vs Bloodline

      Yep it was a Sunday morning in May 2004. Then the TV documentary came
      out the following year in 2005. CCTV on the estate baited certain man
      out. Nasty mess doing that to a carpenter like that, wrong behaviour. Apparently the carpenter pulled out a knife which escalated to the shooting.
      The documentary can be seen on UA-cam.

      Pirate radio died, arrival of UA-cam, people catching cases and going to jail, thugs badding up sound boys, a few unfortunate deaths (Esco big bars, Haystie), lack of money being made so many Mc's fade away and quit, but worst of all the rapid commercialization of Grime for a scene that was about the road life.
