- This is my last hike of my trip north to bag the most northerly
munros. Again this was another scorcher with temps into the 30`s
river crossing on this one was easy with the dry conditions over the last few weeks.
Unfortunately i went over on my ankle around 100mts shy of the summit. Took a lot longer to bag this one due to my ankle. Was thinking earlier about doing the 4 Eastern Fannichs the next day but with my ankle hurt i had to head home.
Hope you enjoy.
Of all the epic adventures you have had frank and you hurt your ankle on that wee lump 😮! Just shows you how easy it is to pick up an injury. Easy peasy ruver crossing en! Imagine if that happened and the ri er was full!
Cracking wee video again and some nice dronage! That initial section is very boggy! Imagine that in the winter! Brilliant mate and well done on the trip! Hooe the ankle heals soon! Paul
Cheers Paul, yeh and it was on the flattest section of the route.🤣🤣 just a wee rogue rock and that was it. With the long daylight hrs and straightforward terrain I just took my time to reach the summit and back down. Wouldn’t have fancied it on a tough winter climb. The river crossing was a doddle but had to be careful I didn’t slip in the water on the return journey. Yeh that 1st section towards the river was still quite boggy at times and defo wouldn’t fancy it after a wet spell.
I’ll be back strong again soon.👍
Missing those darn hills🤣🤣
Thanks again mate,
Hope we’re oot soon again,

I got a twinge in my foot Frank at 5.44 when u put that up.😱😱🦶It's always when u least expect it that injuries occur.Well done for getting up and back down safely.😃👏👏
I loved doing this mountain also in a dry patch so the going was good.Great views of all the big boys around it.
Hope ur ankle is on the mend.😃👍
Cheers Andy, how spooky is that. Yeh it was on the easiest part of the walk, luckily I wasn’t too far from the summit and I had plenty of time just to take it easy. Views were immense up there Andy and it’s defo a dry spell walk.
Went for an X-ray the following day at hospital and it showed soft tissue damage.
Haven’t been out on hills yet, maybe another couple weeks.🙏
Can walk ok but ankle is not hill fit just yet.
Cheers mate,

Frank.👍
Hey frank, wishing you a speedy recovery to get back up the hills for some more videos , i think the change in climate has made the river crossing easier, 🙂
Hi James, thanks for the comment👍 still a few weeks away from getting back amongst the hills.
Can walk ok, just not hill fit yet.
Yeh the drier weather certainly made the river crossing easier.👍
Thanks again,
ATB
Frank.
Stunning as always Frank. I did the same with my ankle when out on a hike a few weeks ago. So easy to do...hope the recovery has gone well. Looking forward to your next trip. Take care 👌
Thanks Euan, I’ve been close a few times before with my ankle and it is so easy to do. Thankfully it was pretty straightforward terrain on the way down. Should be fit for the hills again in a few weeks. How are you doing with your ankle Euan.?
ATB
Frank.👍
@@hikingwithfrank315 still feeling a bit fragile tbh. Just need to build some strength back in it. 👍
@@euansmith5885 yeh I’m feeling the same Euan.
Hi Frank, A good finish to a super few days in the far north. Pity about the ankle but hopefully your on the mend and won't have any lasting niggles. The weather is pretty unsettled now making it a bit hit or miss so your not missing much if your resting up. Another dry spell would be nice........ Cheers
Hi Charlie, yeh overall it was a great trip, great to get them done. Ankle has soft tissue damage, have t been out since and maybe another few weeks. Can walk ok just the ankle isn’t hill fit yet.
Yeh I don’t think I would have been out much anyway Charlie.
Thanks again Charlie,

Frank.👍
Nice one Frank definitely one for dry weather with the river crossings and cracking view’s similar weather to when I did it hope your ankle gets better I recommend a few bottles of red wine 🍷 to ease any swelling well that’s what I would do
Cheers Andrew, yeh I was waiting for a really dry spell for this one. It made sense to tackle this one as I made my way south from Ben Hope at the start of the trip. The crossing was easy peasy altho a bit more challenging with my ankle in return journey.
Ice on the ankle and a couple cold peronis helped when I got home.🍺🤣👍
Hopefully be able to get back out in a few weeks👍🙏🏔
Thanks again Andrew,

Frank.👍
That is some super hiking territory! Yikes with the ankle...sure doesn't make for pleasant hiking. Pretty beautiful all around...and the views...spectacular! Hope you got some ice on that ankle and all is doing better. Take care and have a great week. Bruce and Otis
Hi Bruce & Otis, yeh bummer about the ankle, prob had my eye off the ball for a moment when it happened. Views were tremendous and was basically a nice easy hike till it happened.
Yeh ice on it when I got home then up to hospital next day for an X-ray. Soft tissue damaged and hopefully I’m fit for the hills in a few weeks.🙏🏔🥾

Sorry about the ancle roll Frank I feel your pain bud... my ankles really are my nemesis over the years I've had some horrible rolls most where on easy ground and it was happening about 4-5 times a year...last was up a Mountain about 18 months ago near the Summit of St Sunday Crag about 700 meters up had a 6 mile walk off down steep hard ground it was horrific... grade 3 foot turned complete black and seen me off the high Mountains for about 3 months full recovery took about 9 months...confidence absolutely shattered! I'd never used walking poles in 20 years so got myself two and some new boots (Scarpa Rangers) what a difference them poles have made to my walking no smashed ancles since that last one (touch wood)
As always great video mate Fantastic Mountains in this mini series...well done buddy 😊 👍🏻🍻
ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐
Cheers Andy, yeh when you think about what your ankles have to deal with everytime we set off in a hike with all the differing terrain it’s no wonder we take a hit now and again. Sounds like you’ve had a few nasty ones tho, and your right Andy, it’s getting back off the mountain when that happens, I was lucky the terrain was fairly straightforward till the river crossing where I had to almost jump to a few of the rocks.wasn’t too bad the crossing .Wouldn’t go on a hike without my trekking poles as I don’t know how many times they have saved me, great bit of kit.
I can see why that long lay-off shattered your confidence, I damaged my left Achilles on Ben Lomond a few years ago and was out for 5 months. Went thru all types of rehabilitation treatment and I was on a real downer thinking I wouldn’t get back on the hills again.
Glad you haven’t had an incindent since your boots & poles Andy🤞👍
Soft tissue damage to my ankle, so hopefully in a couple weeks I’m back out🙏👍
Oh and yes it was a lovely 4 day trip I had.🏔🤣🤣👍

I used to lamb ewes near there. It was my first job after leaving the school. The crofters and other folk round about were the best people you could hope to meet 👍🏴 it’s sad that the education act of Parliament made Gaelic illegal, so we can’t even pronounce our own place names of our forefathers 😢
Thanks again for the watch.👍 what a lovely area to have your 1st job such a close knit community with the crofters I’ll bet.
Yeh I’m terrible with the Gaelic pronunciation of our beautiful mountains.
I must try harder.

Wow the river is low.. I did it end of April and it was easy enough . Very easy munro , reminded me of the Ochil hills .. Thought you had done all the Fannichs.. Watched your west Fannich vid a while ago..
I know from your previous chats that your better now 👍
Hi, yeh I knew the river would be absolutely fine for crossing after weeks of dry weather. So I thought I’d do that while up in that area. No I’ve just done the 5 western ones, but will get those 4 done at some point this year. Have you finished the Fannichs.?
I haven’t been out since this hike, altho my ankle is a lot better it’s still not hill fit. Hopefully in a couple weeks it’ll be ready, weathers pretty shit just now anyways.

Another good video Frank, shame about the ankle but you soldiered on and got the munro done, well done. Easily done though, I went over last time I was up, stepped on a wet rock and next thing I was on my back 🤣. Hope it gets better soon. ATB Andy
Cheers Andy, yeh I wasn’t too far away when it happened and plenty of daylight so I had to carry on to the summit. Yeh it’s so easily done Andy, got to watch your footing like a hawk.

The dry weather certainly helped with the bog and the river crossing 👍 top notch drone footage as per and the music complimented it perfectly 👌 well done for soldiering on with a gammy ankle bud 🦶 atb Brian 👍
Cheer Brian, yeh these were ideal conditions to get this one done, a real easy hike until my ankle injury. I was too close to the summit so I limped on just taking my time, knew it would be a long slog back and the crossing back over the river wasn’t too bad.
Thanks again Brian,

Love your videos always good, was on the wee buckle just after you dropped your camera, still amazed you went after it that took some bottle, respect, next time im up on the munro’s if your about will have a drink with you
Cheers Carl, glad your enjoying the videos. Yeh we just had to take our time going down, was a bit scary at times. I keep telling Hen Broon he needs to get an ice axe. I’ll have a peroni Carl🍺🤣👍

Great Frank. Good tactical choice hitting this one after that dry spell to round off the trip. Bummer about the twisted ankle though.
Cheers Andy, as you know these things can happen easily up in the mountains, just glad it wasn’t too technical on the way down.
River crossing and bog was fine.
Great views from the summit.

Well done on completing it Frank especially after hurting your ankle and doing the few days before really good going . i was going to do it last Sunday when i was up there but the weather wasn't to be the best so just went home on the Saturday. ATB Ally👍
Thanks Ally, it was a tough but enjoyable 4 days up north, was going to do the 4 eastern Fannichs on the fri but the combination of heat, midges then my ankle injury put that to bed.
Will get them soon enough.

Just goes to show Frank that it's not just the miserable weather that can test your fortitude.
Everywhere needed a bit of moisture by the time of this vlog was filmed but this is beyond a joke now⛈️😢
Definitely Alistair, least I’m not missing much while I rest my ankle.

Superb vid mate, unlucky with the ankle as you were on a roll.
Cheers John, it was a hard 4 days with the heat & Midges🤣🤣 glad to get them done as they were all good hikes.
Bummer about my ankle, but almost back to 100%👍
Cheers again mate
Frank.
Finally heading hame eh. 😉 Another fine day Frank. Apart fae that heat. Sore one aboot the ankle. So easily done. Bet that cold water felt guid oan it
Cheers kev, that was a hard 4 days in those temps. Yeh so easily done, I’ve had good few near misses on my ankles over the years. The water felt great, but not as good as the cold peronis when I got home.🍺🤣👍

Brilliant video Frank😍👍..It’s so beautiful up there ❤️⛰..Great drone footage of the mountain and the river..Perfect time of year to do that hill as the river be a nightmare in spate…Glad you managed to get down ok with your twisted ankle..That looked a bit of a nightmare..Superb Vlog ..Love your chat and humour.
Cheers
Robert
Cheers Robert, it’s a lovely part of Scotland and the views were great all round, went over on my ankle on one of the easiest munros I’ve done🤣🤣 couldn’t turn back at that point as I was too close to the summit. Was wondering how the Rick hopping would be on return journey at the river but fortunately it was ok.
Was glad to get back to the car for a nice latte☕️🤣

Well done on a fantastic bunch of hills Frank, pity about yer ankle...awrabest😊
Cheers Roy, I enjoyed them all, even that Am whatever🤣🤣🤣
@@hikingwithfrank315 🤣🤣🤣🤪
How annoying twisting your ankle. When you think of all the rocky terrain you covered up in Assynt. At least the route wasn’t too demanding and the river played ball. Given you had already decided to give the four Fannichs a miss this time round things could have been a lot worse. Wow views and a great video.
Thanks Charles, your absolutely correct, it was a very easy stretch of the plateau with maybe my eye off the ball, whereas on rockier ones it’s full concentration. If it was a harder ascent when it happened I might have turned back when it happened. Was a bit worried about rock hopping back across the river but that was fine.
Thanks again Charles,
ATB
Frank.👍
I guess it’s a classic when you least expect it. Hopefully not too serious or long lasting. I’d have been interested, had you done the four eastern Fannichs what the state of the big would have been like between the finish and the most eastern. When I did it in May it was over the top of my boots in places but that section you did towards the river looked pretty good so perhaps the Fannich’s side would also have dried out a lot.
@@charlesrobert9527hi Charles, I would guess it would have been pretty well dried out as it had been dry and really hot up there for a few weeks. I could see the one I did being a bogfest in the rain. Hopefully back up to finish the Fannichs soon, that doesn’t sound to good about the bog from the last fannich.
It was soft tissue damage to my ankle, much better now and hopefully back on the hills in a few weeks Charles 🙏🏔🥾
When we did that hill on April there was snow on the very tops of the Munros , and we could see every Munro north with the snow on tops , Ben Hope was visible with the snow, I take it, it was to hazy to see it ?
That would have been a lovely view, I love it when there’s a dusting of snow on the mountains.🏔 I could just about make out some of the Assynt hills only just but not Ben Hope.
What’s your first name btw.?

Cheers Tam, just having one as I write this☕️🤣. Was a great steady hike with an easy river crossing until the ankle went over. Just carried on as I was so close to the summit. wasn’t looking forward to the crossing at the river again but was actually ok. Hopefully oot again in a couple weeks.🙏
