    The dragon sense is because Vex is a ranger. It's how they portray the "favored enemy" ability that gives you a pretty substantial bonus to tracking whatever your enemy is. Hers is dragons, so they made it so that she can just sense their presence in the show.

      Yeah, we never thought of that. Its really cool how they worked that into the show. Going to keep an eye out for things like that now. Neither of us have much experience with D&D so thanks for pointing out things like that!:)

    Keyleth freaked out mid-battle because dragons have a fear aura and she failed her save basically.

      That is going to be really fun to work out for. I've(Majik) have seen this season before, but do not have much D&D knowledge. So going over the show another time trying to figure out what is going on behind the scene will bring another layer for me.

      I feel like it was also a reference to how her player Marissa often forgot her spells as a lighthearted joke, because I recall a lot of people got REALLY pissed at Marissa for just struggling to rememebr her spells perfectly, which there’s a lot to remember.

    This will be fun! Keep it up! Vex’s headache is her “favored enemy” ability as a ranger. Her favored enemy are dragons.
    The short ones are gnomes (Scanlan, Pike), the twins and Keyleth are half-elves. Percy is human and Grog is a half-giant.

    The ball bag idea was brilliant! But yeah, there's usually an agreement between everyone from the start about what is or isn't appropriate for the group: like whether to include horror, gross stuff, spiders, sex detail, potentially triggering stuff like SA or child endangerment, etc. When a new person joins they might not be aware of this so it's important to listen to the DM who is trying to be inclusive and open but may also be looking after the rest of the group's sensibilities.
    I guess it's the same everywhere: communicate and listen.

    Bidet! Prepare for the Critter hug... We love to bring new people into the fold. It looks like you've got the rundown on the kickstarter and characters in the comments. So I'll just add that D&D dragon breath weapons and moral alignment are based on the color of the dragon. So chromatic dragons (think color wheel) are evil. Not talking show here, so no spoilers, just general D&D stuff. Dragons are intelligent so, regardless of alignment, can be reasoned or bargained with if you figure out what will serve their interests. In the show, this one is a blue dragon so evil with lightning breath, white = cold, green = poison, black = acid, red = fire. Good aligned dragons are metallic (gold and brass = fire, bronze = lightning, silver = cold, copper = acid). In D&D, more recently, there are also gem dragons that are kind of neutral in nature, neither good nor evil (crystal = radiant, sapphire = thunder, topaz = necrotic, amethyst = concussive force, emerald = psychic). There is also an amber dragon, which is not really a gem and more of a lesser, nature boi with scalding sap breath, hence the name amber bc that's just hardened tree sap not really a gem. Anywayyyyy... There are other niche dragons like amber in D&D, but even listing out gem dragons is probably too much info. Nerd! Most of what you see in classic D&D will be chromatic and metallic.

    Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could.
    Welcome to the world of Critters.
    Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) offered to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2.
    Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are up to 120 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place."
    The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it.
    A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen.
    During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving mostly non spoiler info about the production. The one spoiler to watch out for is in the video 'The Legend of the Cast of the Legend of Vox Machina', and only since not every character is introduced at the very beginning of the show, but you are safe once you have crossed oh... say, the halfway point. The collection is a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast, the people who created these characters and this amazing story. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list, FYI best to watch after season one. (P.S. Critters like me will watch you react to it.)

    The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time.
    The latest, latest news, Critical Role now has their own streaming service called Beacon. They in no way limited the access people had through the other streaming sites but do offer some exclusive content on Beacon. I signed up right away as it is a very reasonable cost. Critical Role gives me more joy in a month than my weekly treasured latte, so I figured they deserve direct support from me for about the same price once a month.
    Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!

      Absolutely excellent comment. Just a couple quick edits for you (don't hate me hahaha 😬🤣):
      - Their original goal was 750k and raised over 1 million in the first hour, a kickstarter record.
      - They raised enough for 10 episodes and then Amazon added another 2 for season 1 as well as the second season.
      - Season 4 of Vox Machina has officially been green-lit (and San Riegel has stated that their hope for Vox Machina is at least 5 seasons).
      That's all lol

    So that was actually Grog's hand - the severed one was in their bag of holding lol. There are specific markings that give it away.
    If you have any trouble with knowing which twin is which, heres an easy way to remember: just think of Adam and Eve.
    Vax = A = Adam (male)
    Vex = E = Eve (female)
    Their full names are also Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia if that adds to the assistance with remembering 👍🏻

      Really?! We figured that it was the dead mans hand since the dragon sniffed it and left? But that's cool that the show is so detail oriented that you can pick that out.
      Oh the Adam and Eve comparison there should be helpful for us, thank you.

    I would argue if the DM invited you to "give suggestions" to the Party and you did, in fact, "give suggestions" to the Party, and said Party took your "suggestions" and acted up on them, and the DM is mad because of it, that DM has nobody but themselves to blame. Neither you nor the Party did anything wrong. D&D is collaborative storytelling. It's about the DM and the Players working together to tell a story. There is no collaboration if the DM can't handle the Players immediately walking off the road laid before them by said DM.
    I would also argue that it is the DM's job to set any expectations they may have in, what is called, a Session Zero which is a Game Session that takes place before the Game even begins so players can create characters and the DM and Players can lay out expectations for the Game to make sure the DM and Players are actually compatible. It sounds to me like this DM didn't facilitate a Session Zero because, obviously, their expectations and the Players' expectations were quite different.
    And, lastly, if the DM did not set expectations with you, the invited guest, again, that's on them. If I'm invited to throw out suggestions to the Party and I'm given no expectations or limitations, my assumption is that I have Full Player Agency exactly like the Party does and all bets are off. I'll suggest any stupid, wild, thing that crosses my mind and then it's on the Players whether they agree or not and it, then, becomes the DM's job to roll with it and improvise. Basically, my philosophy is, "DM, if you don't set expectations and limitations before we begin, I'm gonna do as I please and you have to deal with the consequences. If you wanna talk, I'll listen. If Not, Good Luck."

    • @WeMissed
      @WeMissed  11 днів тому +2

      The DM saw this video and called me to tell me they were not mad and it wasn't that i was not invited back they just haven't had a game due to everyone just being to busy to play, so maybe i was just worried to must when i never got a call to come back. Also the DM was cool with me putting my two cents in, i think it was just a bit of a curve ball with me tossing in all the random stuff lol. ... but everything is good now.

      @izzyliberty8720 11 днів тому

      @@WeMissed Call Lightning is a 3rd level spell, accessible to a full, single-class caster at 5th level. This story takes time at some point before the campaign was streamed, so we can't be sure what level they'd be exactly - they start the streamed campaign at level 9; the first story in the show that was also streamed starts in a few episodes and in-campaign they're mostly level 11, almost 12 at that point.
