I grew up in backwoods Indiana and we frequently had to move snapping turtles that wandered into our yard. Some of them were SO big, big enough that my mom had to shimmy them into a wheelbarrow to move them! So I believe that that beast very well could have been real!!
I'm pretty sure if turtles are left alone they just keep getting bigger and bigger. maybe idk. I could see it being possible too.
Backwoods Wisconsin much of the same my grandpa told stories of snappers getting as big as a kitchen table. I myself have caught one that was 22" in diameter

Pope is a type of fish, also known as a ruffe. Lick is a term for a small body of water, smaller than a stream. The creature is from Pope Lick Creek.
A lick is not a stream, it is a natural occurrence of salt. Animals tend to congregate around them because salt is an important mineral for many of them. The road that I live on has a few and there are large rafters of turkeys near them.
@@emilypresleysee That's a mineral lick. I was referring to the type wikipedia defines as "A lick is a small watercourse or an ephemeral stream. It ranks hydrologically between a rill and a stream." I think this one applies here.
FYI Kentucky also has Big Bone Lick State Park. Every time I drive through, I take a picture of the gigantic sign, post it to social media, and then giggle like I'm 12. Good job KY!! Now, I'm thinking of KY Jelly.

Beast of Busco is Churubusco, IN which is also referred to as Turtle Town USA. I live 20 min from there, crazy that they’re talking about it on the show😅

Indiana resident checking in. We had another giant turtle rumor around Lake Monroe recently. The memes were hilarious. There's something in the water here, boys. We grow them turtles big.
I’m from northern Indiana and we would frequently drive through Churabusco to get to Fort Wayne and never knew until I was in my 20s that it was because of the “beast” that the entire town was turtle themed. The turtles all over the place are much cuter than the one supposedly found though lol
I'm from Fort Wayne and frequently go to Churubusco for stuff and I know exactly what you're talking about. All the cute little turtle statues and stuff. They really make Oscar look tame compared the the "beast" description lol

When I was a kid, I believed that there were gigantic catfish as big as Volkswagen beetles living at the bottom of the Illinois River. Someone told me they were so large that they couldn't swim. Just rested on the river floor and opened their mouths to catch whatever swam by. 😅
