This arrangement combines fingerpicking and strumming to authentically recreate the iconic melody. This song begins and ends with the melody fingerpicked, while the midsection is entirely strummed.
This strumming section will be a great challenge because it uses movement; which means, you’ll be playing throughout the entire span of the neck (frets 0-12). Movement makes the piece sound like it’s flowing and developing; similar to if we were telling a story (i.e. there is a beginning, middle, and end).

If anybody is having trouble finding the pattern in the strum, it is as below:
dum : Down strum
chi : Ghost strum
ki : Up strum
dum chi-ki chi-ki dum chi-ki dum
Matt, you're an amazing musician and the best music teacher! Thank you for all you do!
THIS IS SO AWESOME!!! I HAVE TO LEARN THIS!!!
great tutorial! for the strumming part it would be very helpful to have sth written next to the video to understand the pattern easier ;)
Great suggestion! This video is a few years old and quite a few folks asked for that so we've been adding the arrow markers for the last couple years 😊
The Fingerpicking comes pretty straightforward but that ghost note strumming part really is something. New rhythms are always kind of hard for me but it sounds way too dope to sleep on it, challenge accepted :)
Omg your so talented!!
absolutely incredible! Top marks fella
Hi!
Have a nice day! Thank you for the great music!
You are amazing!!!!! Great arrangement and you're a great teacher!! Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. I usually learn all of my guitar and ukelele lessons from tabs alone. Ive never had an actual teacher!
Happy to help!
A wonderful tutorial! Thank you!
Magic on the uke
Harikasın bro harikasın harika harika harika
Molto bello!!!
Спасибо большое за урок!!!!!!!
Great video!! Btw can you do "Silent Hill - Promise" ? It's also done by a Russian guy Максим and it sounds wonderful but it's just a cover, not a tutorial.
Please add it to our request list: rockclass101.com/forums/topic/song-suggestions/
Wow
Matt I am in.
Such a great tutorial, thanks a lot! ❤ A dream coming true :), even if will take me some time to get it down. Love your channel!!
.
PS: did not fully what the rhythm slide was trying to show, can you do a separate tutorial for that beautiful strumming pattern with ghosts with stickers reminders? :) And explain how to read the rhythm slides in the upper right corner. Also it would be helpful to have the corresponding chord schemes & chord progression on the screen during all the video (it helps memorizing & anticipating what comes (a beginner here, usually beginners bring more views because they need to watch the video a few times to learn it all ))

I wanted to learn ukulele because I thought it was an affordable instrument but having to pay premium memberships for tabs and other lessons simply isn't within my budget when I can barely afford my rent. It's so disappointing to find something I'd like to learn and then have to give up on it after finding out I can't afford the lessons.
Hi Vii, many of our songs, including this one, are taught in their entirety for free in the UA-cam video 😊
You can also check out this page: rockclass101.com/freelessoncategories/
There’s around 75 completely free lessons there covering technique, music theory, fundamental playing advice, and complete songs.
How much Bpm?
Around 105.

I want the tabs where can I download them??
Hi Michelle, the tab is available with premium membership at: rockclass101.com/house-of-the-rising-sun/.
There are 4 free premium lessons at the top of this page: rockclass101.com/free-lessons/. They include tabs and the really cool interactive tab player. That will give you an idea of what to expect with premium membership :)
If I do a down strum then quickly flip the ukulele upside down and then strum G to A again, would I have performed 2 downs without an up? < insert forehead pointing guy thinking meme here >
LOL
Taking timestamps for myself...
