As a former martial arts practioner i can appreciate the martial arts aspects of this performance, and i do believe that it gives another artistic aspect to these kind of performances, and that it provides some variation to the show, than "just" the drumming part of it. And it certainly has it´s place within this kind of entertainment. Another vibe i also get from this video, is that it seems like, that the focus is more orientated towards the performers than towards the drumming. As in "see me", rather than, "feel the drumming". However that being said, to my personal preference i would favour more drumming, and less "dancing"/show-martial arts movements with the staff and sticks, which to me, seemed of mediocre quality, although the cube performance was quite outstanding. Now i can of course only speak out from, what i have seen from this video, and there may have been put more emphasis on the martial arts like, kind of artistic performance from their show, into this particular video, than from what their entire show contains/includes. It´s of course an subjective matter of opinion and personal preference from person to person. And so, one of my greatest experiences with any live performance, was actually experiencing two Kodo/Taiko drumming performances at the world scandinavian martial arts festival about 25 years ago, which was held in Denmark. It was quite specatular, it was all about the drumming, and it felt like that the whole audience of the hall, was much more entertained/exited from the Kodo/Taiko drumming than from the martial arts itself.
