Love it! One of my favorite Elvis songs! Also get a kick out of seeing Scotty Moore, D. J. Fontana, and Bill Black performing in the movie with EP. They are legends in and of themselves. Long live the King!
Was thinking same thing! Also, in the studio Bill Black threw the bass down - he couldn't play the line on this song b/c he was using an electric bass and wasn't used to it and it was too difficult. Elvis picked it up and played it all the way through for the recording. That made Bill immediately commit himself to getting good on electric bass.
I'm so damn old I was already a confirmed Elvis fan when this came out. He was my first pop idol. But not even I could have imagined that that early rock and roll voice would develop? ... blossom? into the magnificent, majestic instrument that is ELVIS! "He plays somethin' evil Tnen he plays somethin' sweet. No matter how he plays You gotta get up on your feet." No one before, no one since, and most likely, no one ever will even approach his epic talent and brilliant showmanship. But in the unlikely event that anyone ever does, just remember this: ELVIS WAS FIRST!
"I don't know why my heart flips, I only know it does; I wonder why I love you baby, I guess it's just because...you're so square...baby I don't care" lol, what a great lyric. Timeless; this song still jams all these years later..../sigh
The track was recorded previously with Elvis on electric bass. Bill Black couldn't get used to the feel of the Fender electric and so Elvis has to lay it down. Vocals were recorded later.
OMG .I was born in 1974, I'm 36, grew up listening to Metallica ,guns n roses, and Run DMC...not exactly a "Elvis friendly " era...and this man drives me nuts! He is sooooo freakin hot! NO GENERATION COULD THINK THAT *ELVIS PRESLEY* IS NOT THE BEST- COOLEST- FREAKIN ENTERTAINER THAT EVER LIVED! no not Michael Jackson - he's. Maybe number 2...Sinatra ? Maybe #3..little Richard ? JERRY lee lewis? Ray charles? All legends.but ELVIS PRESLEY? undeniable #1 !
You left off v Mercury, no one could touch him either. Elvis was a huge inspiration to Freddie. The King of Rock n Roll will never die, his music lives on forever! Elvis inspired every rock n roll artist out there, I thank god he was a ground breaking artist.
Elvis is said to have played the Fender Precision bass on this cut. Bill Black was trying to switch from standup and was having trouble but Elvis could play it no sweat so they had him do it. The reason everyone looks so dead was that people in high places were afraid of the reaction if girls were dancing with abandon in their bikinis. You see that in a lot of old rocknroll clips--the audience stock still to avoid controversy.

The story-Elvis always liked recording live with the band. This track the band was recorded without him and he didn't want to sing to the track but he did because RCA wanted it done for the movie and as an RCA release. Elvis said on tape that they'd never use the vocal but they did. That is the recording that you hear today!
MJ had great songs but he was not a great vocalist. His brother Jermaine, I think sounded better but Michael had a powerful magic that well just look back. He stole the show and was a great entertainer.

Didn't he record his bass part with the band?
THE BOSS
@TheThomasmoon buddy had many songs, came out before elvis but dont forget, everyone from the 50's was king, thats my own wrds :)
@elvisandgladys Thank you, and yes it did! (I should have known, but I really and truly didn't...)
Parker wasn't a citizen if elvis toured outside the U. S. parker would have been leaving and not coming back. ALOHA FROM HAWAII...
@elvispresleyfan100,
Thanks for comment.
Before Michael Jackson could dance and sing, there was Elvis.
M.J. couldnt really sing could he ? Not like this .
MJ had great songs but he was not a great vocalist. His brother Jermaine, I think sounded better but Michael had a powerful magic that well just look back. He stole the show and was a great entertainer.
@@mariahenderson9425 - Nope you're wrong. Elvis stole the style and voice of Roy Hamilton. Also Elvis didn't write music and couldn't dance.
@@eltonjimenez1616Sonoma huh?
Just like I wrote above.
Thanks for sharing this way2wacky This is a new Elvis song to me, which movie is it from? 5*

@O c t o p e n e l o p e Didn't know that!
This used to happen a lot at pool parties back then.
my god i would swoon! And im a hetro, middle aged guy! If so you are one lucky person-:)

Babes by the pool drooling over Elvis. Too bad he didn't die when he hit 35.
@Kirke182 Indeed! The audience was more frozen-in-place than people at certain churches...
@elvisandgladys What move IS this from? I've seen the clip many times on TV, but I've never seen the movie it came from...
Jail house rock.
@@christinebmorel5853 Ah, thanks!
You're so square by Joni Mitchell
quién más aquí por el Magic Tour de Queen?
Elvis never molested little boys, you have to give him credit for that
They colorized Jailhouse Rock?
I have never seen anyone that could touch elvis Presley's dance performance
@trockout Yeah...but they weren't exactly overpaid. Not Elvis' fault, but well the Colonel wasn't exactly Santa Claus. They got scale, I think.
Michael Jackson isn't at the same level as Elvis. Never will be. That's a fact. Ask any cat in the music biz.
He copied a lot of his dances moves from elvis
four people are so square. baby i don't care.
First there was Elvis and The Beatles.
Now we have Justin Bieber and One Erection.
Life is not fair :(
Long live the king Rip.
